So guess what? Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal will be starring in a big screen adaptation of the classic musicals Damn Yankees.
Now, before you fret, know that the film is in the hands of power-producing team Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who have successfully brought to both big and small screens Hairspray, A Raisin in the Sun, and the Oscar winning Chicago.
Considering their resume, we think we can trust them to, as they said, strike “a balance that retains the show’s classic tunes like “(You Gotta Have) Heart” and “Whatever Lola Wants,” while injecting a contemporary feel on a musical that is firmly rooted in the 1950s. The intention is to get a script from Ganz and Mandel before meeting directors, and actresses who’ll want to play Lola.”
For now, they’ve got Carrey down as the devil to whom Gyllenhaal as Boyd/Joe Hardy sells his soul to for the victory of his baseball team.
P.S. Can Jake even sing?????
