Ive chosen not to comment on this whole scenario for a long time, but i think now its time to get some closure. I do not agree with Carrie Prejean's beleifs regarding marriage. However, i have the utmost respect for her. There is nothing i love more than someone who stands up for what they beleive in. In a nonviolent, non excessive way Carrie Prejean has done just that. While i firmly disagree with her views on marriage, I think that we could all stand to be more like Carrie Prejean.
I am so glad she is still Miss California. Perez you were so full of hate with her even your own turn away from your rudeness. You should not judge anyone for their views just like you dont appreciate them judging you on your views. Leave her alone and move on to what you do best and gossip. What is so hysterical to me is that she tears up and cries about her fighting for her freedom like her belief is some minority and it takes this strong person to finally speak out against gay marriage! Because you know, fighting for woman's right=women having rights, fighting for racial equality=all races treated equally, fighting for heterosexual marriage only=fighting for discrimination. Well, she does have the right to stand up for what she believes in, but that doesn't mean people will receive it well. And sometimes, in certain situations, people can agree to disagree; for a lot of people this may not be one of them. HER COMMENT IS OFFENSIVE BECAUSE IT STATES THAT SHE BELIEVES THAT SOME PEOPLE SHOULD NOT HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS, AND THAT MISS CALIFORNIA IS NOT WHAT AMERICA WAS FOUNDED ON. Of course she should not feel scared to state what she believes in, she has every right to but Americans also have the right to say what they want back. Her speech was somewhat convincing, someone did a great job writing it! BUT FOR THE RECORD, Miss California you are not a role model for teens and for people of our generation. Maybe for some but not for most!
The Don correctly figured out that Carrie got thrown a loaded question. I was shocked that Perez tried to turn the pageant into a gay marriage sideshow. The thing the Don got wrong … he forgot to fire Perez.
Everyone must remember that pageants are all about elevating responsible and respectable womanhood in a day when every other gal is a stripper or prostitute or porn star or entitled single mother or all four.
Prejean isn't perfect, but she's 99.5% of that, and that puts her on top of the rest of the whorses in the State of California, including the starlets in Hollywood.
Now, if anybody thinks Perez is right, just imagine what would happen if he put up his favorite lesbian man-hating starlet Megan Fox. She wouldn't get past round one of any pageant.
Speaking of hate: Perez, why have you not zazzed Megan Fox for saying "I would never date a girl who wants to be bisexual, because that means they also sleep with men, and men are so dirty that I'd never want to sleep with a girl who had slept with a man." i am a great supporter of gay marriage but an even greater supporter of freedom of speech… and yes given miss california's answer was not strategically smart but it was her opinion non the less… she wasnt asked whether or not gay marriage is correct but what her belief was and she responded as so… and perez i love you but you really took it too far this time you pushed your own personal agenda and push back the gay communities agenda as a whole… you forget that we are trying to get the support of the straight community with the whole marriage proposition not that of the gay community…i ask that you please think before you act.
One day all Americans will look back and have 'remember when' moments of disgust and disbelief in regard to our treatment of GBLT citizens by the reigning majority in this supposed free and God loving country. Historically we have had similar issue with native Americans, African Americans and other 'non-white' persons. Now the focus has come to include sexuality. Is it because this country is slowly granting civil rights to include our GBLT brethren? Four states and counting…It really is a matter of time. The younger generations aren't as threatened by sex or religion. I do have a recommendation for those who claim to be 'conservative' god-fearing people: Please stop speaking about god and patriotism as if these two abstract, non-tangible concepts are actual objects to hide behind when professing hate and inequality. God and our country don't appreciate being dragged down into the muck with you. Yes, I understand that this is the way she was raised, and that really makes me pity her. I love how nobody cares when Obama says he doesn't support gay marriage (although he is all for civil unions), but they make a big ruckus when some beauty pageant lady states her opinion. I think you asked her a tough question, and either way she would have been scrutinized. As for many of the commentators, please stop bringing up Vanessa Williams. It was a different time period, and the pictures had a much stronger sexual undertone than Miss California's. There were plenty of other pageant contestants that did things against the contract and got to keep their crowns.

I agree that Miss California had the right to say how she felt and her opinion when asked the question about gay marriage, she did NOT have the right to use it to promote and be part of hte National Organization for Marriage's new ad and make appearances for them. That is not what she should have done because NEITHER view represents the state of California. A tyranny of the majority is what happened with prop 8, and though I disagree with Miss California I don't think she should be punished for her views, but she should be punished for promoting them (through NOM, not the question).
I can not believe she got to keep her crown. I understand the freedom of speech, but what happened to if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it all. Do I agree with her? Hell no! I also don't think Perez' actions "undermine her freedom of speech" unless it can be said that expressing a different viewpoint (with or without the aide of celebrity status) undermines someone else's freedom of speech. But there's a difference between expressing a different view and tearing her head off repeatedly in the media. Sure, her opinion is unpopular and (I believe) incorrect, but maybe it would've been more effective if, after the competition was over, you explained to her why you disagreed, showed her an example or two of a gay couple that loved one another so she could see that love between two humans is a beautiful thing regardless of their sexes, and as a result had a chance to convince her that her previous views were wrong in a way that wouldn't hurt her as a person. CON'T
Instead, you've probably turned a woman who was before simply ignorant into an out-and-out homophobe.
Not that you care. Seems like you're more concerned with getting your face plastered everywhere more than you are with ACTUALLY promoting equality. Any good you do by just pissing people off will be strictly incidental. Your methods are ineffective and are what lead to the "us vs. them" mentality that keeps gay marriage from happening nationwide, not to mention making many bisexuals feel isolated and confused about where they fit in within society.

I think because there are a lot of homophobes in the world and the producers don't want to lose them as viewers. She said the only reason she was in trouble was her opinion on gay marriage, which really had nothing to do with the photos. She should've been fired for that, and then the people running the show should've released a statement of some sort saying that they support her, and everyone else's right to free speech, regardless of what that speech says, but that they can't in good conscience allow her to continue being a part of the show when they've fired other contestants in the past for the same reason (similar photos). But they copped out and just let her stay.
