Soap Star Quits Because Of Gay Kiss

Lame!
Young & the Restless newcomer Chris Engen has up and left the series due to a shift in his character's orientation.
According to reports, the actor quit the soap this week because he allegedly did not want to kiss a male co-star.
Sources confirm that the actor has been absent from the tapings, calling in sick very frequently, and has been having meetings with the head honchos of the show. And they aren't too happy with him.
Since he is still under contract with the show, they might take legal action against him.
Seriously, you're an actor for crying out loud. You're not a writer. This is your job!

Perez, you are great and I love your comments! But, I think somewhere along the line you have lost sight of the true meaning of equality. I am a heterosexual woman and believe equality is not only for homesexuals, but all also for us heteros. You want us to respect your rights and I think most of us do, but is also time for you to respect our views. I honestly don't see a big deal with this. If he feels uncomfortable, then so be it. I'm sure that if you were uncomfortable in doing something, and being criticized for it; you wouldn't appreciate that fact. Also, if I were an actress (hypothetically) and they told me to kiss a girl, I would say no… because a) i'm straight and b) i honestttly wouldn't feel comfortable in doing that, and i wouldn't want to consider the fact of doing it either.

Chris Engen's character is NOT turning gay. The character's lawyer is gay and Chris's character uses that to his advantage giving off the wrong signal. His lawyer kisses him. It's one freakin kiss. He is not turning gay. If you sign a contract and are getting paid, you follow the script. Scores of straight men have had an on-screen same sex kiss. It's no big deal. It's not worth quitting over. Just man up and get it over.

Well, considering his character was straight when he signed his contract, I don't think it's fair for the show to push him to do something he couldn't have foreseen and that he is obviously uncomfortable doing. If my boss told me tomorrow that I would have to make out with him in order to keep my job, I'd quit too.
Yes he's an actor That does not mean SEX or kissing has to come with the job and he has to oblige to that if he does not want to. I love my gay friends and all gay people BUT this is still a job. It's like your boss asking you to make out with him during a 9 to 5 shift at a retail store or in a office and if you dont he will fire you. that should be a choice not something you have to do or else.
The messed up thing about this is that actors rarely get big breaks or second chances. This guy is literally an unheard of actor, and that soap may be the only chance he was ever going to get and it might have led to something better. Unless you are an A-List actor, you don't get to prance around and dictate the script, gay material or not. The writers write, the directors direct, and the actors STFU and do the part they were contractually signed on for. Anyone who doesn't comply with that and tries to run the project isn't someone who is ever going to get work. We all have to start somewhere, there are tons of people who would gladly jump in and take that role if he wouldn't. It's just a kiss, no one is asking him to F a dude. Plus it's a soap gay kiss, which will mean it won't be graphic whatsoever.

Basically what I said was that he stood up for his belief even at the risk of his job. Clearly his belief was that he did not want to kiss a man and took a stand. I can't say that I blame him as TV and movies are notorious for typecasting an individual. Awwwww i liked Adam on the show! but yeah…as an actor he should be prepared for these kinds of roles. However, the writers have to keep in mind what their actors are willing to do etc etc. This particular actor was a very poor choice. I think Thad Luckinbill on the show would have been a better choice. He's done gay scenes before and seems more open to it. But i don't think he's homophobic just because he doesn't want to do it. It's unprofessional, but no one knows how he, as an individual feels about the topic.

Unless it state that there would be a homosexual storyline for his character (present or future), he should have a right to be let out of his contract or at least be given a different storyline. I agree with what many other people here have already said–If this was a gay actor not wanting to kiss a woman, it wouldn't even be mentioned, especially on this site. You know, I'm 100% for equal rights, but it's at the point where it's being forced on everyone else. You can't change some people, you can only educate them and hope they do the right thing. Trying to force a religion, ideas, philosophies, a way of life, etc will not make someone want to jump on board.
