True Blood Is A True Hit

Last week we mentioned that the second season premiere of True Blood was the highest rated program for the premium cable network since the finale of The Sopranos.
Over 3.7 million viewers tuned in to watch the premiere, which caused the ratings to go up 157% from the first season's premiere. Shall they thank the Twilight fans for that?
And it seems the show's DVD sales are doing pretty good as well!
In fact, True Blood: The Complete First Season DVD has sold over 1 million copies!
The disc set was released four weeks ago and has already made $35 million in total sales.
It also took the top number one spot for TV DVD sales last week, followed by a far second place with Weeds selling 334,000 copies.
So tell us, why do U watch True Blood?

I didn't hear of Twilight until that babe started to play Joan Jett. Otherwise I'm blissfully clueless about that franchise…however I did watch TB last season and LOVE IT!!!

it's a great show. i watch it because i'm a big fan of the books.
the success of twilight has little to do with the success of true blood… it's a totally different target demo… and a totally different take on vampires.
twilight is pretty chaste and safe for the kiddies… true blood is dirty and raunchy.
plus true blood has a campy edge to it that makes it so much fun.
i'm not surprised it's catching on… it's been great since episode one.
~~because……it's bloody hell *SEXY* ! And the castings on this serial hit are all in the right characters . I'm more intrigue on the person that wrote this, because he has some awesome evil deeper invisions on what and how to all the characters would play their roles . And it is always has this evil vampires seedy brutal killings . I say , more power to you all guys ! Keep it up !

I don't think Perez is comparing Twilight to True Blood. I think he is referring to the popularity of all the vampire related books, movies, TV shows, etc. Maybe all the Twilight fans are watching True Blood because it has something to do with vampires… Why does everyone have to get things so twisted?

i watch it because it kicks ass. Buffy was the best tv show ever, and since then i have been hooked on vamp/human love. but i think the real reason season 2 did so well was because season 1 came out in 2007 and all us fans were patiently waiting in anticipation this whole time to see what happened!! and so far it definitely does not dissapoint! season 2 rocks!

I love the books and this is an extension of that. The show is awesome! Full of drama! A little too much nudity though. I don't mind it but it seems excessive and not needed.

First of all don't lump true blood viewers into the same category b/c unlike Twilight, Vampire Diaries or what have u it actually deal with ADULT THEMES that has an intellectual base. Secondly, the acting is vastly superior to that of Twilight. Anna = Academy Award & Golden Globe winner. Cast of Twilight = 0! FACT!

Oh and Smith describes James *the secret vampire lol* as godlike/beautiful and says that Poppy is "dazzled" by him at least twice before the first chapter is over

Obviously you have never seen True Blood because it is nothing like Twilight. It is far more violent and sexual. True Blood is Twilight for adults, although I read the Twilight books and loved (shhh don't tell my husband)!!. The Sookie Stackhouse books are great and HBO has done a great job of adapting to a tv series. Sexy vamps…fun plots…sexy vamps…diverse characters…sexy vamps…action, drama…and sexy vamps!!!

I don't. I tried. Their opening credits consist of half dressed women interspersed with dead animals. I don't get the attraction to dead things that suck blood. Or, live things that suck blood for that matter. And, if I want to watch coupling, I'll watch… Coupling.
I've been OBSESSED since it first aired last summer. Addicted.

True Blood would probably frighten the kids away with the big words and fancy, complex storylines.

Anyone who tries to compare Twilight/True Blood can't possibly have seen them both. They are apples and oranges. I'm over 40 and enjoyed Twilight but True Blood blows it away. It's dark and dramatic and shocking but at the same time funny and entertaining. The characters pull you in right away, all of them. I can't think of one the show could do without.
I love this show. I was worried when the season ended last summer cause I thought there was no way they could keep the suspense going but I was wrong. This show always has a way of keeping me on the edge of my seat wanting to know more. It's got just the right amount of sexy and thriller. It's and awsome show. And even most of the hillbillys and vamps are hot!!
i watch because Alan Ball worked on six feet under! which was probably the best show ever created!

1. it's actually original (even if it's based on a book series)
2. it's well-written, interesting & has good actors
being from the part of Louisiana that this show and the books are based on, I mostly tune in so I can bitch later about the horrible portrayal of our accents and how they mispronounce the names of the cities that are mentioned

When season 1 frist started I felt ripped off as it's so different from the books. The 2nd series rocks! In New Zealand we probably won't get the show until next year but thanks to the wonderful internet I'm up to date. Got to love Eric this season. Their done wonders with him! Him and Sam are the best!

I was looking forward to this before it even started, so I watched 5 mins of the first epi and it was freakin raunchy as hell! I'm a 17 year old girl, I'm not allowed to watch it. Some parts are like freakin disgusting porno crap. I was so disappointing. I'm still sad I can't watch it.
I LOVE the writing, and Lafayette is possibly my MOST favorite character! Other than that, the characters are really good….Renee was one of my faves, until he turned out to be a bad guy! That's all I'm gonna say about him, so I won't give too much away….Also the hot sex scenes don't hurt either!
