Dressed in our gay superhero attire, we attended the 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards on Sunday - our fourth year in a row attending the big event!
Perez is part of the MuchMusic extended family, appearing weekly via Skype on MuchOnDemand, and we can't thank them enough for their love and support all these years, and for their love and support after the ceremony as well.
We got to do a skit with the Jonas Brothers - so cool!
And, we got to meet Taylor Lautner - super dooper cool!
Plus, our beloved GaGaloo set the stage ablaze - literally - and delivered the most talked about performance in recent MMVA history!

I just don't agree with how Perez and some of his followers go about it. And now, even with all his hypocrisy before - refusing to apologize for what he condemns and rallies people to get others fired for - throwing the term homophobe around so loosely, and when he gets drunk and stuff hits the fan, the first thing he resorts to is a hateful gay slur. This same slur is part of terms used in the necessity of getting hate crimes passed. If he throws it around so nonchalantly, it's not going to be considered a hate crime term. I share your concern that the 'N' word has assumed a softer meaning as a result of popular, hip hop culture. I live in NYC and hear it all the time in my neighborhood from youth of color. As a gay man I also worry about the 'F' words going the same way. There exists in the gay community a faction who seek to reclaim the 'F' words however. Personally I am not a fan of the 'F' words, as I have indicated on PH postings before.

If we downplay all these hateful words - hate crimes will become non-existent. It's counter-productive to everything the gay community wants to achieve. Unfortunately, Perez plays into the stereotype as part of his schtick then gets upset over people using those stereotypes against him. Video and photo evidence completely and totally counters every claim Perez made (even the biggest - who actually hit him).
I mentioned this elsewhere - but here, if the words like that were said to Perez by Will - during a disturbing the public/peace comment, would be a harsher sentence for a hate crime. If Perez sues - I'd be willing to bet, Perez would get slapped with his own citations (and he knows this). If he presses charges - those of you (collectively) who haven't seen the videos, it will be laid out piece by piece in a nice package by a competing site, showing first Perez started the screaming, blamed the wrong person, asked people to call the police for what had already been considered handled (enticing "false" emergency calls), then lied about it further, and continued his point (though he deleted from his "video" I think - that he wished Fergie would impale herself and DIE.

What I question is this, what constituted the 'crime'? The use of force or the words that came before them?
