Because you really want to have the backing of Congress when you make decisions about your acting career.
Nicole Kidman showed up on Capitol Hill this morning, acting as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Fund for Women and speaking with Congress to promote the International Violence Against Women Act. (It needs more funding.)
Subsequently, she delved into how Hollywood portrays women and how she won’t be taking anymore roles that “sexually objectify and demean women,”, though in the same breathe, she insists that Hollywood has done just as much good as harm to public views of women.
She continues on to say:

“I can’t be responsible for all of Hollywood but I can certainly be responsible for my own career. I am far from an expert, I rely on the people I’ve met to make the case,” she continued, adding that crimes like rape and domestic violence recognize ‘no borders, no race or class.’ …’In the real world, the laws go unenforced and impunity is the norm. We need the money.”

So it will be strictly a Lifetime movie career for you from now on, Nicole? That’s where all the strong women movies are at!
We kid. We kid.
We think she is doing a good thing, standing up for the rights of women. Keep it up!
