Fame Fails!
Please tell us Fame is the last nail in the coffin for shitty movie remakes!!! It's not.
The $25 million remake of the 1980 hit movie musical, Fame, had an absolutely dismal opening this weekend, only pulling in between $9 and $11 mil, placing it at #3 at the box office.
We're not surprised!
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is refusing to let go of its #1 spot, with Bruce Willis' new flick, The Surrogates trailing close behind in 2nd.
Thoughts????

fucking first
I wonder how good that movie; "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" is. I really want to take my little boy to see that.
How long is it going to be before you post something about Roman Polanski's arrest???? Keeping true to form and waiting 3 or 4 days ???? Geez..you should have no trouble finding a news story to copy… it's all over the place…except here… butt nugget
I saw Fame last night….it was ok, but I would recommend waiting to rent it. It was pretty choppy, all the kids are definitely talented…but it just didn't flow well.
I KNEW THIS FAME WOULD BLOW THE ORIGNAL CANT BE REDONE
What the hell? Fame was not shitty at all! It was really, really good. The director and most of the actors were superb!
Cloudy with a chance of meatballs has Neil Patrick Harris in it, WIN!
The movie was horrible!! Took all the best parts out from the original. No storyline whatsoever!
The origional movie "Fame" had a soundtrack that stayed on the charts for months, AND it was an edgy movie and had some adult themes. This movie was completely bland, had no good songs, and was geared towards twelve year olds, no wonder it bombed.
Well when you don't advertise, what do you expect?! I had no idea it opened this weekend. Idiot CEOs have forgotten how important mainstream TV and print advertising is to marketing. For a million dollars they could have bought multiple billboards in every state, and that would have brought in $10 million in sales.
GOOOD,IM FUCKING SICK OF REMAKES!!! HOLLYWOOD HAS NO ORIGINAL IDEAS ANYMORE!!!! SHITTY FILMS MADE EVEN SHITTIER BY FUCKIN RICH IDIOTS WHO THINK THEY KNOW WHAT PEOPLE WANT!!! WELL?!? U NO WHAT?? PEOPLE LIKE NEW AND FUCKIN FREASH IDEAS,OK??? I BET U ONE MILLION BUCKS THERE IS A TWILIGHT REMAKE BY 2040!!!!!
Rha ! u always have to destroy a beautiful pic ! WHY ?
didn't you just recently have a total page blog ad for fame on your site? what a way to offend the hands that feed you…your advertiser will be proud.
i knew it wasn't going to be good
I've heard nothing about "Fame", but I've heard "Cloudy w/ a Chance of Meatballs" is surprisingly funny and rightfully in the first place again from numerous people.
Re: Spindoc – Well said! Any remake of an edgy movie that is geared towards pre-pubescent/tweens feels a bit forced and rarely develops into a hit.
Re: ALFREDOXO – I havnt seen this one, but the original was the shit. I seen it for the very first time last year and the movie came out in like 1980!
I remember crying while watching the very first movie "Fame", because I remember what it was like being a teenager and having so many goals, I took it for granted fucking off in college and now I am 25. This movie is VERY metaphorical in the aspect that it's more than just a movie about musically talented teens shooting for the stars. It's remembering what its is like to be a teen with a strong sense of drive and working very hard to get where you want to be in life. Preserverance.
I loved it sorry but i thought it was fabulous
It'd be better as a TV series than a movie. They could be more creative and take more risks then what they were allowed to do with the movie.
The movie should never have been made for children. They should have focused on young adults.
the Foreign release will get all of that back and more…it will end up making a huge profit
I want to see (Cloudy with a chan…) because it seems like it would be as good as UP. I remember reading it when i was 5, it was one of my fave books
also the stinky cheese man tales book. I've never seen the original FAME, but i have no interest whatsoever to watch this remake, It looked to cliche` like Step Up with Channing Tatum. i might watch the original though.
Legendary producer, Roman Polanski, was arrested for the crime he plead guilty to 30 years ago. This is HUGE celebrity news and you've yet to mention anything on it? Who gives a flying fuck about Fame's ratings? You don't even give it a proper review. You are absolutely daft, Mario, and I will not stop bitching about your recent laziness until you DO something about it!
it looks so good though! i can't wait to see it .
I was super excited to see this, although woaw..what a disappointment! It had no real storyline flow..the only good thing about it was the song!
Re: free bird – Oh yeeeaaah, I forgot about "The Stinky Cheese Man Tales".
Re: PerezTheBlogNazi – It's fantastic! Really funny & brill
You should defo go! I took my little brother & he loved it.
Probably shouldn't have messed with the original. 1980 FAME was very gritty and raw, the choreography and music very minimal, and the characters seemed much more credible. From what I saw in the previews, this movie looked very glossy, over-choreographed, over-dramatic. oversung.
Like I'll admit its not an oscar worthy movie but it entertained me for the afternoon and isn't that what some movies are supposed to do
at first i thought it was a coca cola poster lol
Re: Smooch77 – haaaaaaaaaaaaa
Re: free bird – yeah! Those were my favorites too!
remakes are stupid..come up w//something new
The only thing I liked about "Fame" was the talent. The movie itself was pointless. You hardly got to know any of the characters; you only saw tidbits of their lives. It was way too choppy, there was really no storyline…the list goes on. I just didn't like it. I'm pissed that I spent 8 dollars to go and see it.
Number 3 on the weekend, oh yeah, that a huge failure fatass. Wake the fuck up!
Why does the industry feel the need to remake my childhood? They ruined Speed Racer! I refuse to watch the new 90210 and Melrose. If they remake the Breakfast Club or St. Elmo's Fire, I'm going to be renting remastered copies of George of the Jungle for the rest of my life.
OMG THEY PROMOTED THE FUCK OUT THIS MOVIE ALL SUMMER LONG I DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO SEE IT.
I have no desire to see that movie.. !
well the movie didnt get alot of promo this happens….by the time the movie came out i hardly saw anything for it
I would say it sucks harder than you Mario but that's impossible.
#3 is a flop??
Eh, haven't seen any of them.
I just don't understand why Hollywood feels the need to remake movies. I have read that they are considering a remake of Jaws too. WTF?! Fame was an OK movie, I am talking about the 1980's version, but it wouldn't be a movie that I would pay to see remade. And as for Jaws, I would never pay to see a remake of it because it could never top the original.
I'm almost 16 and I loved FAME, I wanted to dance after considering I am a dancer, but think about it, FAME was rewritten, probably for the teens of this generation, not the teens of the 80's.
I'm not going to see it.
Good! The orignal has it's faults Glad this piece of shit tanked.
Good! The orignal has it's faults Glad this piece of shit tanked.
Good! The orignal has it's faults but was still a pretty good movie. (I love the scene where the girl gets stoned at "Rocky Horror"). Glad this piece of shit tanked.
WHAAAT ? It was so good . Asher Book was hot
This may be true for the rest of the country, but last night we were at the Arclight in Hollywood and the guy at the ticket booth said that Fame and Coco Before Chanel were their top sellers for the weekend. I guess the denizens of WeHo made it East last night before hitting the clubs.
Oh it came in first, big fucking deal, alot of people actually find that a good position! That doesn't mean it failed!!! People just aren't interested in seeing these kinds of movies AND not alot of us can afford to go tot he movies, its the end of the month after all, bring on the bills and rent!
WHAT!!! i saw that movie it was soooo amazing and the lead guy asher book is like the hottest guy everrr maybe even better then zac efronnn
The original movie is a classic. They set themselves up for massive failure. When will Hollywood get that a million mediocre remakes of already great movies won't bring people to the theatres?
Re: Boing Boing Billy – It WAS a TV series after the movie came out!!
Re: PerezTheBlogNazi – Right you are!
Re: Long Dong Connery – Re: Canadiana* – Re: PerezTheBlogNazi – Hey hotties and the rest of the peeps this beautiful Sunday.
Never miss with a classic! I heard about this months ago. Knew this would happen.

If the dvd numbers reflect the box office it will roughly break even (net). So, not very good, but not the end of the world. There is a chance dvd sales are higher though, I think that's where the bulk of HSM money is made. I am sure the execs are disappointed, but no reason for Hari Kari at this point.
Saw Fame and was very disappointed. Was expecting a fun filled musical but it was a boring movie with bad acting. The main girl was good tho..
movie looks like shit, why would anyone see this
Re: Paris France – Hey darling!
Re: Paris France – #55 sorry forks but never mess with a classic! Period!
As with most modern day remakes…this one SUCKS folks…save you money…rent the original or the TV series….When is Hollywood going to wake up and realize that remakes are a bad idea, they have ruined just about everything out there, Willy Wonka, Halloween, The Poseidon Adventure, and the list goes on and on and on…..stick with the originals kiddies…they are always better…at least the originals had stories, characters and good writing…all three are sorely lacking in today's Paint by numbers Hollywood. Very sad that todays kids have to be handed this crap on a plate over and over….
Fame was actually an amazing movie, i thought it was gonna suckkk
Please tell me Perez will die.
I thought that movie blew ass the first time around. Why bother remaking it? Can't Hollywood come up with any new shiz?
saw this movie with a theater full of middle school girls who loved it!
HA… i saw surrogates saturday night… it pretty much sucked too.
I just didn't understand why they made this movie. I just think its cheesy…I don't see high school kids or adults liking this movie. but, I think the tween audience will love it.
My friend, Asher, was in this movie I was proud of him & a few of the other actors. There was a LOT of the movie that was cut out. Highly disappointed with that, I wanted to scream. I think all the commercials is what killed it for the movie in general.
Good movie, but they shouldn't have had cut so much out!
BTW KAY PANABAKER HAS A HUGE ASS FOREHEAD!! =DDDDDD
I'm not surprised! And they're making a remake as well of the A-Team on the big screen! For heaven's sake people - can't you think of anything original anymore! For heaven's sakes, don't touch anymore classic films or shows! No MORE! Please for the love of God!!!!
Such a dissappointment.. I wanted this movie to do well. It wasn't very good. With the exception of the black girl that sang "out here on my own" (she was brillant!!!) Meghan Mulally singing and Debbbie Allen, the other actors lacked charisma.
I think this movie is going to be great! I wish I could have gone this weekend to put those numbers up a little bit! I'm going Wednesday though! Can't wait
I attended The School of Performing Arts when the original Fame came out.
It was a classic. There was no need for a remake.
Not surprised that it failed.
Re: Karolein – You are so right about those horrible 90210 and Melrose Place remakes. As far as the Fame remake goes, I thought the trailer was horrible, so I'm not planning to see the film.
Original "Fame" is a classic…c'mon..we knew that this remake was going to be a waste of money.
PEREZ, you are realllllly starting to piss me off.. cuz you don't know anything! honestly, I'm talking about, you don't know what teenagers want.. selena gomez and so on are TEENAGE stars, not tween stars.. if you think they are tween stars, what is teen stars then? and I saw fame, can't replace the old one, but it was really good!
i saw it this weekend and it thought it was really good. They tried to make a family movie and they did a pretty decent job. I mean, its pretty hard turing a rated-R movie into one thats PG so they desreve more credit than what everyone is giving them. I really like the dancing and the singing and it showed a lot of talent such as Asher book and Naturi Naughton. (it wasnt cheesy like other musical films). They also did an amzing job of grasping the aspect of what fame really is and how not everyone is gonna acheive it. I bought the soundtrack afterwards and songs on it were really good too. For those who havent seen it yet, I recommend you watch it. I thought a pretty good movie.
