Former commander-in-chief George W. Bush surprised troops with a pre-recorded message of support during a taping of the Colbert Report's USO tour in Iraq.
We can't believe he had the nerve to do it!
"Laura and I send our greetings to our servicemen and women. Your achievements in Iraq have earned you a special place in American history," said Bush. "You are men and women of great courage and endurance, and that's gonna come in handy. I've sat through some of Stephen's stuff before."
It's sad W. has to rely on schtick to address the troops!!!
"I've gotta say, I miss that guy," replied Colbert after the video message.
Supposedly, Bush's message garnered less applause than President Obama's shout-out last week.

Everyone serving in Iraq is there by CHOICE today. Every 4 years the troops can get out or re-enlist. Everyone in the military today has signed up or re-enlisted. They signed up or re-enlisted knowing they would be going to Afghanistan and Iraq.

If you actually watched the whole week of Colbert, you would know that every political figure that addressed the troops ended with a joke about Colbert, and if you listened to the Iraqi deputy Prime Minister, it was clear that Iraq wants US troops there and that they've done wonders for the country. Ft. Campbell is looking at only 9 months since he hasn't pulled out of Iraq and he already "promised" Congress a build up in Afghanistan. Under Obama, we'll have MORE troops overseas than ever under Bush. But that's too much to comprehend for Obamabots.

And Obama is the reason we're going to have to go back in forces 8/10 years from now. The only strength the Muslim world understands/respects/fears, can be found is a bullet from the muzzle of a gun aimed in their direction. Arafat said it first and he understood. Glad to know you are safely home. My father in law will be leaving for a five month tour of Afghanistan on mine and my husband's first anniversary in January. He has been to Iraq three times and his stories of how our presence is wanted and needed by the Iraqi people completely line up with yours.

There wasn't a Democratic Congress passing laws against Bush's wish or Repubs warnings about housing! Somehow, in arguments "it's all Bush's fault", the Congress has mysteriously vanished. In a few years however, that argument about being all someone else's fault, when our dollar is weaker than ever, most of us rent from banks, and more troops than ever are overseas - given the majority and a Dem president, we really can say "it's all your fault" to Obama!

Bill Clinton teased that his foundation was trying to find a cure for Stephen Colbert. I think he was teasing, but I do sense that Bush is upset at Stephen for ripping into him at the White House correspondents' dinner a few years ago. That was hilarious! Now, they make the comedians go through their routine before the big night. Obama got a lot of applause because he ordered for Stephen's hair to be shaved. The troops were excited about that! Man, what a funny show. This past week in Iraq was hilarious, and I'm glad Stephen highlighted the soldiers, since so many have forgotten about them.
