A Perezilicious reader sent us these photos of Cristiano Ronaldo stretching during a warm-up practice in Toronto yesterday.
We're told the Real Madrid player wasn't too well received, especially when the muy guapo soccer stud did a dive. The crowd actually boo'ed him!
Wait, why? We don't understand. Is that like a soccer thing you're not suppose to do?! Explain please!
Come to think of it, we don't really care what he does on the field.
As long as he didn't kick any fans in the face afterwards, we're okay with it.

They boo'ed at him because Cristiano is a whiney cry-baby on the field. He dives at ANYTHING!!! and tries to get the refs to call it as a foul. I like him, but as a player he tries to get fouls called way too much.
A dive is when you fall easily when you have minor contact from an opposing player in an attempt to get a penalty or foul called in your favor. It's dirty cheating and Ronaldo does it as much as anybody in the world. I'm glad they booed him.
A dive is a no-no is football. It's akin to an nba player flopping to get a foul called. It's rather common to get calls and to get your team a little breather, but if done excessively like Crissy likes to do, players are a little less respected.

Diving is where the player pretends to have been fouled and dives/jumps to make it seem like he's been fouled or hurt purposely in the hope of getting a free kick or a penalty.
Ronaldo does that a lot, he's a dick.

C Ronaldo is such an annoying cry baby! Diving is annoying- basically you fall/pretend you've been hurt on minor contact to try and get a free kick/penalty- the worst is when a player gets sent off for a dive. Check out Rivaldo at the 2002 world cup against turkey thats a famous one.
Diving ruins the game because it makes it no fun to watch and players like Ronaldo spend more time on the floor than kicking the ball.

never dive in football/soccer, only if you are the goalie. if you dive, it looks like someone from the other team has fowled them so players do it to get attention. ronaldo does this alooootttttttttttt. its practically his trademark. all those 'good looks' cant be touched on the field so he fakes it so he wont get hurt. 80 fucking million ££££££££££ for him? I was there. He did absolutely nothing. There were thousands of kids there who couldn't afford the 200 and up tickets for the actual game and he gave nothing to it. he pranced around the field a bit, faked an injury (as usual) and was the first off the field while the rest of the team waved to the fans and were nice. i mean come on! don't be such an ass! what the hell are you getting paid the shitload of money for! its def not just cause your pretty…get over it

Here's an explanation for why people boo'ed him. Toronto is Canada's "little Portugal" and we're not really that proud of this particular exportation.
Casspease, you're wrong. Spanish players do like Portuguese players and they LOVE Ronaldo, which is why 80,000 Spanish fans turned out to welcome him for his presentation at the Madrid stadium. In fact, the stadium was completely full something that has never happened before. In contrast, only 50,000 turned out to see the Brazilian superstar player Caca a few days before.
The reason he was boo'ed is because he took a dive during a scrimage with his own team! I like him as a player…but I boo'ed him.

The amount of comments from people here who claim they 'know about soccer' (they wouldn't call it that if they did or use phrases like 'goalkeeper's zone'!) then spout out the most ridiculous tripe is laughable.
Yes, Ronaldo was booed at some points during the match but he received the biggest cheer during the team line-up announcements, the biggest reaction for his goal and a standing ovation when he left the pitch (for which he applauded the crowd). The reasons for the boos: he's ex Sporting and there were a lot of Porto and Benfica fans there who despite that only turned up to see the Portuguese world player of the year; there were a lot of Toronto fans there also - plus it's a running joke that Ronaldo likes being booed and crowds play up to it - it's just panto!
As for diving, look at the physical abuse he receives on the pitch – yes he dives sometimes but he’s on the receiving end of far more fouls (many unpunished) than he commits. Also, trying running at the speed he does, with or without a ball at your feet, and see how easy it is to be knocked off balance. Plus he runs slightly tipped forwards – great for ball control but it put him slightly off balance before any knocks or trips come in. Despite this, one of his major strengths is known to be his ability to use his physical strength, as well as his technical ability, to run past and through defenders.
