Kate Winslet's Lucky Number 7?

Not a sore loser by any means, Oscar nominated Kate Winslet is keeping her fingers crossed that 2009 will be her year.
The Susan Lucci of the Oscars, Kate has been up for the award six different times, and she's hoping her performance as Nazi prison guard Hannah Schmitz in The Reader will win her the prize.
If not, she will be the most nominated loser in the awards show's history.
Winslet explains, "I mean, it is hard to lose, actually. … But having been through it the times that I have done, I have known that I wasn't going to win on those occasions … you can sort of feel it. You have a radar for it. But this year I would say I can't actually tell… I'm tremendously lucky that in my life, I have received these nominations and got to play these extraordinary parts."

Kate however should win because she has been nominated so many times now. Anne has a long career ahead of her and she is a great actress, she is like Katherine Hepburn or Judy Garland, she'll be around for a while and will have her turn

I really hope she wins and I think she will. But you are incorrect in her number of nominations. Her role in "The Reader" is her 6th nomination, not her 7th. Sense & Sensability, Titanic, Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Little Children and now The Reader. If she loses, she will tie Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter with the most nominations with no wins……but she won't, SHE WILL WIN!!!!!!!!!!!
If I am not mistaken this is only Kate Winslet's sixth nomination, not seventh. If she loses she will join Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter as six time nominees with no wins. Even if she loses she will not be as much of a loser as Richard Burton (7 nominations, no wins) or Peter O'Toole (8 nominations, no wins, one "honorary" Oscar).

I'm pulling for ole' Kate this year. I hope she will win the Oscar and have her moment in the sun. But you never know…The old bitches choosing the awards could pull a fast one and give it to Meryl instead, just to fuck with everyone. Look at the Grammys when they gave the Best Album award to Herbie Handcock for a covers album. Experience is always a "good" reason to trumph brilliant work.

She absolutely should win this time. She was absolutely brilliant in the Reader. Plus, she actually should have won for her fantastic performance in Eternal Sunshine. This is Kate's year, she will win the lead actress Oscar.

I HAVENT SEEN THE MOVIE BUT I HAVE READ THE BOOK. PORTRAYING HANNAH SMIDTH WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT AND THERE WERE RAVE REVIEWS ABOUT HER PERFORMANCE. SO HATS OFF TO HER! MERYL MIGHT BE A THREAT BUT IF SHE PORTRAYED HANNAH JUST AS IN THE BOOK THEN WOW! SHE WILL GET IT.
She is one of my absolute favorite women in Hollywood, and I hope she gets it.

This IS Kates year!! It has to be! Not just because she has been looked over so many times for awards she definitely deserved, but because The Reader is by far the best performance of the year!! Top 2 of my favorite movies of all time! Beautiful, Classy, Elegant, Brilliant, Humble, Real, and by far the best, and only actor/actress together of our generation!
Meryl wins all of the time. I mean shes a great actress and everything but so is Kate. I know i will get bitched at for this but I would watch a Kate movie ANY day over Meryl. But anyways, Mama Mia doesn't hold a candle to The Reader. She always wins, everyone always votes for her, and honestly I think its because shes been around for forever and won a million awards. Give it up Streep, Kates taking over. It's her turn!
