A Final Goodbye To Our White Ball Of Love

Our family dog, Coquito, had been really really sick lately and we had to take him to the animal hospital again on Sunday night and finally put him to sleep.
Losing a pet that has been a part of your heart for 13 years really is like a relative dying.
Our heart aches.
We are thankful for the time we had with our little coconut.
We are thankful that Teddy, mom and sis are all still with us and in good health.
So sad.

Beautiful doggy…glad that he was so loved by you and your family and that you gave him a good life. I know how difficult it is because they are family members. I will say a prayer for you and your family.
I completely understand. I'm sorry for your loss. Having a pet really does become part of the family. My family has had cats since before I was born. Only 1 at a time, but we've been through 4 and currently have one. The longest that I recall lived to be 8 and was the only one who actually died at home. The others just dissapeared. Saddest day of my life before my baba died. Still have one right now and when he goes I don't know what I'll do.

I had to put my 14 year old Springer Spaniel to sleep a year ago this month and she was the best dog anyone could ever ask for, so I most definitely know how you feel. It's so weird not having a pet around that you literally grew up with. I still don't know how I lived the first seven years of my life without my pup.

For all that Perez may irrate me, I also believe he puts forth some goodness into this world too, and obviously his love for Coquito is part of that goodness. I'm sure Coquito was a sweet, loving, darling little soul who is now out of pain and happy in Heaven. Perez, I'm sorry you and your family lost a loved one, because that is what our animals are, they are our loved ones. You made the right decision by understanding that suffering shouldn't continue, no matter how much you want them to stay with you…I know this first hand. To all you assholes that think this is payback, fuck you. Grow the fuck up. Why take a jab when someone is down. It shows your ignorance, arrogance, and full on idiocy. As an avid animal lover. I am so sorry. I know it hurts. I had to do that once to a pet and you never get over it. Only through time. RIP little doggy!
I'm so sorry to hear that Perez. I lost my dog almost 2 years ago and it still hurts and is very sad. You are lucky you have such a wonderful dog like Teddy to help you cope! I send lots of wishes of love to you and your mother who I'm sure is extremely saddened by this as well!

Perez - I met you at a book signing in Oak Brook, IL. LOVED your book. I am so sorry about your little Coquito. People that aren't "pet" people will never get it. I lost a cat when I was a kid and it has been years but sometimes I still get teary eyed if I see a picture of her. My dad retired out west and brought over a box of my stuff and Amy's little kitty collar was in it. I had no idea someone saved it but sometimes I have really good memories and I try to keep them alive so it is like she lives on. R.I.P. Coqito!!!!

Hey Perez, Maybe in Coquito's honor you could make a donation to an animal charity? When I lost my Angelina it made me feel a little bit better, like I was paying her love forward to others that needed it. I know you have a loving heart when it comes to animals, so just a thought.
I just put my cat of 17 years to sleep about a week ago…there's a part of my heart that's missing. I feel your pain.

It IS like losing a family member. My dog, Danny, is very old and the vet gave him six months. It's been heartbreaking for the whole family. Good thoughts your way

It's been two weeks today that we had to put our dog down. There really is nothing worse than losing a pet. It truly is like losing a person. I am so sorry and wish you and your family the best during this.

Losing a pet can be devesating. They are part of the family…and not the part that contributes drama. Hang in there. It will take time to make the hurt go away but it eventually does. But, you'll never forget them or the hurt..or memories.

I've lost a few pets that I'd had for quite some time as well, and it really is like losing a family member, because you love them as though they are a part of your family rather than a pet…something to be owned. My sincerest condolences, Perez. I lost my baby girl 2 months ago today, after having nearly 16 wonderful years with her. Being only 20, I'd had her for most of my life, and it was the toughest thing I've ever dealt with, and still leaves a hole in my heart. I'm nearly losing it just writing this. Just know that he appreciates the good life I'm sure you gave him, and he's probably looking down

I lost a yellow lab 6 months ago and was devasted. Just got a new puppy finally.. didnt think I would do this again.. he is a golden retriever. I am happy but reluctant. outliving the doggies is the worst fear for me. ss for your loss perez. I have 4 kids and 3 g babies.. still losing a dog is the worst…

So sad, and it truly does feel like a family member is gone.
the house gets a little quieter and you catch yourself looking for them, and in my case, scolding them when there not even there! ( our dog has these cancer sores on him, so he wouls lick them non stop, and the sound at night would become very irritating, so I would scold him and tell him to knock it off, heard a sound @ night, and automatically, told him to quit it, then remembering, he's not there anymore)!

OH PEREZ, I JUST WENT THROUGH THIS TOO!!!!!! My cat, Raoul was 1 month away from his 15 birthday and I finally had to put him to sleep a little over a week ago… :*( I'm STILL crying and will never be able to fill the empty space he left…. It is sooooooooooooooo hard!!! It is sort of comforting to hear of others going through the same thing. It's just left me in a depression… I have two other cats, Francisco (aka: Francis) and Juan Valdez and they're totally sad too and we all feel so lonely without Raoul… 15 is such a long time to have them in your life, 13 years is such a long time. It's just not fair that they go so much sooner then us, when they're just as important as the rest of our family. I feel your pain and am shedding a tear for lil Coconut now… RIP.

dear perez it's been a one year since i lost my beloved dog bailie she was a basset hound losing a pet is the hardest thing because they are your family when my collie died our vet sent us a sympathy card with a poem inside called the rainbow bridge death is all around us everyday do what you do best love your family and your animals you never know what the next day brings
Animals, *ESPECIALLY* dogs, are far kinder, wiser, and more compassionate than ANY human being out there. Where as humans interact with humans based on gaining from them, animals only know to love. I once saw an interview of a boy who helped animals in his community, and when the reporter asked "Why do dogs die so early?" he said "It's because they are born to love, so that's why God takes them early. But for humans, it takes much longer to learn how to love unconditionally that's why we're around much longer to learn that lesson"…I cried and thought, wow, he is so right!
Dogs are the best. Anyone who has them knows how much they enrich your lives and anyone who abuses them should be put to death.
