This is just incredibly shocking.
Owen Wilson's emergency hospitalization on Sunday was the result of a suicide attempt, The National Enquirer and Star magazine are exclusively reporting.
Sources tell the mags that Wilson sliced his left wrists and took an indeterminate amount of pills.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
Owen was discovered by a family member who summoned help.
Police and an ambulance responded to a 911 call from Wilson's house in Los Angeles around noon on Sunday.
Owen is said to be in stable condition at the moment.
This is hardcore.
Suicide is never a good option, kids.

"Owen Wilson has now been transferred from St. John's to another Los Angeles area hospital. His brothers Andrew and Luke are with him.
"Andrew found him after the suicide attempt and called an ambulance. Both of Owen's wrists were slashed superficially and Owen had taken an overdose of pills.
"Owen was found with a nearly empty bottle of pills next to him. He was at his house in Santa Monica."

I understand that people around him are vey concerned as well as they should be, but how is this different from a Pete Doherty, trying to kill himself through drugs?

I woke in ICU. The first few moments are still clouded, but I have since been told that I regained consciousness, panicked and started to be freaked out before I was put back under. When I was again conscious, the breathing tube had been removed (it was put part of the induced coma), and the initial obstruction that had begun to freak me (as I choked from instinct) was explained. I was told of the 'significant suicide' attempt.
I hope he is okay. My prayers go out to him. Whatever he is going through must be pretty bad. Thank god he was not successful.

There are many ways to kill yourself. That would mean that people who smoke themselves to death or work themselves to death or eat themselves to death are cowards as well. Then there is the direct route..like jumping off of a building..
If Owen was depressed or suffering from some sort of mental illness it affects the chemical balance in the brain. That, added with alcohol addiction & drug addiction (if these rumours are true) would just create a vicious circle. The problem is that mental illness like depression is not recognized by society as an illness but is just considered weak. Anyhow, I hope he gets through this ok and speaks openly and honestly about how he is. Because if it is just swept under the rug so to speak it will still be considered taboo and people will never get the help they need.

People are having their health benefis cut or slashed and do not have the money to attain needed money or go to the doctor. Mr. Wilson can't cope? He hopefully can read this and realize how much he truly has to live for versus those who are really under duress financially and psychologically.

Hey kat - I felt I had to say this because of the prevailing atittude in this forum being one of compassion to someone who did an extremely selfish act.
I have contemplated suicide in occasion in the very distant past and can speak from experience taht it is a choice, and an extremely selfish one at that.
And I have been confronted with people with mental ilnesses in my life, with which I have had to deal with. These people became violent towards others, and wreaked havoc. I had to deal with their aftermath.
Today I woke up to drive my grandfather to hospital, beacuse he is ill, with an infectious DISEASE, for testing. He did not CHOOOSE to commit an act of selfishness; something BEYOND his control happened to him.
So shut the fuck up about being commpassionate, okay?

Depression is an illness that does not discriminate based on your pocketbook. Those inflicted with it will often turn to drugs to self-medicate. Let's not forget Belushi, Anna Nicole, Jim Henderson - all wealthy people who suffered from inner turmoil. Same thing is happening to Amy Winehouse, Peter Doherty, etc. Let's just wish Owen well instead of knocking him down when he's already down.

If this story is true, I do hope that his P.R. people do not try to pull the wool over our eyes by insisting he's exhausted, dehydrated or has a stomach virus..blablabla.. We can all read through that. In order for them to be honest though, we the fans have to be able to show some compassion and say..it's ok, we accept that people can have problems..Let's just hope he gets better.
People with "everything" more often get depressed and/or want to kill themselves because once you have access to anything you could ever really want materially, you realize that it's not all that great. The thing that keeps most people going is their hope for the future… if you're not working towards something you get philosophical, and sometimes that can be really fucking depressing.

Yeah, yeah, we've all had fatalistic thoughts like "maybe I should jump in front of that train" after a bad day at work, but they're brief, silly things we totally forget 30 seconds later. You obviously can't quite understand the facts, NO ONE chooses to feel that way and suffer from depression/bipolar disorder/etc. It causes irrational thinking and decisions (such as suicide attempts), like Alzheimer's, hypoglycemia and other things affect the mind and behaviour - are you going to call those selfish, too? People with mental illnesses have DISEASES that they have no control over; they didn't choose to have abnormal levels of seratonin etc in their brain, any more than your grandad chose to be infected with whatever. If people with depression are weak… then so is your grandad. Selfish old man should've just snapped out of it and banished those germs, rather than indulging in it & burdening you, right?

knowing someone that is a friend of my family that is going through quite much the same thing as he, it's never an easy time and i know exactly what he and his family and friends must be going through right now…
he should know that no matter what, things will get better and whatever he is worrying about, it'll pass in time–in the long run you'll be happier knowing you've stayed alive instead of having taken your life by your own hands [so to speak]

It is a cry for help, and they have been to a place where they see no hope for the future. There are so many people who suffer silently, because they are feeling ashamed and afraid to ask for help. Suicide is sometimes their only option and we all need to wake up and understand what mental illness realy does to people and how it affects those close to them. The only point to your following this story encourages people who need real help and counselling to do (if this is true) what they need to do and get help.
