Prudish broadcasters in Texas have pulled this ad for PETA featuring a pretty near naked Alicia Silverstone.
We kinda feel bad for Alicia, though. She's not really working much these days besides this ad!

And yes, it's the power of the meat industry that will keep the ad off the air in Texas, though PETA has always been great at marketing and getting attention, and millions will see it online, and it's a great career move for Alicia as well.

I'm a meat eater, but I also acknowledge that most of the mass production of beef, chicken, etc.. in this country contributes a lot of air and water pollution. The inhumane conditions under which these animals are kept are not befitting of a civil compassionate society. I figure there's millions of tons of carcass waste rotting away somewhere, instead of being utilized in "snout to tail" fashion, or in other words doing as the Indians did to utilize every part of animal. Plus, eating vegetables IS healthy, and they're void of growth hormones and antibiotics. I try to limit myself to 4 oz. of meat a week, or less. And I look for humane labels when I purchase, although one must be careful because there's a lot of green washing going on (learn about the particulars of your states labeling laws to know what you're really getting when it says natural, organic, or farm raised.) At any rate, go Alicia! There's logic and morality to the Vegetarian option, and we can all do at least a little bit in our own lives to benefit the lives of other –creatures as it were in this case.

I thought when I went in, "boy, there are sure a LOT of fat people here" But I realized it wasn't just there, it's EVERYWHERE! My weight has been steadily inching up since I turned 30 a few years ago. But when a 400 pound man sat next to me and scarfed down 4 large burgers, 2 large fries and 2 shakes I thought "do you really NEED all that?". But it is only a matter of degrees. Re: A different Erin.. – i have to tell you, most of what the public hears about the "horrors of animal confinement" is incorrect and made up by the treehuggers and the hypocrits. i worked on a confinement hog farm and spent a considerable amount of time on the abbatoir floor in college. everything we did was to ensure that the animals were safe, clean and healthy and all times. the reason animals are confined is because they are a danger to themselves and more importantly, the babies. a mother pig will kill everyone of her piglets if given the chance. as for wasting meat, every animal we ever slaughtered was used entirely, except for the head, which was sent to the labs. many ethnic markets use the meats we consider to be byproducts and lots of it goes into animal feeds. (2% of the us population eats dog food so all animal feeds have to be human consumption acceptable according to the fda.)

Make wise choices in where you spend your dollar. Support the businesses that show respect for life in all its forms and the environment. I myself couldn't figure out how to tell "good steak" from "bad steak," so I just swore it all off. The only animal product that I buy these days is free-range eggs.
