Scandalous!
David Letterman made a very personal revelation yesterday on his show, admitting that he has had sexual relations with different (female) members of his staff.
Letterman told the story to his studio audience and the world because he was the target of a $2 million!
Robert Halderman, the alleged extortionist and a producer for CBS, threatened to make the “terrible things” Letterman did public and put them in both a book and a movie unless he was paid off to the tune of 2 million big ones.
Letterman first received a package early one morning in his car about three weeks ago. He explained the situation:
“I get to looking through it and there’s a letter in the package and it says, ‘I know that you do some terrible, terrible things. And I can prove that you do these terrible things.’ Sure enough, contained in the package was stuff to prove that I do terrible things. He’s going to take all the terrible stuff he knows about my life — and according to this packet, there seems to be a lot of terrible stuff he knows about — and he’s going to put it into a movie unless I give him some money.”
Per his attorney’s advice, Letterman met with Halderman 3 different times with the last meeting resulting in the extortionist’s arrest by the District Attorney. Letterman continues on why he went to the authorities:
“I had to tell them how I was disturbed by this I was worried for myself, I was worried for my family, I felt menaced by this, and I had to tell them all of the creepy things that I have done that were going to be exposed.”
Dave then admitted to having sex with his staff members:
“My response to that is, yes I have. Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would. Especially for the women. But that’s a decision for them to make if they want to come public and talk about the relationships. I feel like I need to protect these people — I need to certainly protect my family.”
Dave has been married to Regina Lasko since March of this year and the two had dated since 1986. They have a 5-year-old son Harry.
Wow.
Although what he did was very wrong and completely disgraceful, we have to commend Dave for coming clean with the situation and handling it with the proper authorities.
We’re sure this an extremely embarrassing and difficult time for his family.
