Despite an impromptu appearance by Steve Tyler at one of Joe Perry’s solo shows a few days ago and his announcement that he wasn’t leaving the band, word from Joe is that the breakup is still on.
Joe told Rolling Stone magazine that the night of his gig in New York, he had no idea that Steve was at the venue, nor did he know that he was going to tell the crowd he wasn’t leaving Aerosmith. This was news to him, as he explains that the plans for Steve to leave the band have become very definite:
“There was all this commotion during our encore break and somebody said, ├óΓé¼╦£Steven is here.├óΓé¼Γäó I was like, ‘What?’…So he came up and sang and that was the last I saw of him…He (Tyler) wants to take two years off from the band. The rest of the band wants to keep on working. We have so many different options to fill up that time. Anything is possible at this point.”
We still don’t know if you can have an Aerosmith without Steve Tyler. You’re pretty popular Joe, but he is still the voice. And now it seems more like you guys are pushing him out, rather than him quitting.
What do you say to that, Joe?
