The tempestuous teen is in a band called "Pretty Reckless" and they played one of their first ever shows - if not the first ever show - Tuesday night in NYC.

I will admit she's much better than I'd expected. But still, it's hard to watch a 15 year old performing like that on stage. It made me cringe.
Hold up, isn't this girl like 15? She has potential, but she just needs to tone it down and stop trying so hard.
Wow… that's actually not half bad. I didn't expect her to sound nearly this mature. I'm pleasantly surprised! I genuinely like the first song.
Meh, it was all right. She sings better than Katy Perry.
that was actually pretty impressive..sadly being on a popular teen soap opera type show is really going to hurt her chances on ever being excepted by the rock community..which is a shame cause the girl's got chops.

not half bad. obviously she's young, she's an actress….she's doing what she thinks a rockstar should do. A little softer version of rock would suit her. Her voice isn't that terrible, i liked it a lot more in the verses than the chorus because it was softer. She's got a cool tone to her voice. Needs work tho.

I'm not a fan of Gossip Girl, so I really didn't have an opinion about Taylor before watching this. Besides being a bit too Courtney Love "inspired", I thought the performance was really solid. The music is pretty fierce, I'm stoked for an album. I think it's interesting that they are presenting their music to the public through live performance, rather than with recordings. Whoever decided that did a good job, It makes them seem more legitimate.

I love her. And she's not growing up to fast. She has to do what she can while she's in the spotlight. We haven't seen any pics of her naked or anything of that nature, so I say let her sing. I loves it. And I absolutely adore her hair. Leave the girl alone, she's 15, she can experiment with hair bleach.

I really love "little j" and I think if she recorded it wouldn't sound so bad in places. She does kind of sound like an early Ashley Simpson though… I just think that every actress that tries to move into singing always fails and their credibility is ruined. They either fail at singing at move back to acting like it was actually their choice or they fail at singing and then can't get another good acting job to save their life. Disney stars excluded - having a 10 year old fan base doesn't count

I was prepared to hate this, mostly because it is another actress trying to be a musician…but since hearing her (and this had been the first I've heard) I have to say, not bad. I never expected that kind of voice from "Little Jennie". At least is doesn't appear to be lip-synched? Bottom line, if she makes it to radio I wouldn't change the station.

Pretty good actually. Her voice compliments the genre, sultry and husky and she can actually sing its quite evident from her LIVE performance. I know alot of you are used to Britney's quote/unquote live (ony when recorded in the studio 6 months ago) performances, but this is the real deal and its good!!!!
i like it, she's got attitude and can sing! i mean obviously there is a need to slag her off cos we've associated her with the spoiled brat she plays on gossip girl but if she was someone we didn't know of [and maybe if she was a lil bit older] i bet most people in here would have more positive things to say.

maybe it's cause every time i heard that she was recording music i kind of laughed and had really low expectations. but i really like it. a lot. and i don't think she's trying to seem edgy or older. she's just being 15. i think so many of us tried out so many different things at that age. anyway. can't wait for the album to drop later this year.
She has an awesome rock and roll voice. Not that bad and she looks comfortable and at ease. A lot better than some out there that can't sing and have to do all those voice-overs and crap.

Upon hearing Taylor Momsen's voice, I have to confess I was electrified by the power and the precision of her vocal range. She is young, but she knows how to sing.But, with such a beautiful voice able to conquer all the emotional ranges, the songs are simply TOO SAFE. We are talking about Taylor, a young woman who is certainly trying to create a persona all her own.
My impression is that Taylor admires such singers as Karen O, Patti Smith, and maybe even the lead singer of Be Your Own Pet??? But, the difference (thus far) is that what makes these women sexy is that they don't give a damn so much that they look PRETTY, which seems to be Taylor's hang up - the slip was too long, too perfect - the hair too shiny, the makeup too precise.
Karen O is loved because she loses her shit on stage, and doesn't give a damn if you happen to see her underwear. My advice to Taylor: I think it's ok to imitate so long as the imitation is a vehicle towards the more authentic self. But for the time being, no more slip-dresses please. You are more concerned about being PRETTY in them than RECKLESS, and rock and roll is always about being RECKLESS.
Also, think about odd chord changes - take a note from Karen O - who has a pretty good voice, but not a GREAT voice (I would venture to say that Taylor has a better voice) but a major part of Karen O's appeal is that she is daring with her vocal ranges within a song - she takes unique twists and turns - the arrangements in the songs are also daring and unique, plus, she really knows how to let go.
But then again, if you are looking for the almighty mass appeal, heavy MTV rotation, new rocker girl on the cover of Seventeen Magazine FAME, then I think you pretty much have that in the bag, along with your brain.

I've never seen Gossip girl so I don't know who this girl is…but I like some of her music. Not riveting, but I would purchase two of these posted songs on itunes.
