Say hello to the newest member of our family!!!
We just named him Teddy and he's our little teddy bear.
Actually, he's a mini Goldendoodle and we are madly in love!
We got him on Monday and he's almost eight weeks old.
Teddy is the little brother to our adorable Maltese, Coquito, who is getting older now (he's 12 ).
We had no idea what kind of doggy we wanted, but we knew we wanted to add one to our family and our mom's birthday was the perfect occasion to welcome him to the clan.
How'd we stumble upon a Goldendoodle?
We typed in "small" "cute" and "smart" into Google and they popped up!
Teddy will grow up to be about 20 lbs and even more adorable than he already is.
We got him at Southern Cal Kennels, Grade A mini Goldendoodle breeders.
We are just so in love.
Our little Teddy bear!

Congrats on your new addition. I have a full size goldendoodle who is 10 mos. old an they are just the cutest pups in the world…sometimes they are lucky they are that cute when they have their puppy moments! Have fun with Teddy!

Now tell me, off the 500+ comments so far, how many of you have actually been to a shelter in Los Angeles? If you have–like I have–you will know that they do NOT have a selection of cute puppies. Like I've read, there are massive dogs, pitbulls, and no "lap dogs" Yes, once in a while one comes in, but those are snatched up so fast you actually have to BID ON THEM when the shelter opens at 8am. Seriously, you have to bid and they can go up to $800. Don't believe me? Call the So LA Shelter. So leave Perez alone. I don't take him as a pitbull kinda guy and if he wants to buy a cute pup (whether at the shelter (remember, bidding) or breeder), let him be. So righteous? I dare you to go rescue one of those big dogs.

I have nothing against buying a dog from a REPUTABLE breeder instead of adopting, but there is no such thing as a reputable breeer that breeds so-called 'designer-dogs'. You really need to do your research. They aren't real breeds, and aren't bred to any standard, and more importantly, are bred for looks rather than health.

Because designer dog breeders are never reputable breeders. Breeding a new breed to a standard takes decades, not just throwing dogs that look cute combined together and seeing what happens. If only we could neuter ignorant people like we can neuter dogs.

I have tried and tried to adopt a small dog….have to have one under 25 lbs to no avail….I look on the humane society website every day….all they have to adopt are pit bulls/pit mixes!!! I have a child and can't risk a pitbull nor would I want one for myself!
He has every right to get this dog….it is a lifelong commitment to the pet….

I was just able to find hundreds of poodle mixes (otherwise known as mutts but often called "designer breeds") in your area. Most are young, all are looking for homes. I cannot believe that you would pay so much money for a glorified mutt that you cannot guarantee the temperament, look, or adult size with accuracy. Yes, it does cost money to adopt from a shelter or rescue group. However, they will often have a better idea (or at least no worse of an idea) than your "breeder" of how the dogs will actually be. I am appalled that you are even naming an irreputable, backyard breeder or puppymill on your site. I have removed you from my RSS feed even though I have been a loyal reader for a while. For your sake, I hope that your puppy does not have the health problems that plague poorly bred mutts.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BUYING FROM A BREEDER! I got my dog from one of the top Breeders in the country - if you get a good breeder, you will have a perfect dog - smart, playful, and absolutely amazing! A rescue dog is not for everyone - many times they are sick and don't live as long. And - most rescue dogs are not puppies. If you want a puppy, generally a breeder is the way to go. I would never buy from a pet store, and honestly, after the whole Ellen fiasco, I would never get a dog from a rescue organization when they can just take the dog back whenever the hell they feel like it!

There is something interesting that happens rhetorically when somebody buys a puppy . . . they say that they "got" a puppy or they "bought" a puppy or they "acquired" a puppy (per another comment on this page). What are the linguistic implications of saying I "adopted" a puppy? It is wonderful to hear Perez say that he considers this puppy a part of his family . . . but the vocabulary that attaches to the commerce of lives does not compliment the sentiment of family. Please understand that, as so many readers have pointed out, "family" can not be bought. Anybody considering welcoming a dog or cat into their family should visit their local shelter and meet somebody who really needs a home and some tenderness. Running a Google search to add a member to your family seems cold, and further evidences our human-society's belief that we have dominion over all other creatures.
The new puppy is adorable, but most likely inbred. Please do the research. Cats and dogs are oftentimes still gassed to death in horrifying, slow-process chambers. Stray and unwanted dogs and cats are often abducted by labs to do unspeakably cruel research. We can all see animal adoption as a way to do good and make a real change in a real life.

Goldendoodles aren't even recognized by the AKC. Its a type of dog that
you can more commonly find in a shelter. And most of these "hybrid" & "designer" dog breeders don't even care about the dogs. They're in it strictly for the money, theres nothing wrong with buying from a breeder. But there is something wrong with buying from a bad breeder.
Honestly $2500, you could have gotten a nice puppy from the shelter and donated the rest to a local dog rescue.

Wow Kristen, just how uneducated are you? First of all, adoption of a purebred dog is not impossible. Second, he DIDN'T buy a purebred dog! He paid $2,500 for a MUTT! Responsible & reputable breeders do not breed mixed breed dogs! Not only could have have saved the life a dog in a shelther…..he could have used the remaining $2,400 to donate to a worthy cause.
