Has Susan Boyle Finally Met Her Match???

Filed under: Reality Television > Anglophilia > Simon Cowell

How come America's Got Talent isn't as good????

The U.K. is more talented, obviously. Or they have better scouts. Or better reality TV producers!

Britain's Got Talent rocks our socks off!!!!

This weekend's breakout star was an older dude who's a factory worker by day and pizza delivery guy by night.

His name is Jamie Pugh, and - like Susan Boyle - he too chose a song from Les Miserables to audition for BGT.

Les Miz is the new go-to!

While we're not sure we like Jamie's voice as much as SuBo's, we couldn't help but cry like a baby while watching his audition.

He's good, but I will not be surprised to find out his whole stage fright act is really just an act to add fake drama. Or maybe I'm just a cynic.

  2. 2

i have to say, i think Jamie, Susan, and Shaheen are all equally talented, but if i have to choose someone that might win this, it might just be Jamie.
his story is much for heartfelt than Susan and he has the voice of an angel =]

  3. 3

YOUR ADS ARE ANNOYING. You can find the same shit on youtube, Ad-free

  4. 4

    WOW WOW WOW

  5. 5

    aw!

  6. 6

Amazing, brought tears to my eyes…… beautiful story too…… Hard to decide if i like Jamie or Susan???

  7. 7

    I think they'd make a lovely couple. :)

  8. 8

omg he was amazing! i think he might be alittle better than Susan Boyle

  9. 9

i'm so over your dumb adds!!! stop trying to make more money and just post a video!

  10. 10

STOP WITH THE ADDS BEFORE VIDEOS! they are so annoying I'm going to have to stop watching these videos.

  11. 11

i was doing great up until the crowd gave him the standing ovation… then i had to grab my kleenex!! he was amazing!! and i dont think his stage fright was an act… i think it was the real deal.

  12. 12

I think Jaime and Susan should hook up. :)

  13. 13

How come the US version isn't as good? Because looks-obsession is almost terminal in the US, such that a) way less 'non-perfect' people would even attempt to audition, regardless of their talent level and b) the marketing-obsessed money-grubbing whore machines who work in US entertainment wouldn't let them on the air even if they showed up.

Britain is teaching the US something here. Singing talent has more to do with vocal quality than with a 17 year old's ability to squeeze into size zero jeans and master appearing both innocent and like a slut at the same time - ensuring maximum marketing appeal.

  14. 14

WOW He was amazing! Him and his wife could NOT fake those tears #1!!! He was awesome and I'm proud of him for doing what he did! I know it was really hard!

  15. 15

Maybe I'm jaded but that was a huge bowl of bleh! with a side of yawn!

And by the way, what's up with all the fucking ads man? What ever happened to your Mathew Mcconagay short stubby arms shtick? I'm guessing the way to get mario to stop his attacks is by paying him. In the old days that was called blackmail. Things that make you hmmmmmmm?

  16. 16

Like I said on twitter Jamie Pugh = Wales = Paul Potts = Win
Every one knows Wales has the best voices :P

  17. 17

HE'S BETTER LOOKING THAN SUSAN BOYLE.. HE HAS BETTER STAGE PRESENCE.. HE SINGS BETTER WITH MORE PASSION.. SUSAN NEEDS AN XTREME MAKEOVER WHETHER SHE WINS OR NOT. NUFF SAID. +1 FOR JAMIE.

  18. ELL says – reply to this

    18

it's because you guys are eating so many burgers, that your singing voices get clogged up with fat.

  19. ELL says – reply to this

    19

    joking baby
perez omg id love to suck you off

  20. 20

The song, and the singer, both very poignant. In a way, I root for him more than SuBo. Why? Because she was all smiley, chirpy and cheeky and yes, super talented. He looked like a hard working, tired bloke — and with that voice, I hope his dream will be realized.

  21. 21

aww the tears! ya i like him but i want to hear a little more before i make my final decision on his voice.

  22. 22

    lol this looks staged

  23. 23

He was very good. I find it so hard to believe that he is only 37. He looks so much older! He must have had a very hard life to age like that.

  24. 24

ya i went so long without crying then he started to cry and water works started.

  25. 25

ya he was good, but shaheen was amazing too!

  26. Delsy says – reply to this

    26

Lovely watched this last night V good Susan,Jamie and Shaheen are so good i am so proud to call my self british and Ghanaian and Italian

  27. Delsy says – reply to this

    27

Re: stelleisonfire – The Beatles…england……….heloooo………the best selling artist of all time

  28. 28

    a) 37 isn't "older". stfu.

    b) if he has crippling stage fright, performing isn't a great path to take…

  29. 29

awww this totally warmed my heart!
    i hope he wins!

  30. 30

Definately talented… Les Mis is not an easy choice…any of the songs. As for Ms. Boyle, whether she wins or not, I'm curious how/if her career will take off considering all of the past recordings that are surfacing.

  31. 31

Why do people like this? He's out of tune, has no technique, bad technique, shaky vibrato indicating too much tension and lack of control, and not a great instrument. He has no real performance potential the way Susan Boyle does- she has training and knows what she's doing (and doesn't have stage fright, which helps if you want to perform).

  32. 32

    aww, tears!

  33. 33

the music accompanying the entire thing makes the video worth watching
    it fits the moment perfectly

  34. 34

    heh big up the vall-eys!

  35. 35

I am a casting director and producer in the US and I believe Britain's Got Talent has proven they have better reality producers. Last week America's Got Talent came to town and I know of a diamond in the rough gentleman who has an unbelievable voice but doesn't look very Hollywood at all. He did not make it past the first round. BGT knows how to pull the heart strings. Millions and millions of people follow it online. That's good TV! AGT sadly still relies a lot on looks.

  36. 36

    he was amazing
    he has the likablility factor

  37. 37

His voice brought me tears but his story made me cry… I hope we see more of Jaime… he deserves to live his dream

  38. 38

he's good but i didn't cry. still like susan better

  39. 39

that was beautiful! simon better make sure that guy never has to deliver a pizza again!

  40. 40

He's terrific…wow the UK is chocked full of talent.

  41. 41

ong i was watching this and i cried :( soo sad.. i love him already :D

  42. 42

This made me cry so hard. I like him better than Susan simply because i LOVE HIS STORY. wow… talk about a tear jerker

  43. 43

that was sooo sweet. made me cry like a bitty baby. sidenote, who plays that hjeartwrenching music in the background? it's in all the episodes and it's sooo sad

  44. 44

Every time I see one of these videos it makes me cry. That's so incredible for him and he did a great job!

  45. 45

I love Susan like most, but jamie has something extraordinary about him. I dont agree with the self proclaimed cynics among us who think his fear is an act. He was visibly shaken and you could hear it in his voice and see it in his demeanor. He has an amazing gift as does Susan. Hopefully this show is the platform they need to take those gifts and share them with the rest of us. Truly movnig.

  46. 46

What the hell is wrong with these people? Are they fighting cancer? NO Are they on kidney dyalysis? NO Are their loved ones fighting in Iraq? NO And the thing most evil and worse than even death stelf…have they been denied gay marriage NO!!!! So why are they crying every two minutes…its a friggin talent show. Grow a set and stop crying like a bitch! At your age pal if you cry like that u shud see a shrink! And what the hell is with that screaming audience??? Fuck Off!!!!

  47. 47

    OK.

  48. 48

perez Britain simply does have talent thats why!

the thing is that i didn't cry aat Susan Boyle but i cried at him! I did however like the girl that sung and danced she was really good as well.

Hey we have alot to chose from this year :P

    Britain rocks!

  49. 49

my gawd you are such a sellout, commercials??? on your own channel?!
    PerezTV=Sellout TV

  50. 50

I'm Welsh, English, Scottish and Irish. I've got to say that I'm so proud of the people I've seen in these Britain's Got Talent videos you post Perez.

To the assholes who say these people need makeovers… How about giving yourselves personality makeovers? They are real people who look like real people. They aren't manufactured like most of the celebs we have in the states.

Jamie's voice is wonderful. He may not be the stereotypical "sexy model type" but he is a hansom man. He's worked hard in his life so he shows a bit of wear, again, like any REAL human being.

Keep up the good work Jamie!

  51. 51

i did not expect to cry i love love loved it

  52. 52

    Beautiful!
    Thanks for sharing.

  53. 53

    awww!

    i adore him now.

    hes very talented and sweet!

  54. 54

    FOLLOW ME @christilafaurie :] ill follow u back! ;)

  55. 55

Your damn right the uk is talented! :)

  56. 56

AAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!! That was SO sweet & inspiriational! I actually teared up watching this. lol. . I think the problem with American reality TV shows is we are so close minded about how someone looks and/or where the people come from. We might just be the most judgemental people in the world! Instead of supporting those who might actually inspire us, we prefer to support shows that make us feel dumber after having watched them. Best of luck to you Jaie Pugh! You are an inspiration :)

  57. 57

The Brit's really have talent. I enjoy watching them. They are all winners in my book. I wish them all luck with their future. Also I never seen Simon smile so as I do watching this show. He should smile more often.

  58. 58

Jamie all the way,, this whole susan boyle thing has gone way over the top! her audition was great but the whole 'cheeky' thing was very bizarre. go jamie!

  59. 59

this gentleman has brought tears to my eyes. Reading that he is a 'pizza delivery guy by night', i should order a pizza, get it delivered by him, lock him in my house and have him singing for me while i eat the pizza =)

  60. 60

I just learned my lesson to not creep perezhilton.com during workings hours
i couldnt shut this clip off but cried like a baby !

    hes my new favorite !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  61. 61

BGT has been a warehouse of talent this year. He was great but Perez, lose the ads before or I will just go to youtube!

  62. 62

i will tell you why America's GT isn't as good. The producers suck. I auditioned in Boston in March and all one had to do was watch the type of acts they were looking for and you knew if you were 'normal', you did not stand a chance. The way they set up the auditions is also very tacky and they use this main cattle room (that smells like humans and french fries - not a good combo) wherein you wait for your final call while all the typical acts one would expect them to pick are interviewed for over an hour, while you sit there with your thumb up your ass. Then you are not auditioned 1 by 1, they stick 10 of you in a room with college kid types judging you and recording you. I ended up sucking eventhough I am quite talented. www.kathynobrega.net
God help us all in America. They just choose people who they think we will sit on our couches at night and go 'ooh and awwww, etc.' But if you are just a normal gal who has a great big voice, forget it. My sister joked that I should have done one of my characters, with wigs and makeup and all and pulled one over on all of them.

  63. 63

at least dont make me watch the same add everytime i play a god damn video! I hate mateo and it pisses me off to have to watch him everytime you post something.

  66. 66

hes better than subo. the fact he is so humble should make people such as miley cyrus (huge ego little talent) be ashamed, THIS is talent.

  67. $onia says – reply to this

    67

So many people have done this song over the years. The best rendition I ever heard was recorded and performed by Gary Morris. I like Jaimie's version here, but I'm not so convinced that his voice will carry him to impress us any further than this first audition.

  68. ikke says – reply to this

    68

the us has PLENTY of similar talent ….. they need a different show for this type of talent!

  69. 69

Re: stelleisonfire – yes there is deffo something in the water in wales, theyre like ALL good singers

  70. 70

Re: justmeagirl – Hate to say this but gotta agree with you. I wonder how we would have felt if we just heard him sing without being exposed to his back story? It'd be really interesting to hear his song choices and vocal performance once the competition kicks off - I think he'll be very limited but hopefully inspired to seek training as he has already built a huge momentum and I can actually see him in the future playing the role of Jean Valjean (whose song he sung from Les Miserables).

  71. 71

Re: izzypop – the song is called BRING HIM HOME and is (along with I DREAMED A DREAM that Susan Boyle sung on BGT) from the musical LES MISERABLES by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil. This brilliant show sadly closed on Broadway but it's still playing in London.

  72. 72

and the ads are really annoying, i now am definitely not gonna c ghosts of girlfriends past and i cant recite the trailer word 4 word

  73. 73

And can I also add that they are both from South Wales, UK.. where singers such as Tom Jones, Kelly Jones (Stereophonics), Charlotte Church, Katherine Jenkins and Cerys Matthews (Catatonia) are from too!!!

  74. 74

Those damned ads are getting annoying and they are too long.

  75. 75

Susan Boyle is 10000x better than this lad.

  76. 76

He's got a nice voice and a good story, but Susan's still my favorite to win.
It took tremendous courage for her to sing in front of that ridiculing audience, her voice is beautiful and her life story touches me more.
People seem to be getting upset with her because of all the publicity surrounding her, but you have to realize she didn't have anything to do with it and was more surprised by it then anyone.
She's just a sweet woman that entered a talent contest. No one could have anticipated what followed.

  77. 77

    amazing performance

  78. 78

    i think they'd make a great couple too (:
he is so cute, how nervous he was and all
    it made me cry.

  79. 79

Yes Yes Very good…. But that fuckin' Amanda Holden is a Fookin Idiot! She pouts like a Bitch and claps like a fucking seal…She is an absolute TIT!

  80. 80

i think the performance was earnest and everyone loves the underdog who emerges as a result of his humility and personal strengths. We were moved by the choice of his music, and the emotion of the event. I wish he resonated the angelic essence that susan boyle had.

    81

Aw! He's cute and he's such a nice guy.

  82. 82

    fucking pre-roll.

  83. 83

Love it .. even better than Ms. Boyle

  84. 84

I got chills! I want to hear him sing more. "Nessun dorma" I want to hear that.

  85. 85

He seems to "get" the music. Susan is just very technical. He'd get my vote.

  86. 86

They're putting together the cast for a civilian Les Miserablés.

    hes no susan boyle.

    Re: xcalibur
I believe you just evidenced Lickme, ForegroundBackground, @L3*!S, etc.

  89. 89

I think he has better control of his voice than Susan Boyle, but it boils down to confidence and picking the right song…plus, that kid Shaheen is pretty amazing…

  90. 90

why is simon so nice in brittian, and such a ass in america.. still love him though…

  91. 91

wow, and i thought susan boyle couldn't be beat…as much as i love her, jamie actually made me cry. and i'm no crier, either.

I hope to hear more from him in the future.BRAVO!!!!!
    Anita in B.C

    94

Cried like a baby????? I think not! I found the whole affair to be very uncomfortable and the judges' reaction to be a bit contrived. His wife died 10 years ago. He's been with someone else for at least 7 years and they have a 3 year old child. Life goes on.

Oh, and why is no one mentioning his fugness?

Something doesn't seem right with this whole thing. It's not a contest about the person with the "saddest" story. It a TALENT contest for pete's sake.

  95. 95

Perez has met her/his? match! Pervez is wayyyy gone, while Susan has talent!!

  96. 96

honestly. neither of them are THAT great. yeah they have good voices but ive heard wayyy better people at my community theater.

  97. 97

    Very nice.

  98. 98

when this was on tv, i actually swtiched over because i thought it would be too cringeworthy. i got told! sometimes its not just the voice itself, but what they bring to the performance, and that was one of the most emotional performances i've seen in a long time. wonderful!

  99. 99

I was almost crying on Sat. It just seemed so effortless. I must say, I'm hugely surprised with the level of talent we've had this year - I mean last year we only had George for a seriously super amazing talent.

  100. 100

    It is better!
