Earlier this week, Elton John was told he could not adopt an adorable tot from Ukraine due to a number of the country’s legal reasons.
But, there may be hope! Kind of.
Ukraine’s family, youth and sports minister, Yuri Pavlenko has had a slight change of heart regarding the adoption of 14 month old Lev.
On Thursday, Pavlenk said that Elton “has the right and opportunity to invite the family of this boy to visit him, take them under his guardianship and help him grow into a good person.”
So Ukraine won’t let Elton and partner David Furnish legally adopt him, but they’ll let them financially take care of the child under a “guardianship”?
That doesn’t seem completely fair, but we know Elton and David would be able to give Lev a better life.
Even if Elton agrees to the guardianship, he’s still likely to face opposition with any attempt at caring for the boy because of the country’s Orthodox and Catholic churches view on gay adoption.
Sad.
