Bong-hitter Michael Phelps has been dropped by a major sponsor in light of his pot-smoking controversy!
Cereal maker Kellogs says they are not renewing the swimmer's contract when it expires at the end of this month.
In a statement on Thursday night, they say:
"We originally built the relationship with Michael, as well as the other Olympic athletes, to support our association with the U.S. Olympic team. Michael's most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg. His contract expires at the end of February and we have made a decision not to extend his contract."
Thankfully for him, Phelps has a bunch of other advertisers - paying him tens of millions of dollars - who are all standing by him.
Will they for much longer?

His biggest sponsors, Speedo, Omega, etc. have all said the whole thing is a non-issue, and as for the U.S. Swimming "sanctions," they will not affect either his training or his competitive schedule this year. So much for a suspension; it's got no teeth.

Oh well, life goes on. People make small mistakes sometimes… he got caught, he realized what he was doing was wrong, apologized and he said would stop. Second, yes, I have made mistakes, but I don't whore myself out to Kelloggs, Speedo, and every other brand name out there so that I can get rich off my image. Phelps' image that these companies pay for includes the wholesome, clean cut All-American boy, not the pot smoker. Whatever you may think about smoking pot, it is against the law, and why should Kelloggs use a lawbreaker to promote its products? The bottom line is that this dummy already majorly fucked up with his DUI a few years ago, and everyone was willing to give him a second chance because he was so young.
