Jay Leno Is A Ratings King

Monday night's premiere of The Jay Leno Show brought in HUGE ratings for the Peacock network.
The late night King pulled a 12.1 preliminary metered-market household rating and 19 share for its debut.
That's 70% stronger than the final national household rating for the debut of Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show in June.

We have a feeling Kanye West's appearance also helped.

I watched, and I haven't watched him in years because I prefer Dave and Conan.
Kanye sucked… more self indulgent, insincere, feeling sorry for himself crap.
Jerry Seinfeld hasn't been funny in years…
but overall, the show was OK. The best part was the car wash singer skit - that was FUNNY and very entertaining, even if it did seem very fake and staged.
i guarantee you his ratings were that high because of kanye being there. everyone wanted to see what he had to say about the vma incident.

You also have to remember that none of the shows that he'll be up against have come back yet. So, when there's nothing else to watch, sure, he'll bring in the ratings.

Uhm…Comparing ratings for 10 pm to ratings at 11:30 pm is kind of apples & oranges. Considering all the hype throughout the summer, 12.1 does not sound very high for the premier episode–especially since he has to do that 5 nights a week. You don't even mention whether he won his timeslot. Sounds like NBC is paying you off too.

Jay rules! The numbers will go down as time goes on but even if he was to achieve an 11 share, the show would be considered a success by NBC (meaning $$$ - KaChing!).
i did watch it ,it was good. I did feel really bad for Kanye. when he started tearing up about his mom it broke my heart.. poor guy just misses her… everyone just needs to give him a break….
I Watched it I'm not really a Leno fan but I'm sure Kayne helped although he really didn't say too much. I think Leno's ratings will go down after awhile people are always curious the first night

yes and I loved it. I laughed my ass off. Jay out did himself last night. there was 1 low point when Kayne wanted to talk. I almost fell for his performance till I watched the view when Taylor said he has never tried to contact her to say he was sorry, so it was all an act. but its great to have something to watch that is light hearted and funny before I go to bed after a long stressful day

NBC made a mistake when they fired Jay and replaced him with Conan O'Brien. Conan's ratings are sinking fast. We'll just see how long Conan lasts before they bring back Jay.

I watched it for the Jay-Z, Rihanna, Kanye performance, which I thought Jay-Z sounded a lot better than the night before on the VMAs. And thank god Lil Mama wasn't there to ruin a good performance!

Watched it! Leno is cool and effective in that time slot (who wants to watch murder mysteries like Law & Order right before bedtime?!) Leno is like wearing your favorite old sweatshirt…very comfortable and you know what to expect with him. I almost could not wait for the premier and am so glad Leno is back. Do you guys think that Conan was the best choice to replace Leno…if not, who would you have picked? Thoughts on Fallon? What about poor Carson Daily…is he still on the air?

The show's not gonna be a hit. It will do pretty lame ratings once the other shows start, but will stay on because it is cheap. It's just another talk show where movie stars will be promoting their flicks at 10 - do we need that?

I said it before, and I'll say it again, Kanye was right!!! Taylor Swift has a vocal pitch problem. She sings almost out of pitch, and is very nasal…in her vocals, and straining??? The truth is, Taylor Swift can't sing, and has no charisma as an entertainer or performer. She comes off as an ordinary teenage girl that some record exec just randomly grabbed-off the street, and handed a recording contract to…no talent necessary??? I am not being mean, this is just an observation…of the obvious–that many chose to ignore, in favor of being sold promotional hype like on The View today…that would have us all believe that this girl has talent? YES, I did watch the show last night and yes I did watch Kanye's appearance. I didn't watch his performance, I wasn't interested in that but I watched the interview with Jay and him. You know I understand that his mom died, and believe me I understand that, but that doesn't give you the visa to be a jerk off to everyone. My mom dies when I was 15 one month away form my 16th birthday, my brother who was my best friend left to the Army 2 months after my mom dies my sister did not live at home, I was left alone with an emotionally distant, emotional abusive and verbally abusive father that treated like I was a damn servant. You didn't see me running off at the mouth being mean and hurting people's feelings and being a world renowned douche bag. Yes, he probably never grieved the death of his mom properly but ya know there are professional psychiatrists that can help. I'm just sayin.

I think it helped that it was right after America's Got Talent where they said "stay tune for the new jay leno show" and i was like oh it's today…and stayed and watched… should be interesting to see how the other nights goes

I watched! I always loved the tonight show. I didn't even know Kanye was a guest till it was announced at the beginning of the show. I love Mondays for headlines!! I think it was a decent show. Hopefully tonight is just as good.

I watched Leno, and Im sorry I did. Boring, lame and unfunny. (That carwash bit, wtf was that?? Stupid.) Jerry Seinfeld as always brought his A game, and the Kanye interview was worth watching as a curiousity. But other than that the show TANKED with me. I'll stick to Conan and Jimmy Fallon (and the occasional Letterman), thank you very much.
