Chastity Bono About To Undergo Gender Reassignment

Sonny and Cher's daughter, Chastity Bono, has begun the process of transitioning from female to male.
Bono's publicist confirms it, saying, "Yes, it's true — Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity."
His publicist added, "He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones. It is Chaz's hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his 'coming out' did nearly 20 years ago."
He also asked for respectful privacy during the process.
We wish Chaz all the best on his journey and we're happy for the peace he will find at its end.

Chaz is a SHE, not a HE. You can say it all you want, until the cows come home, but I don't care what the freaks say - once a woman, always a woman. Just because you take some hormones, doesn't make you a GUY. You can't change the brain ya know! You can ACT like a guy, but you can never be one genetically….no matter how many surgeries you have. You will always have female cells inside you!

I dont get this. She can never really be a man. She should just be who she is and get on with her life. I think she should just get some counseling about why she is so unhappy with herself. Most people do not spend much time even thinking about their gender when they get to her age. Just be a person.
If Chaz feels he's a male, I'll call him a male. That's just being respectful. There is no need to go off on a rant. It's his life. If he wants to live it as a male, live and let live.

Re: Rintendo – First off, our vaginas are inverted anyway. You might want to look up the definition for that. Second not all transgenders decide to have the bottom surgery to make a peen because it is a very invasive surgery and there is no guarantee that they will be functional. They usually have their breasts removed and a radical hysterectomy. the male hormones that they take causes the clitoris to enlarge creating a small peen. And to the person who said that you shouldn't chop up your body and fill it full of chemicals, I have PKD so they are getting ready to take out both my kidneys and fill my body full of chemicals and even take out my blood, clean it, and put it back in. Does that make me a bad person? Am I going to hell?

I don't get it but I believe 100% in TO EACH HIS/HER OWN…we all have to worry about ourselves & our own lives and not what others are doing with their OWN bodies…
I happen to live with someone who has transitioned (male to female and without SRS) and I know, not from personally going thru the experience but from actually listening to this person with my heart, how much courage this takes (she lost her entire family) and the fact that they are living as who they truly were when they were born, not as society viewed them. Just because someone is seen by society as being as 1 gender does not mean that that is who they really are inside. Why shouldn't everyone be able to live as who they truly are without the rest of the supposed "normal" world looking down on them? Who is to say what is "normal"? Who doesn't want to live their life being themselves and being happy?

What happens if she changes into a man & then decides she wants to change back into a gay woman? It's happened before and that person had their sex organs removed. It's painful to see how unhappy she is and she feels she has to change her sex in order to be happy within herself.
Does this mean Cher was a lousy mother? This kid is really effed up BIG TIME!! I know mothers screw up their children but when mom pushes the kid to go this far, you have to wonder what really happened in the growing up stages.
And how can she make this BIG announcement and then ask for privacy? I'm confused. Why not just change like Robert/Alexis Arquette & Larry/Lana Wachowski. Those two guys were born males & very quietly, out of the public's eye, became females.

Best wishes for Chaz. Under the best of circumstances, transitioning must be difficult, but being a celebrity must be especially hard.

Younger people might be saying "Who cares?" because they are too young to remember when this kid was on Tv every week with her mom and dad, dressed in a copy of Cher's outfit. To those of us who remember that, this may be news. The rest of you can run along and read other stuff. That said, I hope she is in good enough health to stand all the surgeries; but then again, her mother is Cher! (I'm so going to hell). Double mastectomy though - think about it. Ouchie … I hope it is worth all the pain and expense. Because if it's not, we guess you'll just have to go back to drinking and being miserable

Re: Rintendo – I think it's more about what you feel you are on the inside-male or female- and not how masculine or feminine you look or what parts you have.
As a transgendered person myself I am grateful that anyone who is transgender is able to go through with gaining their life by actually getting surgery. I am also even more discouraged in my own life because reality is for most of us we cannot afford our surgery and life is hell for that but also the obvious misunderstanding by most of society as this page of comments proves makes each one of our lives more difficult to live each day. I do hope that this does not make a joke of our lives as some have done here but brings the reality and severity of this issue to light and will make more people aware of the struggles that those who are transgender live with. It is not a choice and if I had been given that choice I would most certainly not have picked it. People should really think before they judge those that they do only because of their personal fears of what they do not know or understand. We are human beings like all others not freaks or mentally ill. Just trying to live and survive like anyone else.

Why can't she just stay as a lesbian and not go trans. I would be very upset if my lesbian friends decided to get a sex change, and very scared also.
