Did you know that in Vancouver, Canada, you can smoke herb in the streets and the cops won't arrest you?
Apparently, everyone in Vancouver is very "green"-friendly.

that is so not true…it may be a little more relax in vancouver, but you cant just walk right by the cops smoking a joint.

well, if you go down to your local medicann.com facility here in beautifuL hollywood, you can get qualified to smoke "the great herb" anywhere smoking cigarettes is allowed.(except for around schools),any kind of chronic pain, eating disorder, or a lot of other stuff will qualify you. i was in and out smoking leagally in no time. SMOKE AND BE HAPPY!!!

Hello from Ottawa, Canada, haha, you must be kidding me. It is illegal to smoke it, but it's not like in the US where the cops will stop you if you are smoking one. They will stop you if they see you selling some.
I'm from Toronto and we regularily smoke joints walking down Queen St W (one of the busiest streets in the country) even in the main tourist section. You might be curious to know we also have a few Amsterdam style COFFEE SHOPS where you can SMOKE POT as long as you bring your own
its still illegal its just cops some times have better things to do than arrest you for a smoking a dube!! Canada Rocks!!!
Some cops care, some don't. The weed laws in Canada are confusing, even to cops, and some people are getting arrested (even in Van) for a joint, while some people with an ounce are let go. Depends on the cop and how much they love paperwork.
You can pretty much get away with smoking pot anywhere in Canada…it's really not that big of a deal here. i have personally smoked joins many times right on the lawn of Parliament Hill in Ottawa which is our Government…it's great!

It is def not legal but cops kinda look the other way. In fact my bro just got arrested for about 30 sec after someone reported him rolling a dubie on the streets of downtown during the day, but hell that's a rare incident.
In fact i just smoked a joint on the beach yesterday with thousands of other people tanning under the vancouver sun. There are more pressing issues to be taken care of than smoking herbal remedies on the street.

Being a resident of Vancouver, i've blazed many a joint on the streets of Vancouver. The only time you'll get busted is if the cop is in a pissy mood, and even then, the most they'll do is take it from you.

Hey, to all you people from Vancouver saying the cops will take it away are WRONG! They will only take it and maybe charge you if they are individually wrapped (like 10 bags) because you can get charged with intent to sell.
BTW - What about 4/20 at 4:20 when everyone gathers at the art gallery to have a huge smokefest? The cops can't do anything about it, they even walk around, and people will even hand you dubes in the street.
yeah you can smoke it in the streets, only really if it's like a doob or bowl full. cops will try to take your pipe & if you have a substantial amount of green on you, they will confiscate it.
although, to keep your pipe, you can say that you bought it legally in a TOBACCO store, as they're sold as tobacco pipes.
so for all the idiots out there making uneducated guesses at the pot laws in canada… it is ILLEGAL to sell or smoke pot. one joint is not a criminal offense because it is such a small amount, so you cant be charged with it, but youre not ALLOWED to have it. the cops WILL take it away if they know about it, you just wont get a record or fine unless its a larger quantity. figure it out.

It's true. i live in Vancouver and sometimes people smoke pot at bus stations , etc. Its so popular here the cops ignore it straight up. Even at events with cops, people do it anyways.
Its true. Even if you have an ounce of weed and it doesn't seem like you are selling it (just smoking it yourself) the cops couldn't care less. Worst that would happen is they might take away your stash. They are to busy dealing with the crazy homeless/herion addict problems on the downtown eastside to be bothered with the green stuff
You are allowed to have three joints on you in Van City. You should have been there on 420, the art museum downtown turned into a stand for legalizing marajuana.. approximately 5000 joints were going alllllll day. Insane.

Also, in response to the Canadians freaking out saying you actually will be arrested…. Vancouver is a bit different then the rest of Canada. Our city is particularly leniant when it comes to weed. If you aren't making a scene or being troublesome you will not get in trouble for smoking a joint in public. I do it pretty much every day and have never come close to being arrested

Although weed is illegal in Canada, it's true that walking through the streets with a joint in hand is "allowed" - and not only in Vancouver. Toronto is the same - I've walked the streets many times, joint in hand, with no problems.

vancouver is great. weed is decriminalized, meaning if you're holding anything considered 'personal posession.' you cannot get arrested. people do toke up on the streets but then again, the downtown eastside is one of the worst drug laiden places on earth. go down to main and hastings and you'll see dudes, shooting up.
vancouver is beautiful but the drug problems are rampant…THUS the safe injection site which is amazing. addicts can go to the safe injection site and get high with sterilized needles and do it as safe as they can rather than picking up used needles and spreading the disease.

#1 it is not legal in BC you will get stopped and if the cop is in a bad mood you will be arrested, beat up and thrown in the drunk tank and sent to court.
#2 it will not be decriminalized until the US does as doing so would drastically hurt relations between the two countries and probably result in sanctions as long as the republicans are in power, and lets face it with the US, Canada cannot survive.

who saw the cover of the Province a couple of weeks back where it said 50% of Canadians have smoked Pot, so they want to make it so that carrying pot is not a conviction, more like a fine so that some people can still cross the border.
And btw, we have a big party every year in front the of the Art Gallery where everyone gathers to smoke pot (on 4/20) and none of the cops do anything.
i live in vancouver - that isn't true. we ARE very pot friend here in british columbia, however… on "Canabis Day" which happens to double as Canada day (lol) everyone goes downtown and has a weed rally at the art gallery.. on special days like that the cops don't do anything about pot smoking cause it's pretty much impossible. but.. in general if you're just strolling down the street puffing one and you walk by a cop, ur fucked. i guess not as fucked as u would be in the states tho.. you would NEVER do jail time here for that. hell, you can grow pot and get out of jail time here! gotta love us canadians!

Just writing in response to people in Vancouver being aloud to smoke pot on the streets without being arrested. I wish that were the case. I have gotten in shit many a time for smoking pot in public. I think that the cops here are more laid back and in Vancouver there is sooo much herion addiciton on the streets that the cops are more worried about that. They will fine you though and take your pot. So why get caught and lose the herb? I have lived here all my life, so when I walk downtown Vancouver smoking herb, I smoke it to myself like it is a cigarette. Then if I see the fuzz, I can thro it out quickly. WHen you share it is definatly more obvious:) By the way Perez, I swear you were smoking lots of it on one of the last blogs you did on youtube. Its all good, better than the crack!!!

Carnival was NOT on Thursday!! It was over the Bank Holiday weekend!!!
I went on a road trip from Texas to Banff Park in 2000. Candians Border Patrol pulled us over and searched our car. I assumed they were looking for drugs but they good care less about all the dro around my neck (nature is even more spectacular after a few hits), They were looking for guns. I guess if everyone is stoned enough no need for guns.
Hey Perez- you aren't supposed to smoke up in the streets- they won't really arrest ya but if you're acting up or in a stupor or driving you're in trouble… they frown on it but generally won't take away your goodies. I have family in law enforcement here and they say you are allowed to have up to an ounce on you for personal use only. If it's in little baggies for sale- you're in trouble. BC Bud is recognized worldwide- we have the best bud here. I know people who have gone to Amsterdam and not gotten as high as off certain BC strains. And we're ALL about the medicinial marijuana- holy shit.

Perez, don't forget Seattle. Pot was reduced to a citation for possession of less than an 8th so you generally won't get hasseled for smoking in public. We just had another successful Hempfest with no problems at all. We are trying to take a cue from our fabulous Northern neighbors.

yep, that's vancouver for ya. you're not "allowed" to smoke it in public, but most people (including police) don't really care, as long as you're relatively low-key about it. if you're making a big deal of it and disturbing people, then you probably will attract the attention of a cop.

There are certain, semi public non-profit orgs that you can buy from. They come right to your door, open up their breefcase and you pick what you want. Choose different highs, different flavours. The money goes towards their charity to supply free medicinal marijuana to people who cannot aford it. I'm not going to say which city or country though. lol.
It's true - in British Columbia pot has been decriminalized. The cops won't hassle you for anything less than an ounce. You're allowed to grow male pot plants, but not female.

well.. little known fact.. its not illegal to smoke weed in canada, or have it on you, you get a small fine. We even have cafe's that you can smoke it in as long as the cafe is not selling it to you.

Vancouver rocks! not only can you smoke just about everywhere worry free, but we have cafe's and vapour lounges. If your in town check out the amsterdam cafe or next door the vapour lounge at the BC marijuana party book store! you will find them in the green mile on hastings st ;p

I live in Vancouver, and although we are a very "green friendly" city, you can still be arrested for smoking a joint . But most of the time people will light up discreetly and nothing happens.People become very accustomed to the sweet green odour around the streets….mmmmm
Live in seattle so it's easy to head on up to vancouver for a day of fun and laughter

Canada as a whole is definitely "green" friendly, in many ways…in Toronto we even have several stores that are dedicated to selling products needed for smoking (yay Friendly Stranger!!)…and although it's technically illegal everywhere in Canada, there are definitely some places that are more chill than others…if you want the trippiest place ever, try Nimbin, New South Wales, Australia….I was there a few years ago, and people literally sell hash cakes, brownies, chocolate, cookies, and pot on the street out of wicker baskets…and you can just roll one and smoke one right there! The entire town is dedicated to cannibas and hemp!! Check it out!
