Anne Frank Captured On Film
Filed under: YouTubeThis is the only piece of film footage containing the legendary diarist Anne Frank in existence.
It was unearthed and given to her father in the 1950s from his neighbors. The video is very short and shows Anne leaning out the window of her Amsterdam home, watching a bride and groom on their big day. The clip has been kept at the Amsterdam museum, the Anne Frank House , but was released on YouTube in honor of the new Anne Frank Channel, which will feature videos and interviews about her life.
These images were captured only a year before Anne and her family were forced into hiding.
It's eerie and moving all the same time.

I live in Austria. It´s in the near of Germany. We learned so much about Anne Frank and Hitler. There are so sad and bad story´s. I hope nobody will forget what once happened .
What a lovely memory to keep. I think she was a very pretty girl and it was such a shame and waste to have killed her at such a yound age. How could Hitler do that to all these innocent people just because they believed in a different religion. Blonde hair and blue eyes=perfect to ol' Hitler who honestly wasn't that skweeky clean himself!
It's an extraordinary testament to her celebrity that Anne Frank remains such a viable industry. Many Jews fought bravely in the resistance movement and are unheralded. Not to mention the Jewish American and Allied soldiers who fought and died at Normandy and throughout Europe and the Pacific, but who remain anonymous to most of us. As blunt as it may sound, all the Frank family really did was hide in an attic. And not even their own attic! The attic of a Christian woman who might not otherwise have been targeted by the Gestapo. In other words, the Frank family put MORE people in harm's way.
It's not that I blame them. If Hitler were after me I'd probably run and hide in an attic too—I'm not too brave. All the SS would have to do to find me is follow the trail of diarrhea. But I wouldn't expect to made into such a hero for it. Or for books and plays and films and museums to be dedicated to my memory. Or for every seventh-grader in the United States to be writing book reports about me into the next century.
I wonder what Anne herself would make of all this hoopla, in light of the fact that so many true heroes of the Second World War never got their due. Would she be embarrassed by her father choosing to hide and tremble in an attic all those months while so many of his Jewish (and non-Jewish) brethren gave their lives trying to save him and his family?

well you didnt think it was a big deal when "perezito_is_an_asshole" said the bible doesnt promote violence. that is an inflammatory remark to me. since there are many passages in the bible that promote murder. and there are millions of people who have been killed because of those passages.
i was offended when The Pope denouced condoms in Africa. Starvation(from overpopulation) and STDs are epidemics that kill millions every year. I thought that was an inflammatory remark as well.
I might have strong thoughts about religion, but i would never kill someone who doesnt agree, which is more than i could say for a lot of religious people.

aww. its a great memoir. its just sad what the contents this young girl wrote about, but sadly that was life.
I lived in Germany for three years and got a chance to visit the museum situated in Amsterdam where she was hiding and I would recommend it to anyone going to Holland. Very sad..

Hi, it is very moving I have seen it before in the past. I went on holiday to Amsterdam in 2003 and we went to the house. It was very moving, there are pictures on the wall that she cut out and stuck on etc and also the actual diary is in a glass case to see.

3 - I had to set a few things straight. You have valid questions that need to be answered.
As for the Bible condoning violence. FALSE. That was the punishment for the laws back then…just like today people are executed for certain crimes. Its too bad that PEOPLE use those Bible passages to promote their own violent agendas.
As for the question if that sweet girl being Jewish and not Christian means she is in hell. Some people probably believe that. But there are many good people who lived before Christ even came along…like Moses and Noah. They certainly arent burning in a hell. The Bible says that the dead are consious of nothing, so that means they are not burning and suffering…that wouldnt be fair. Since God is love, you can be certain he isnt going to burn good people in hell. There is nothing a human can do in their short 80 years to so that can warrent them being burned forever and ever. Its a ridiculous thought. Look up the old Hebrew and Greek words translated as hell… and see what that word really means…
Anyway, I had never seen that video before and I am glad Perez posted it. Makes me think of not just her but all the people who had to suffer at the hands of Hitler.

Thank you for putting this on perez. I went to the house that she and her family had to hide themselves in Amsterdam. As many have said, it was very eerie. When I got upstairs I couldn't hold back tears. It is heavy with the Frank family's energy still. I saw the room where she pasted all of her movie star pictures on the wall and it made me so sad. I read her book in 8th grade and I didn't know I would be standing in the very rooms that she had lived some of her last days. I wish she knew of her legacy. Poor little girl.
Eerie. Kind of puts a different aspect to an already sad story.

I think everyone who gets a chance should go to anne frank house. It is amazing to walk through the same bookcase she did. It is horrible that people went through such horrible things and people now are continuing to go through such horrible things. I think we should all be thankful of what we have.

Thats really amazing… like spotting a ghost in the background of a video. Its really chilling to think how normal and peaceful everything looked… only knowing what was yet to come. Heartbreaking.

Of the many people who helped Anne Frank and her family, only one was sent to a concentration camp, and he survived. In fact, the main helper is still alive and turned 100 a few months ago.
Also, haven't you heard the quote: "one million deaths is a statistic, 1 death is a tragedy"? It's a way for kids that age to relate to someone, and realize that the holocaust victims were real people.

The posting now on youtube is sanctioned and is therefore newsworthy, I concede. Until I read the posts I had no idea of how many people were unaware of this footage, so its placement on this site is valuable for those who want to learn more about the young woman who has made the Shoah personal for so many. Lastly though I am quick to point out the lateness of Perez's posts and frankly believe he thought most of his readers were unaware of this material, I called the act of posting this a sort of Mitzvah…or act of human kindness. And until you have to try not to stare at your Grandmother's arm and the numbers tattooed there by beasts, you can frankly fuck off about me on this subject. Some of my family liveed it, many more died it and I have extensively studied it.

I've been to the Anne Frank house. It was very.. depressing, and hot. You just want to get out once you're in. It was in the 6th grade though, but I can remember it very well. We had to wait first for a very long time, and then we could go in a brick building that was new. You had to be quiet, and you could listen to those things about Anne Frank. After that, you could enter the real house. After the bookcase you entered the very, very warm house, and there wasnt that much light. You could see the rooms, and those were very, very small. I just couldn't understand that they could live for several years there. You saw the photographs on the wall of Anne's room. I think I liked that the most, and I also got the postcard of it. So after the house, we had a lesson about the house and Anne Frank. Even though I was young, I kinda liked it even though it was very short. I think Amsterdam isn't that special as many people think. It's very crowded, and sometimes it smells very bad. But they have good and many shops there, so i go there like 4 times in a year hahaha.
Well, i guess I wanted to tell my story about it. I liked the video. I'm sorry for the spelling mistakes.

3 - You have just done the very thing that you say I did… You have picked the ones you chose to take litterally. If you read the whole context of those you will see that those passages do not support a burning hell. Jesus was doing illustrations and metaphors.
Also, what I say doesnt imply that the Bible corrupt… I imply that many people's interpretations are corrupt. And they use what they want to fit their beliefs instead of fitting their beliefs to be in harmony with what the bible says. You are only using it to agree with what you believe. Look at Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10 then Psalms 146:4 then Ezekiel 18:4

3-What I dont get is why do you bring up the Bible passages that you do not believe in. what is the point? If you want to take that as litteral, that would mean that ONE drop of water would on the fingertip would bring relief to someone burning in hell. Also, that water wouldnt evaporate before it reached him down there…both make no sense. Also, that would mean all good people can fit at the bosom of one man, Abraham….again, it isnt logical… Read the entire chapter and you will see he was telling this story to prove another point… He did this all the time in the Gospels. In fact, the Jerusalem Bible, in a footnote says that it is a "a parable in story form without reference to any historical personage." Don't you see that the Bible is not condemning this little girl to that punishment. You have to use common sense 3! Be reasonable 3! I am done with this. Re: 3 – I once wrote a theme (in 7th or 8th grade I think) called "Is the Bible Bullshit?" due to the fact that rape is endorsed throughout the Good Book seemingly by God. What that got me was 2 weeks of extra religious classes thanks to the good Sisters and one pissed off Father Disciplinarian who called my grandparents (they raised me) and told them. He confiscated my paper the ASS. I wish I still had. All I can really remember him saying is 'aren't you a good Catholic girl?'. I was very young so I think I said 'Yes' because I was intimidated. NOW I'd say 'Fuck YOU Father'. Sorry for the rant-but your post brought back memories!
