Thanks for the little history lesson, but I was born and raised in Utah, and my great-great grandfather was actually one of the first settlers in Utah.
I know plenty of people who are annoyed by the "theocracy", and though Summit county is small, it is an extremely wealthy area. Plus, a good chunk of tourism is from that area.
And as for the church not trying to convert you, congratulations. Because I am a jack mormon, and I have been harassed non-stop by the church for the last 6 years since I stopped going.
If you want to live in freedom and with western values why would you live in a backwards oppressive,republican,non-free cesspool called Utah thats run by a militant religous cult of mormons. Gay people,free people,stop spending money and time in republican backwards red states that resemble the Iranian leadership or the Taliban and move into a progressive blue state. And people if you have gay friends or family,or if you're pro-choice or for separation of church and state don't spend a dime in the republican south,Oklahoma,kansas, Utah,Idaho,and of course the main bigoted sewer called Texas.
Rememeber the mormon republican cult of hate doesn't have a problem with gays "just gay marriage". Well thats the biggest lie coming from the evil cult,because they fight civil unions for gays in the Utah cesspool and now they arrest gay people for showing affection,seems like Utah's mormon cult has a problem with gays period,not just gay marriage. They can add liars and bigots to their cult's claim to fame,but then again they arent fooling anyone,we know damn well who funded prop h8 in Ca.
This couple intentionally entered the private church grounds, engaged in behavior antithetical to the church, when asked to leave, they became argumentative, and police were called. If one goes to seek trouble in order to make a political statement, they will find it. If this couple entered my yard, and began kissing, I'd ask them to leave as well, forcibly if necessary (and I am not anti-gay). The church has the right to dictate what type of behavior is acceptable on it's own private property. The couple was fined for trespassing. Clearly the couple trespassed, so what is the issue again?
Sorry for those of you who don't know Salt Lake City, this land is not private. The City sold the land to the church, however, then a court ruled that the church could not keep this land private because it is a busy city thoroughfare. There fore the city easement that runs through it is public. Only illegal behavior can be cited there. Since Mormon wedding parties pose right out front all the time kissing, kissing is obviously not illegal behavior there. Just another example of the bigoted Mormon Church. They are still bitter that public pressure forced them to accept blacks into the church in around 1980. So they are just trying to discriminate against anybody they still can.

This Really does suck - To show no respect for the church or the people who belong. Guess they don't know what GUEST means. You want to visit the place then do so under the their rules .
