Adam Lambert is staying in that closet as long as he can, but he's still preaching about being true to yourself.
In an interview yesterday, he said: "It's a really, really cool thing to be able to show people that you can be yourself, and you should be proud of yourself, and you should own who you are and what you're about, and never make apologies for it."
He also relishes in the opportunity to be an eccentric role model for young Americans and show them how to be comfortable in one's own skin.
"It feels really amazing to be able to try and pass that on to kids and young adults who don't have a role model like that."
That's great Adam, except you're not really doing that.

I think you're wrong about Adam, Perez. I don't think he's "staying in the closet"–I think he's side-stepping the media circus and refusing to let people sensationalize his sexuality. I like that he treats all of this as something not worth addressing–I mean, if photos of him kissing a girl had surfaced, no one would have cared. It a sign of our still intolerant times that his photos have become such a point of discussion, and I think in not apologizing for them OR making a definitive statement about himself based upon them, he's not dignifying an insulting and outdated line of questioning with a response. I respect him for staying above the fray and refusing to let the media make his time on Idol all about being gay (or not). I'm sure they were dying for a "gay glam rocker vs. evangelical christian" angle, and he made it as difficult as possible for them to exploit that. He's said in interviews that the one of the coolest things about the finale was that he and Kris were able to find common ground even though they're very different, and I think that's what he's trying to promote. I don't think he's hiding anything, I think he's just not letting something that shouldn't even be an issue turn into all people will talk about.

Plus, I think some day the notion of "coming out" will be outdated–because coming out suggests that you were once hiding and now you're revealing something to the world. As society progresses, maybe people won't have to "come out of the closet," they can just be free to be who they are without having to face pressure one way or another. I feel like that's where Adam is–does he really need to "come out?" Because I don't really think he was ever IN the closet. The great thing about all these comments is that people don't really care about his sexual orientation! I am happy to read that. Gays and straights are hanging out and not caring about it. It shows a real progress. Perez is very political about being gay, which is needed. I think it is the Harvey Milk idea that people come out so there is more acceptance. But on the other hand Harvey was kind and never forced people to do what they didn't feel like doing. So let Lambert be himself, which is a nice guy who likes to entertain. And if he feels like coming out someday that is his business.

Ok, so here is the problem I have with you Perez. You think that all gay people should be like you. In a way, you are creating a stereotype that other gay people may not want to fit into. Adam doesn't seem to be shying away from any of it, nor is he lame. He has basically stated that he is an artist and can be whoever he wants to be, and doesn't feel the need to explain himself to anyone. He's obviously not scared of anyone knowing what he does by all of the videos and pics that are out there. I think you should recognize that all gays don't have to fit into your mold and act out in an oppressed manner as you do. I find it extremely appealing when celebrities have some sort of mystery to them, because lets face it, with all the media attention today, it's hard to have anything personal not out on the table. I think once you feel like you know everything there is to know about someone, they become a little boring.

He IS being true to himself, and I think its great that he is neither denying it or confirming it — it just goes to show that sexual preferences dont define a person. He is a great artist and not all of his quotes about being himself necessarily pertain to his sexuality, you idiot…He is a very individual musician and that is most likely what he is talking about.
