Gossiping in the Heights

If you've never read Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, get to it. Two reasons:
1. It's a classic. You sound smart when you've read a classic.
2. Gossip Girl hottie Ed Westwick is playing the lead of Heathcliff in the new film adaptation. And if you read the book, you will understand how perfect that is.
His leading lady was slated to be Natalie Portman, but Variety is reporting that she was replaced with Gemma Arterton due to scheduling conflicts.
We would have rather had Portman, as we're not sure a Bond Girl can handle the complex role of Cathy, but we'll wait and see the performance to judge.

Um. Are you sure he can pull off such a role? Sure, he has the brooding vibe that Heathcliff has, but that can only go so far.

Gemma will be amazing. She blew me away as Tess in Tess of the D'Urbevilles. Ed looks quite the part, but I'm not sure.

Have read the book and it's Fantabulous. Gemma Atherton has been in some great TV drama, on the other side of the Atlanti, for the BBC (Tess of the D'Urbervilles, based on the Thomas Hardy classic) and in a great ITV series called Lost in Austen. She's more than able for the job! Will definitely go see it. And Ed has the whole badboy thing down, so I reckon it'll be great.
He's absolutely gorgeous!!!!
Gemma Arteton is an AMAZING casting, she'd do a HUNDRED times better than Natalie Portman: 1. she's British, 2. she's already had a leading role as a victorian heroin in the BBCs adapatation of Thomas Hardy's 'Tess of the Derbevilles'
so Yeah, Gemma isn't merely a bond girl, she's a HUGELY talented british actress, who can run in circles around portman anyday od the week

Gemma Arterton did a TV film in the UK late last year of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles (She was Tess, a complex character), and she was amazing! It was the first time I had seen her act and she was mezmorizing. She'll be Great as Cathy.

i do not think he is attractive at all. i dont understand why everyone is making such a big deal about him. his face has the expression of someone who is very snobbish and mean. i have seen him in a few photos and he does not smile at all and his expression stays the same. not at all interested in him.

I will so go watch that movie. It's not only because Ed Westwick is hot but because "Wuthering Heights" is a terrific novel. Now I know that Ed does not seem like the perfect Heathcliff but I believe that he deserves a chance to prove that he can play said role.

Wuthering Heights is a great book, so anything that gets people to read it is fine by me. But, most people seem to think Wuthering Heights is a great romance, however, it's not. Yes, the love between Heathcliff and Cathy is romantic, but the majority of the book is a disturbing portrait of a dysfunctional family. And Heathcliff is terrifying.
Gemma can definatly pull this role off she was in a Masterpiece Theatre film called "Tess of the D'Urbervilles", based on the book. She was an inspired Tess.
They are ruining a classic. Ralph Finnes was a good Heathcliff, Lawrence Olivier was a great Heathcliff- Ed Westwick cannot compare to them. He should stick to Gossip Girl, and Gemma needs to walk away from this movie, she will destroy Catherine! God, how terrible.

I know he's British, and I can handle him better with his normal accent. When he does the American Accent for Gossip Girl he sounds really weird.
Anyway, my mother saw the original Wuthering Heights 18 times, in the 1940's she was working in a movie theatre in Oakland, CA and she had a mad crush on Laurence Olivier, she named her cat Heathcliff, and she almost named my sister Cathy, because of that movie, I saw a newer version with Ralph Feines, and he was really nuts in the movie, really mean and spiteful. So maybe Ed Westwick will be good in it.
