Scandals Are Bigger In Texas

San Angelo, Texas, mayor, J.W. Lown, abruptly announced his resignation Wednesday - just as he was to be sworn in as mayor for his fourth term.

His reason for quitting?

He announced from Mexico that he is in a romantic relationship with an illegal alien.

Doesn't sound that juicy?

Well, we forgot to mention that his other half is a MAN!

Surprise!

Lown, a well-respected public servant, won the most recent re-election with 89 percent of the vote in a very conservative West Texas town.

He agreed to come back only "if the people of San Angelo will welcome me back."

Scandalicious! He's cute, too!

Ok I live in San Angelo and the fact of the matter is that most the people who voted for J.W. Lown knew he was gay. And yet they still voted for him. Don't be too shocked, in fact we have more homosexuals in this town than any other town in west Texas. We are the home of Angelo State University and that college proudly boasts the highest number of openly homosexual athletes in all of Texas. We aren't backwards bible thumpers like the rest of the world thinks. (In fact real christians love thy neighbor, real christians love the sinner and hate the sin, and those who say otherwise are hypocrites but that is besides the point here.) Lown was a great mayor. He fought hard to change the stereotypical, and highly offensive, images that the outside world has of San Angelo. I don't think anyone here feels that because of who he has fallen in love with his political agenda will change. In fact I'm sure the 89% that did vote for him would gladly re-elect him if he chose to run again - even after finding out about his "scandalicious" lifestyle.
