It looks like Al Gore may be stepping in to help mediate the release of two female American journalists who were tried in North Korea on Thursday after being detained for “trespassing” in the country.
The two journalists, one who is Lisa Ling‘s sister, were detained while working on assignment for Gore’s Current TV.
State Department spokesman Ian Kelly is keeping mum on the issue, stating, “This is such a sensitive issue, I’m just not going to go into those kinds of discussions that we may or may not have had.”
The women face years in a labor camp and the situation could harm the US’s already tenuous relationship with the country.
There’s hope that Gore’s stature could aid in their release!
