The Heroes TV star recently went on a mission to Japan to help save the dolphins. Unfortunately, she and a few of her activist friends got into a violent confrontation with some local fisherman determined to complete their annual slaughter.
The 18-year-old actress paddled out on a surfboard in an attempt to reach a pod of helpless dolphins to stop them from being driven into a nearby cove and killed.
But she and her fellow surfers were intercepted by a fishing boat before they could reach the dolphins. The fishermen used the boat's propellers to block their way and at one point struck out with a boathook.
It was an ugly and potentially life-threatening confrontation that lasted more than 10 minutes before Hayden and crew were forced to return to the beach.
An emotional Panettiere later spoke out about the incident.

This was the first I had heard about the disgusting slaughter of dolphins in Japan, and I am grateful that it was brought to my attention. I just emailed letters to the Japanese Prime Minister ans to the Ambassador, and it felt damn good! I made a donation also, but please send letters to the Japanese government officials. They need to know that the people of the world won't tolerate such inhumane treatment of animals. Go Hayden!!

I'm ashamed to be Japanese. My people are the world's # 1 consumers and purchasers of exotic or extinct animals and related products for the sheer thrill of purchasing them. I grew up with men who got a big thrill from the process of their slaughter. Japanese men have been barbarians and war mongers for centuries.

It is so sad to see those dolphins being slaughtered. I didn't realize that such a thing would be going on. Don't tell me that these intelligent, beautiful creatures are used for food. If you are honest there is no difference between a dolphin and a fish or any other animal that gets slaughtered for human consumption.
Just because they are cute and intelligent creatures doesn't mean they are worth more than any other.
I am totally against HUNTING and killing animals for sport, especially seals, dolphins, whales… killing them needlessly but if people in Japan want to eat them and it's part of their culture then it's none of my business and who am I (who are they) to just come in and tell them to stop doing it ??
I also think there are more important issues going on to do with animals and it's a bit weird that they singled out this one instance.
It's sort of like the people who object to killing dogs to eat. There really is no difference they are all animals.
All killing is barbaric and we don't like to see it but it has to be done. The fact is that not everyone is vegan and we will probably never see the day when most or all people are vegan (even vegetarian)

Who cares if it is their way to make a living. I can make a living by going to rob banks but I don't do that and they can just as easily not kill dolphins. Dolphins are one of the most intelligent mammals, that is why this is wrong, and that is why it's not as big of a deal to kill cows and other animals for meat. Some animals are just low on the food chain and that is what happens to them, but dolphins are far too intelligent to be treated that way. Obviously the fishermen know this because they hide behind curtains while they kill them.

The Dolphin population is controlled because overpopulation is affecting the amount of fish the fishermans produce. If you didn' already know, fish and other products from the ocean make up a good part of the Japanese diet. Those men had every right to be angry. Animal Rights groups are intruding their workspace, disrupting their jobs and giving them bad publicity all at once. Hayden and the other surfers very likely tresspassed onto their private ,sectioned off property. I wouldn' be surprised if the Driver of the van of protestors had a restraining order against him, why else would he hide his face??
People bitch and moan about dolphins being controlled and hunted, but fail to realize hunting wild game is considered a SPORT in the States and other parts of the world. There are plenty of small game hunters who are being paid by County officials to control the population of bothersome animals like raccoons and deer. Maybe more americans would shut the fuck up if they had the price and abundance of beef ,pork and other staples like bread be affected because of the over population of a 'cute' animal.

Humans were the worst creations for the planet, although there are those people who want to make a difference, it still would of been better for the environment as a whole if humans were never created.
