Still More Work Ahead For Equal Rights

The Los Angeles Times recently surveyed 1,500 registered California voters if they thought same-sex couples should have their marriages recognized by law.
The result is disheartening: Only 42.49% of voters voted "Yes". The other 57.51 % voted "No".
Very sad. We've come so far and yet still not far enough.
Though the survey does breakdown the Latino demographic, it does not include other POC groups, such as African Americans, who have reportedly been the highest opposition against gay marraige.
Plenty of work still needs to be done if we are to repeal Prop 8 in 2010.

What research do you have that states that African Americans have been the highest opposition against gay marriage? I'm curious to see and analyze this research. African Americans make up 6.7% of the California population and 12.8% of the US population. I'm F***ing tired of erroneous conclusions and misguided research being used. If the numbers are as you report, then again, I ask, what has the gay community done to reach out to and inform the Black community that "equal rights" for gays and same sex couples is not a religious issue but a human rights issue? As a heterosexual African American female, I worked my ass off to educate people on Prop 8, and why a NO vote was demanded of all those who believe in social justice. I realized I was one of few connecting with the Black community. I only saw gay activists working on the west side. Please go kick rocks with this ish… You know what, I'm really tired of you inciting hate through ignorance. I used to visit your site everyday, then I reduced it to 3 times a week. I just need to keep my "hits" away from your page. You need to watch how you report things. Please provide valid and reliable research or a study that states that Blacks, comprising 7% of the California population, are the biggest opposition against gay marriage.

The biggest opposition are the folks who put Prop 8 on the ballot in the first place, folks who funded the measure, and the Coalition of Yes on Prop 8, not BLACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Didn't you find it interesting how they quickly gave you Blacks to direct your anger towards after the election? A sensible person would think critically and understand that the biggest opposition are those who put Prop 8 on the ballot. Re: MarleyRai – This election drove a much higher percentage of blacks to the polls than normal in California. Nearly all of them voted for Barack Obama, and for Prop 8 at the same time. Several million black voters voted against the civil rights of another people. I think that is shameful. 7% of 40,000,000 is an awful lot of people voting for repressing the rights of human beings.
