Last I heard, dictatorships are all about control so it makes sense that they are not going to let details out easily until they know how they can control a new situation. Don't be expecting a dictatorship to demonstrate freedom of speech, press, etc. just because that exists on some (diminishing) level in the U.S. Where there is smoke, there is fire and Perez has an EXCELLENT reputation for reporting things quickly and accurately. If Castro's death is announced any time soon, you haters and/or fair-weathered Perez supporters will all be wrong. Are you ready for that? Even if Perez does make a mistake, his reports (and those of Jon Stewart) are still more accurate than the mainstream media. Remember that the mainstream media often prove what Perez has already listed. I give you the benefit of the doubt Perez - you report cautiously by raising questions or you report what other people are reporting by linking to their sites until you are very sure of from your own sources. In this case you are confident so I believe you know what you are doing this time. If not, I still think your a breath of fresh air who's putting pressure on other media sources to step up their game. Time will reveal that Perez haters and doubters are just that. In Cuba, officials remained tightlipped about Castro's condition.
"Fidel is doing very well and is disciplined in his recovery process," Cuban foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque told reporters in Brazil on Thursday. Perez Roque insisted Castro maintains "permanent" contact with members of the government party in Cuba.
On official Cuban television, there was no hint of trouble Friday. A rerun of the hit NBC series "Friends" played late in the afternoon.
To steal a title from Nobel prize-winning Colombian author and Castro friend, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the last two weeks have been a nonstop "Chronicle of a Death Foretold."

3) The current Cuban foreign minister has expressed that Fidel is considering retirement and/or not taking power back from his brother.
4) This will make Fidel the first dictator to quit/resign/retire…a bit unheard of where dictators' egos and stubborness are concerned.
5) Modern dictators have usually come to power in times of emergency. Frequently they have seized power by coup d'état. They don't give power to their brother while simultaneously claiming to be healthy. Think people. The guy is dead or in bad shape!

I just came back from a 2 week vacation in Cuba. To the person above who says he just returned also and knows Fidel is dead — BULL! It was Fidel's birthday on Aug 13 and they had celebrations and signs all over Havana. I definitely did not get that impression he was dead when some signs read "Viva Fidel 80 Mas"!!!! And the families and all of the Cubans I met there were wonderful, happy people who don't deserve to live the way they are forced to live. To all the people who say Cubans should go back home now — go to Cuba and live with some families and see how you like not having toilet paper because you are a doctor and make the equivalent of $30 US and need to feed and clothe your family!!!! You are truly ignorant and have no clue Maybe you should go back to the country from where your relatives emigrated from!
