It’s been getting less than stellar reviews from the critics, but the real testament of how bad Peter Sellars’ production of Othello truly is is the fact that audiences are up and leaving halfway through it!
Reports are revealing that the show, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman at NYU’s Skirball Center, is being loathed by audiences, with many leaving during the intermission, never to come hither again!
One patron who managed to stay to the second act actually admitted to seeing Sellars himself go up onstage “to urge those who’d managed to make it past intermission to occupy the now empty seats in the front of the theater — ‘Move up. Please move up. The closer you are, the better.’ ”
That’s pretty depressing. Imagine if you all had shelled out for Broadway?! Yikes!
