Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, released a four-page letter (!) as a warning to all the media outlets that ran (or thought about running) with the "defamatory" story that Sexy Sarah "embezzled funds in the construction of a Wasilla, Alaska, sports arena" back in 2002.

This is to provide notice to [Alaskan blogger] Ms. Moore, and those who republish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, The New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law.
Just as power abhors a vacuum, modern journalism apparently abhors any type of due diligence and fact checking before scurrilous allegations are repeated as fact
'The Alaska Constitution protects the right of free speech, while simultaneously holding those "responsible for the abuse of that right.'… These falsehoods abuse the right to free speech; continuing to publish these falsehoods of criminal activity is reckless, done without any regard for the truth, and is actionable.

Attacking intelligence is a stupid thing anyhow, Ri. We should only attack ideas or reasoning. It would be unfair for us to attack someone who is mentally challenged, correct? And that is what irks me so much about the absentee journalism these days. Not enough talk about the issues just attacking the people who are brave enough to stand up to be counted. Issues… that's what I'm trying to get across here becuase all that I've read and seen on this site is attack of a person.

For instance, why the double standard based on gender exists in the media and in politics…. Like why we don't take the emotion out of same gender unions/marriages/contracts so that we can deal with it as correctly… Those kind of things. I'd much rather talk about those kind of things. Re: Mercine – I can agree with you on this, I always feel though that we all are dangerously close to losing our reasoning and senses because we lashout when we feel threatened.
I don't agree with Palin on many of her stances or actions but I also don't agree with attacking her appearance or her daughters.
I think we all have to be careful to maintain our class because if both sides start slinging mud neither side wins. I try to maintain this even though I slip somtimes.
We both have to stand up and have class as opposed to name calling and accussations.
Ri — that's precisely the point I have been hoping to make. And I think this forum is a great place to start. Many people here seem to harbor ill will towards others. Rather than hate and follow with mean-spirited hate, wouldn't it be better to discuss? We've got many similarities as I've been reading your posts as well. But there are a few (I said "a few" people) who appear to be easily influenced and not well informed. Those are the people I wish we could slow down and have them starting thinking why they feel a particular way and if it really is a true representation or not…
I so agree that the mudslinging HAS to end. It was the great servant leader Gandhi who said “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” as well as “you must be the change you wish to see”.
PereTBNazi is one with whom I take offense and wish he/she would drop emotions from his/her posts. Referring to SP as “dumbass” and “moron whore” isn’t productive and is mean. Ditto calling other posters “bitch” and “bastards.” My great-grandfather created a bastard and he took his own life; even President Barrack Obama technically is a bastard. So the inappropriate and mean use of the word is offensive to me. All the phrases and terms I’ve used have been posted here in a variety of places. I would never use them but had hoped to incite debate and reflection. Perhaps trying to do that on this site is just plain silly of me. I live in a diverse world with a diverse family and diverse group of friends. I just wish the people here who appear to by narrow minded would think about the issues instead of shooting the messenger(s).

Not her hair. Her skirts. Her way of speaking. Though I must say I can't quite comprehend the somewhat passionate response towards hunting and etc.
It's her policies I don't agree with. There may truly be a Republican politician who manages to totally flip the odds and manage to win in 2012, but I truly do not think it will be Palin who does so. I think she's burned too many bridges and revealed too many insecurities.

All I've ever commented about was ignorance of posters, — of whatever party he or she may choose to be affiliated with. Besides, I don't even "run my mouth off" at anybody. I only communicate my thoughts in a way that others can possibly relate. I also don't think it's necessary for me to claim an allegiance to any particular party, so you can throw your generalizations right out the window.
She doesn't have a legal leg to stand on:
1. Most bloggers don't live in AK and those constitutional restrictions don't apply to them. Federal law/national constitution supersedes and free speech is more broadly protected here in the lower 48.
2. Palin is a politician and is fair game for criticism.
3. Palin is famous and thus has to prove that the accusations are not only false but *also* are motivated by malice (hatred).
Sarah Palin is a fucking idiot. You're 15 minutes are up, go back to Alaska and hunt some deer or something.
