Aussie's Don't Like It When You Lipsync, Britney!

If this is the case, Australia is going to see a lot less American talent coming through their ports of call!
The folks of Australia are looking to pass a "name and shame" law that would require artists to claim ahead of time if they plan on singing live or lip-syncing through their performance. The news of this new system comes as Britney Spears arrives to perform 14 shows for the Aussies while charging upwards of $1500 for a ticket and will not be singing live!
Of course, we all know that she'll probably lip-sync, but folks down under think it is unfair to charge some extreme prices when patrons aren't getting a full "live" show.
Virginia Judge, the Fair Trading Minister and Minister Assisting the Premier on the Arts, said she would much rather people go see local talent than a costly "Mickey Mouse performance" :
"Let's be clear - live means live. If you are spending up to $200 I think you deserve better than a film clip. The NSW Government would be happy to look at options, such as a disclaimer on a ticket which would warn consumers a performance is pre-recorded."
You're missing the point lady - we already know they don't sing live, and we don't care! Brit-Brit's tour promoter down under, Steve Dixon, put it perfectly when responding:
"This is a pop spectacular, this is a showband show. You come for the experience. There is a lot to see about this show, there's nothing like this in the world. Britney Spears will entertain you, that's what people come for. We absolutely give them a show."
And it's true - she does put on quite a show!
But then again, we could see where some people would be unhappy.

if you're seeing britney spears, you know you're getting a lip-synch concert. if you're going to see someone like john mayer you expect live. if you're seeing britney spears, you expect lip-synching. thats just how it is. lip synching is an art in itself anyway. team britney!

I have loved Britney since the beginning, and I have been to each tour that came to the UK. I never once went with the expecation of hearing her sing live, I went for the spectacle and the dancing. I'd rather see her dancing well and lip-syncing than hear more live singing and not so much dancing coz she can't sing and dance at the same time. the fact that lip-syncing has become the norm is simply WRONG. i've been to, what is. in all likelihood, hundreds of concerts, and never seen a lip-syncher, but then again, i've seen performers like the stone, the who, stevie ray vaughn, csn&y - diana ross - you know, people with actual talent.
I agree with the Aussies… if you're going to go see a live show you pay the price for live…. but if the entertainer is going to cheat, then the price of the show should be substantially lower.
The lady has a good point. I think it's ridic to pay so much to basically go to a listening party rather than a live performance. I stay away from the performers that are unable to deliver the goods, like retard Brit Brit. If you already know that it will be lip-synched, than it wouldn't hurt to put a disclaimer on the tickets. Covers everyone and if people still choose to pay that much for the ticket, than they can't go back and claim unfair.

My beef isn't with the lip syncing or no lip syncing. My beef is with the PRICE of tickets nowadays for a concert. Ten years ago I'd see several concerts a year. Now I can't afford to see ONE they are all so ridiculously priced. I feel we should all BAN concerts till prices come back down. I shouldn't have to say to myself: Let's see…. see a concert or pay my mortgage for the month??…. hmmmm….

well there's a point that pink did almost 100 shows in australia earlier this year and the tickets weren't pricey not as much a Britney spears tickets where general admission was $150 or more IN A RECESSION but also Pink did perform live every single song and made a grand spectacle! and this is Britney's first time here so maybe this is the reason she has never made her way here!

Okay. If she were lip syncing full songs? I'd be pissed. But it's obvious the girl put on a spectacular show! It's nearly impossible to sing evenly when you're dancing around, jumping, swinging, running from different areas of the stage. I really wouldn't mind if at points that's she's doing a performance dance that she'd lip sync. It is nearly impossible to hit every note when you're body and breath may become labored due to the so called spectacular show she's giving! Quite being so hard on Britney! Yeah we all know Britney Spears never sings live and never will, because she obviously sucks singing live, and she may put on one hell of a show, but if people are gonna be paying that much money to see her, wouldn't you want to hear her actually sing? The whole point in going to a concert is to hear the entertainer sing live. I only go to concert where you actually hear live singing, because other than that, its a complete rip off.
I saw Britney in Perth tonight for her first Australian show and she was so good that I would pay to see her again and again - plus she did actually sing Everytime herself, that was definitely not backed by a pre-recording.
Re: lala nyc – FYI not all rock shows are completely live. Well known bands have admitted to using prerecorded guitars, keyboards, etc to enhance their sound as well as vocal harmony and backup vocal tracks. It's hard to replicate the sound sometimes that is created in the recording studio.

Sorry, but if you are paying that much for a ticket, you would think you know the artist and whether they are, indeed, a live performer or not. NO ONE buys a Britney ticket at any price believing she doesn't use back-up vocals in the very least. Same with Madonna. It is simply not possible to dance and perform the way they do and still have the capacity to sing at all. THEY ARE OUT OF BREATH! But, they do perform harder and greater than most, and that is what they are selling. If people want a singer, go see Ga Ga or U2 or Elton John or Leona or Kelly Clarkson. Don't see Asshat, Britney, Madonna or even Beyonce (whom truly sings A LOT, but also uses back-ups for enhancements when she's shaking hersel silly).

Not ALL pop acts lipsync. The Backstreet Boys perform live-and yes, that means on any given night, one of them will hit a sour note, or misstep a dance while singing the lead. That is what happens live. If you want a "perfect" performance out of someone who sings and dances continuously, then sign up for the lipsyncers ie Britney. There isn't anyone on the planet at this point that doens't know that Britney lipsyncs. If they want to pay thousands of dollars for it-so be it…..Me? I'd rather get a little less show, and more live–give me the BOys!!!!!!!

It doesn't take a lot of talent to lip sync through a show. If someone claims to be a singer as part of their act, (Britney) they should sing live. When I saw Pink sing live, and upside down on a trapeze, I thought, "There is no excuse for ANYONE anymore not to sing live." If artists aren't going to sing live at a concert (concert being the operative word) the tickets and promo should reflect that. Good for Australia! It's amazing that anyone would pay to see Britney….she doesn't even dance anymore!

I just got home from Britneys first concert in Australia and one word springs to mind- AVERAGE! The best part was Perez looking fabulous opening the show. There was zero interaction with the crowd, zero atmosphere, the people around me were chatting and not even paying attention. I paid $200 for my ticket and was left thoroughly disappointed. Myself and my friends think it's maybe because we saw Beyonce a few weeks ago so we were comparing the two. We went knowing that she lip syncs so that wasn't the problem. It was just a so so performance that would have been made better if she would of at least interacted with the crowd a little. The opening act DJ Havana Brown was a SEXC bitch who owned the stage.

my opinion is that..look..I've seen Britney spears live 3 times..twice during her onyx hotel tour, and i watched her HBO special on her dream within a dream tour…I then also saw her Circus tour this past year, and was extremely disapointed with the circus tour. She's always lip synched, but when she did in prior years, she put on this amazing show, and her dancing was impeccable, THAT HAS CHANGED, she is NOT BACK! Her dancing now SUCKS, and she just struts and poses! Her dances do all the work, she does NOTHING, I am a HUGE fan of Britney Spears, I idolized her when I was younger, but she is just plain Lazy now, and if shes not gonna go all out with her own dancing, then she SHOULD be singing, or she should lower her ticket rates!!!!!
Im Australian and I know that regardless of price, if ur buying a ticket to an artist such as brit brit (whom i adore) ur insane to expect her to sing live. Her fans know that she will not be singing live and that is not what we pay to see. There are artists that sing live and sing well live, and there are those who lip-sync. We all know what we are paying to see and what we are not and those who spend money on tickets with unrealistic expectations are IDIOTS.

I agree with telling the audience what they'll be getting. Calling something a "Live Concert" is a lie if the main attraction is lip synching. Calling something a "live dance performance" would be more accurate if the attraction is dancing live.
if you honestly think that Madonna and Beyonce don't use pre-recorded tracks during their live shows, you're dreaming. there are some artists that do sing live like Pink, but they're even starting to do shit like this on Broadway, which I think is wrong, wrong, wrong. the more untalented the performer or elaborate the stage show is, the more likely that there's lip-synching going on at some point.

Everyone is aware of the fact that Britney lip-synchs, including the people who buy the tickets to her show. If people are willing to pay that much, I say let them. They know what they are getting. I don't think there's any need to make her spell it out for them. Besides, she's known for her personality and overall performance, not her voice. If people are that concerned with real singing they're probably not going to go see Britney anyway.
