We’ll take their homeless if they take The Hills cast?????
Homeless service providers in Hawaii are asking the state for money to send homeless back to the Mainland.
There are already similar programs established on the Mainland which try to return homeless folk from where they came from. Apparently, a lot of people go to Hawaii seeking a new and better life but find that it can be quite expensive to sustain one’s self on the islands. And then they’re stuck.
Opponents of the proposal criticize the “return home” program as a ploy to simply ship the homeless somewhere else instead of dealing with the problem. Proponents praise the program as a strategy to help ease state expenses in the current economic crunch.
The program would actually be aimed at people who have recently arrived in Hawaii to find themselves unable to support themselves or save up for a ticket, which is actually a very small percentage of the homeless population.
The program would also make sure there are services waiting for the person on the Mainland, instead of just dumping them there, and that no one would be coerced into leaving.
