Apparently, everyone in Vancouver is very "green"-friendly.

I live in Toronto Canada and as long as there are no actual cops walking on the street, you can totally smoke a joint. I mean, I wouldn't do it in the financial district or anything but pretty much anywhere else…
Yeahhhhh it's not that easy in Vancouver. They don't crack down as hard as other places, but you can still get popped.
Did you know that British Columbia (the province Vancouver is in) smokes more pot than Amsterdam where it's legal!

Also, from Vancouver BC. Its 'kind' of true. Truth is BC is apparently the dope capital of the world?! There is so much of it that the police aren't really motivated to get you just for smoking one joint on the streets. There is too much of it around here. On 4:20 (april 20th) this year, I was in Victoria (Capital city of our BEAUTIFUL province) and there were THOUSANDS of people smoking dope right in front of the parliament buildings…so much so there was a haze in the sky…its not so tabu up here to smoke it….they dont call it beautiful british columbia for nothing you know!

being from vancouver i have to say that it's more common than not to smoke on the streets in the city. however it's not legalized as of yet, so be discreet when lighting up. it's not like you can sit at starbucks and toke away.
Nobody smokes right on the street…we usually go to a park (there are parks everywhere in Canadian cities). I'm 30 and I've never seen anyone get arrested for smoking weed in public. And I live in Ottawa, a smaller city than Vancouver.
Get caught with the Mary Jane in Ann Arbor and get a $5 fine.

Actually - It's not just Vancouver where the police focus on actual crimes harming society. In Toronto, I walk everywhere smoking my hoots. And I'm not the only one. It's not uncommon to be walking by toking, and have someone stop you to sit on a bench and have a session with them because hey - tokin's way better if you have someone to 'stone-it-up' with.

I was at the weed march this year and it was insane we had like 5 cannons going and this group of ten people near us just hitting this huge community bong and the po just walk right by! as long as you arent selling it or atleast they dont see you selling it and you arent causing any trouble they dont care! its crazy! i wish i could attach a pic i have a pic of the po at the weed march! it was jokes! the police here are very different here with weed then in the states.

We actually have a Cafe here called The Amsterdam Cafe (Snoop Dogg missed his flight last week from Vancouver because he was chilling there) where you can sit down, have a beverage and smoke a joint. Weed is decriminalized here so no one cares unless you're selling or carrying copious amounts of it.

It's true…pretty much anywhere in Canada you can walk around outside and smoke some dope and no one really cares. It's the same in Toronto, too…I live close to Toronto, and the many times I've been there, I always see a couple people smoking something OTHER THAN your average cigarette.

Oops, I had a typo in my posting. I meant to say that pot is way LESS harmful than alcohol. (No, I'm not stoned…haven't smoked out in months.) And you're right, other things come from nature, but pot is smoked as the plant it grows as. It doesn't need to be processed into a powder or other form. Plus pot has proven medicinal effects as well as just being fun, safe and non-addictive.

Ive lived here my entire life … for those who say Canada is not that Liberal … Its not illegal to smoke the ganja, only to traffic it. So if your walking down the street smoking one, the cops can only confiscate, but mostly its not worth their time. The most surprising thing i found when travelling is that its not like that anywhere else. Vancouver is one of the best cities in the world. Its true, we are very liberal, and "green" friendly.
I'm from Austin, TX and there are sometimes that you can smoke in public and most likely won't get arrested- Reggae Fest, ACL (Austin City Limits), Eeyore's Birthday… I'm sure a lot of more liberal places in the US tend to be this way during concerts/events.

There are cafe's in Vancouver where you can go smoke pot, it's not a big deal. Also recently the Canadian government has been playing with the idea of legalizing it again for the sake of tourism and taxes which is a fantastic idea, especially considering the Conservatives are in charge right now. I don't think Lilly is any cooler or less cool for smoking pot…it's just pot!

The same goes in Toronto Canada. We even have what is called the Marijunana March, where a bunch of people gather at Queens Park then march around Downtown Toronto, smoking pot. The cops are there, no one is arrested and we make it back to Queens Park for 420, to continue the fun.

Though I'm not a smoker, I have some friends who do, and while I don't condone/promote smoking pot or operating machinery/driving while high, I have to admit my friends always seem so relaxed. P.S. Probably the #1 reason why it's illegal in the US is because the government knows if it were legal, us taxpayers wouldn't be paying for Joe Schmo's arrest and time in jail for possession, etc.

The food is pretty good. you arent allowed to smoke cigarettes inside. you walk in and its like a lounge but everyone is smoking weed instead of drinking.. it isnt legal to blaze on the streets of vancouver..most people don't care because weed isnt viewed as bad in canada as it is in the usa.

I am from Vancouver — actually I work right downtown. MJ isn't 'legal' here but you won't get arrested, or even stopped, by police for smoking it publicly. We have stores everywhere that sell paraphernalia really blanantly, and they are never closed down. 1 in 10 people you pass in the street are smoking it.
