In Lake Calcasieu, Louisiana, a wonder worthy of Hello Kitty has been discovered!
A pink dolphin!
We shit you not!
The dolphin's "stunningly pink" color is the result of albinism, which is indicated by its red eyes as well as its pink skin. Don't worry, the dolphin is totally healthy. He's just pink!
Charter boat captain Erik Rue spotted and photographed the pink dolphin, saying, "I had never seen anything like it. It's the same color throughout the whole body and it looks like it just came out of a paint booth."
We wonder if the dolphin is a Perez fan?
Regina Asmutis-Silvia, senior biologist with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society reminds folks to "be careful, as with any dolphins, to respect it - observe from a distance, limit their time watching, don't chase or harass it."
That way everyone can enjoy the fabulous dolphin for as long as he lives!

There are pink river dolphins in the Amazon but those are a different species. This is a bottlenose dolphin which is normally gray in color. About 20 different whale and dolphin species have been documented with some level of albinism. It is unknown as to the specific genetic type of albinism this dolphin has, but it's likely to be able to lead a normal life, assuming it is not harassed by too much attention. Pink dolphins are not so uncommon to LG. She sees them all the time in the trailer park pool. Sometimes pink elephants are on parade around her trailer too.

Old news. This pink dolphin has been swimming around the ferry landing in Cameron, Louisiana since 2005 after Hurricane Rita napalmed the town off the map. Lived there and saw it many times.

Hey I live in Lake Charles & I didn't even know this!!!!!! Dolphin have gotten more inland before & it usually doesn't end well………All our lake & waterways are connected to the Gulf of Mexico….so that's how that can happen.

Re: smartgirl77 – If you do your research, there are freshwater dolphins and there are also pink dophins, such as found in the Amazon in South America. Perez, you really need to start doing some research. Just because its pink, doesnt mean its albino. It would actually have to have samples taken from it to find out why it is pink. And this same dolphin was reported over a year ago. This is old news.
—Most dolphins do not have good eyesight, they rely in echo-location (sonar). Why dont you do your research and go back to school?
