Britney Spears, a smoker, put the breaks on her Vancouver concert Wednesday night because it was too smokey in the arena.
We shit you not!
The Toxic performer, who doesn't even sing live at her shows, walked off stage after just three songs.
The concert came to a complete standstill, lights off, for over 20 minutes - when a voice came over the speaker system and announced that the show would not continue if people kept smoking marijuana (and cigarettes) in the arena. The announcer claimed it was "unsafe" for Britney and the performers to continue with the concert.
Almost 40 minutes later, Spears finally took to the stage again, much to the relief of the thousands in attendance. But, one concertgoer tells us, "She did not look into it at all!"
Maybe Britney was afraid the secondhand pot smoke would get on her hair and shit and would fuck up any random drugs testing she has to undergo to keep custody of her kids or to prove she's not on the drugs again????
Update: We have just obtained an exclusive statement from Spears' camp about the incident in Vancouver.
A rep tells us, "We want to apologize to all the fans who attended our Vancouver show tonight for the brief pause in Britney's set. Crew members above the stage became ill due to a ventilation issue."
Sources tell us it really was a safety issue. "We were concerned for the lighting guys and everyone else working on the show." If one of those guys up above got dizzy or sick from all that marijuana smoke….it wouldn't have been pretty.
Update #2: After the final encore, as Spears ran off the stage, Britney told the audience, "Thanks Vancouver. You were wonderful. Drive safe. Don't smoke weed!" Ha.

Just another note, I would think this would be an inappropriate venue to smoke up at, think of all those little girls who are there. They're like 10 and stuff, that's just brutal…I was at a Britney show in Seattle, in 2003, and there were HUNDREDS of kids there. Just for the record…I went on a dare. I'm not a fan of lipsynching….

Not only does she admit to lip syncing during this tour, but walks off stage for totally bogus reasons. Her "people" obviously are morons for trying to blame the venue. There is nothing wrong with the ventilation system, and the guys working up in the rafters had no health problems due to the fact some people "may have been" smoking. GM Place is a top venue for the 2010 Olympics. Don't blame the venue, blame the performer or just her handlers. Something was amiss, but they should not be making up stories!

I don't think Perez is informing people that the venue - GM PLace - holds up to 60,000 people - how can pot smoke be an issue in there? As I said before, I have been there for numerous concerts and yes there is tons of smoke (cigs or pot) but it's never stopped a performer…..and for that matter, it's not like Britney attracts a high amounf of pot smokers….something else is up here
Then again, I might be misjudging the Vancouver Britney crowd, but at least the people I know going, probably wouldn't be smoking it…then again, they might need to!

Wednesday night’s Britney Spears show was a lip-syncing gong show. The troubled pop star stormed off stage just shortly into her set because GM Place had become too smoky.
“Some people were smoking near the stage and some of the performers took offence and walked off,” said Harvey Jones, vice-president and general manager of arena operations for Canucks Sports and Entertainment. “This is the first time that’s happened.”
Jones said concert attendees were reminded that it was a non-smoking venue and were told that the concert would resume once the air cleared.
Fans at the sold-out Circus concert said they were disappointed in Spears' lacklustre performance and ensuing mini-meltdown.
“I thought it was a technical error and that she should have just gone along with it,” said Caleb Asress, 26, of Vancouver.
“But she’s Britney Spears and a bit of a prima donna, so I guess that’s how it goes. Honestly, I thought the beginning was pretty whack. I mean, I didn’t come for a circus, I came for her Circus.”
Despite the drama, 22-year-old Kristen Bowness, 22, still enjoyed the show.
“I think it’s quite a production, but it was kind of weird when she stopped,” Bowness said. “But I guess that you have to do what you do to protect the dancers and your own health.”

I just got back from the show, and I didn't even smell marijuana once! It was total bullshit! I've been to a lot of concerts where you can barely breathe cause the smoke is so thick…whatever, it probably wasn't Britney that was complaining…and the show WASN'T cancelled…just stopped for 20 minutes. It was AMAZING!

I thought for sure she was going to cancel the whole show. I was NOT impressed. It was smoky because of their damn smoke machine. I didn't smell anything. But yeah, when she came back, not only was she not into it, but the audience was not really either…
Fuck that bitch! We spent $400+ to see that bitch, she came on for 2 songs, left for what we all thought was a costume change. There were some incredible martial artists on stage for 5 min, then nothing… 5, 10, 20 mins no music, no lights, dark… nothing. 20 mins later a voice came on to say tge dancers cant continue, it's too smokey… Then i sat in the hallway with an 11 year old girl, bawling her eyes out, with her aunt, crying "it doesn't even smell like smoke"… I don't smoke weed or smokes, we had close seats, i DID NOT SMELL! obviously the lil girl i was near in the hallway does smoke it or anything! Disappointing does not explain it. Britney lost a lot of fans, guaranteed. I left early, only to meet hundreds of people outside, flipping out. wow! where do i get my refund?!?!

It had to have been something else. And for the drug test, I have friends that toke up around me in enclosed rooms and I tested clean after being at a party about a week earlier. You would have to shotgun it to get enough AND they titrate levels. Hair tests test for drug levels absorbed through the body and into the hair, internally. Washing your hair would remove the external residue. Drug testing is a given where I work, including random testing. They would know if you're actively using or not. They even test for masking agents. And even if some miraculous thing happened and she tested dirty as a direct result of this and noting else (like she catapulted herself off the sobriety wagon), then by logic, everyone else involved in the show would have suddenly tested positive in the same was and in the same amounts.
Considering that her lawyers and other have a $1.5 million guarantee out there for her to perform, even if she wanted to quit, I'm sure it wouldn't be a simple option. Waaaay too much money is at stake here! I think this is one of the most hypocritical things I have ever heard, especially since she is a heavy smoker and has a well known past history of drug use. But then again, this is Britney Spears and she seems to live in some sort of alternate universe at times?

Hey'all I was at the show…It's true…they actually said to stop smoking…The fucked up part was NOBODY was smoking…In their defense though I think there was a ventilation issue at GM Place cause it did get smokey in the lights while we waited 40 minutes for the show to continue…then finally you could feel the ventilation start up better and then on with the show…The concert was awesome, honestly the best stage production I've ever seen. Oh yes and at the end she said "Thank you Vancouver! Drive home safe! Don't smoke weed! And Rock Out with Your Cocks Out!"

I was at this concert tonight and it was the biggest joke concert i have ever been to. we sat in the dark for 45 minutes because Miss Spears couldnt breath due to cigarette smoke. Biggest load of shit i have ever heard. GM place was smoke free besides for her stage smoke. And no body threw anything on the stage.. also when she came back on stage after vanishing for more than 30 minutes, it completely sucked, no one was into it at all, not even the fans really. The people smoking pot during the concert are disrespectful. It's one thing if it's outdoor (I honestly don't care if they do it at one of those, there's enough ventalation that no one is boxed in despite getting second hand high before at one of those XD ) but indoors is not cool.
The person I was with at an indoor concert when that happened, has ashma and it was really starting to irritate her. The closed in area plus the amount of poeple in there made it just that much worse.
Since it is BC, I could only imagine how much pot smoke.

Of course you can smoke weed at a concert in Vancouver. This is VANSTERDAM. Blunt Brothers burned down a few years ago, but it can still be bought at Da Kine Marijuana on Robson Street, New Amsterdam Cafe on West Hastings Street, and The Spirit Within off Granville Street.
I don't blame her. People should respect and obey the rules of the venue. BC is full of hippie, vegetarian, PETA-loving Bud-smoking stoners. My friends lived in an apartment in Vancouver and it was against the rules to barbeque meat on your patio! English better be your second language because I could barely understand a word you wrote. But anyhoo - to what I did understand: I went to The Who in 2006 at GM Place. I don't care if they don't advocate drug use - everyone and their mother was smoking up at that show. Yet Daltry and Townsend were awesome. How is that contradictory? And yes I am a total Attention Whore but that doesn't mean my friends didn't go to the concert and didn't complain about it on Facebook. Just because I don't listen to Britney, doesn't mean my friends don't - it's possible to like different music, you know. Some were happy with it but most weren't and as you'll see from the other posters here, a LOT were angry. And that's how I know.

What a joke! I've been to dozens of concerts in Vancouver ansd Britney was probably the worst of the bunch. It's really frustrating that everyone is saying it was cause of pot.. she didn't say "everyone who's smoking pot" she said "everyone who's smoking" and all the smoke in the arena happened to happen right after a lot of pyrotechnics, that's where the smoke really came from, it'd have to be ALOT of smoking to form that much smoke and people in Vancouver don't smoke as much as most cities I find. THINK ABOUT THIS PEOPLE: imagine how big that arena is vs. how many people were smoking pot. It would take every single person in that arena which would have to be sealed in order for them to have second hand smoke. The stage isn't in the crowd and by the time the smoke would get to her the oxygen would have made the smoke more stale. Obviously not enough of you smoke enough weed to know this. Which is also why you spend $300 dollars to feel bad for someone who lip-synched the entire time…

Try this in most American arenas…simply walk off and have the stage lights turned off and tell the audience nothing for 20 minutes…..when the lights come back on they will notice that the arena has been torn down by angry customers.
FYI all of us Canadians got together and decided we don't want her back in Canada… Just refund the money people wasted and stay in the US, we're ok with that.
Haha that is great, but I don't blame her. If I were getting all hot and sweaty from dancing that much I wouldn't want smoke to interfere….it can make you sick, but I guess pot heads and cancer lovers don't notice at all.

It WAS too smokey!!! Despite her not singing live, she still had to dance a hell of alot, as well as her backup dancers and other performers who all needed to be able to breathe. When the place was airing out all the smoke rose to the top and it was really gross! I don't blame her or her crew, if the Vancouver crowd was disappointed they can blame themselves…

It stopped for 45 minutes. I timed it XD. I was there and the smoke was REALLY bad, the girl next to me had an asthma attack and had to leave! I understand because GM place is not well ventilated, its made for hockey for gods sake! Whatever, she continued, not with full gusto but whatever. I only paid 50$ for my amazing seats. BC has the strictest restrictions so its funny to see how many people were smoking up and that almost all the floor seats were underage wasted whores!
