Is Adam Lambert already getting too big for his britches?
In response to an independent record label's plans to release an album of pre-Idol tracks called On With The Show, Lambert said, "The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on."
Glambert claims he just sang on the songs and did not have any hand in writing them.
But the label, Hi Fi Recordings, disagrees. They counter:
"Adam is now enjoying the success that he and Wilshire Records hoped for. However, he is now represented by high-profile companies who released a statement in Adam’s name saying the songs on On With the Show were recorded four years ago and Adam only contributed vocals. This is simply not true.
"The songs were recorded in a professional recording studio with top notch musicians and producers since the music was always meant to be released. Of the 11 songs that will appear on the album, On With the Show, Adam co-wrote eight with Monte Pittman (Madonna’s guitar player).
"As co-writer and performer, Adam will receive significant royalties just as any superstar artist would. He has the chance, finally, to make a fortune for his work — definitely more with this album than through a major label deal.
"This pre-Idol work is a fantastic representation of who Adam is and what inspired him during the months before he became famous. We intend to see that Adam will still benefit from the success of 'Want' (on iTunes now), and from the sale of On With the Show, even though he is now part of a major franchise that only wants fans to hear the music Adam records for them."
Which sounds pretty reasonable to us, don't ya think?

All I can say is, "Go, Adam!" I love this guy! He's a superstar talent just about to come to the marketplace, and I hope he does extremely well for himself!

Sounds reasonable to me, but I don't see Adam being too big for his britches. He only wants fans to know that is not the sound he's going for right now, and that this is old work and he's grown as an artist. Cool all the way to me.

Given the contracts, I'm sure they'd have no problems whipping that out to show proof. Not to mention, as I already said - Adam has every reason to lie. Those recordings SUCK. This company PAID him for it, they have every right to make money of it if they so choose. I called it when Adam denied it and everyone was saying how Adam wouldn't make a dime - I said he'd make royalties. Let's see if Adam refuses those checks before talking crap on this label.

Ummm Hi/Fi is feeding the media all these statements for the free publicity…they have not spent any money in promos for ADAM or the image he created for himself. Adam promoted Adam he took all the risks!
They used YOU Mario to promote WORLD PREMIERE …debut album…Ummm they lied! They used You as a viral marketing campaign. FREE advertisement! UNLESS you are being PAID! Hmmmm that would make sense… What's the cost to spread half truths Mario… oh that's right you do it every day!
What sounds reasonable about a record company who only promote an album of DEMOS after you have already made a name for yourself? No advertising, NO artist Promos, NOTHING there big reveal was leaking it TO YOU! And every few hours a statement is sent from Hi/FI to keep the FREE publicity machine going!

You actually believe these lying douche bags over Adam?? You do realize that there are RECORDS of the songs Adam has co-written, right? There's 5 of them- and yes, they were written with Monte Pittman. But guess what? THOSE SONGS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HIFI/WILSHIRE. They were a completely separate venture, mostly for the band that Adam was in Citizen Vein.
So now not only is HiFi continuing to lie about Adam having co-written the songs, but they're also misleading people into believing that Adam's Citizen Vein project was the same as the session work that he did for Wilshire, which IT IS NOT.
I just can't freaking believe anyone would be stupid enough to fall for this crap. Adam has no incentive to lie about this. If he really DID feel confident in the music and was going to get a cut of the profits (which HiFi has been trying to make it appear is the case) then he'd only benefit from releasing it. HiFi, on the other hand, stands to make a WHOLE lot of money if they can convince people that this is a legitimate Adam Lambert work. Re: gimlet123 – Small labels like this don't "sign" artists to long contracts, nor do much promotion publicly. They make some demos and shop around the artist. There's a much higher chance actually, that they tried and major labels turned him down.

I think Adam has just really progressed since that material, and no artist wants stuff they no longer think is their best floating around. Let's face it, "Want" just proves Adam could in fact sing the phone book and make it compelling. While his vocals are great, the song is just, eh. I'm sure his new stuff will be a LOT cooler. That said, I will download the indie album just to get a new Adam fix as an interim until the real album comes out, and I think many other fans will too.
Love Adam Lambert. I don't beleive what the record company says. I think they are just trying to make money off of Adam now that he is famous. If Adam had not entered American Idol, those songs would still be sitting on the shelf collecting dust.
