I think 3D HD TV will never become accepted as long as viewing would require special glasses. I am waiting for "whole room" holographic projectors, much like the displays we see employed at Universal Studios and Disney World. Do you remember Cinemascope, Vista-Vision, ToddAO, Cinerama? All of these forms pursued the the 3rd dimension, but the confining borders of the proscenium limit the effect. What do you gain by looking into a framed diorama? Not too much difference. We need to enter the scene ourselves.
It's already here……my family owns an electronics store. We have 3D HD on demo as we speak.
It does need 3D glasses though, so I'm not sure how well it's going to catch on.
Too much technology for me to handle….
Long way off in the future.

No thanks! 3D sucks in movie theaters, so why would I want it in my house??
