Mexican singer Gloria Trevi is suing mad. According to a lawsuit she filed on Tuesday in Texas, the singer is suing a television station for defamation.
Those listed in the suit include Mexican network TV Azteca, its U.S. affiliate Azteca America, and Pati Chapoy, the host of the entertainment news show Ventaneando.
The suit states that those involved were deliberately trying to sabotage her career comeback and reputation “through a campaign of slander, libel and defamation, among other charges, as retribution for her refusing to sign with them.”
The TV show also spread rumors that Trevi was dating a drug cartel leader, says the singer.
A lot of this actually goes back to 2000 when Trevi, her manager and a backup singer were accused of abducting luring young girls and sexually abusing them. For realz!
Trevi then spent 5 years in prisons in Brazil and Mexico because of it, before finally being acquitted due to a lack of evidence on charges of kidnapping, rape and corruption of minors.
On Tuesday, Trevi said she thought all the media attacks would stop after her acquittal, adding: “As a mother, I see myself in the situation of doing what any mother would do. I am going to protect my family and my children against whatever.”
An acquittal doesn’t mean you didn’t do it, especially when the young girls testified against you, it just means they couldn’t fully convict you of it, puta!
As for the lawsuit, they’re seeking damages that have yet to be specified, but we’re guessing she’s probably going to ask for millions.
