The Heroes TV star recently went on a mission to Japan to help save the dolphins. Unfortunately, she and a few of her activist friends got into a violent confrontation with some local fisherman determined to complete their annual slaughter.
The 18-year-old actress paddled out on a surfboard in an attempt to reach a pod of helpless dolphins to stop them from being driven into a nearby cove and killed.
But she and her fellow surfers were intercepted by a fishing boat before they could reach the dolphins. The fishermen used the boat's propellers to block their way and at one point struck out with a boathook.
It was an ugly and potentially life-threatening confrontation that lasted more than 10 minutes before Hayden and crew were forced to return to the beach.
An emotional Panettiere later spoke out about the incident.

All you racists here, I am Japanese and I know FOR A FACT that the majority of us don't eat dolphins, I'd never heard of people who eat them until I read about it here today. It's just a small group of fishermen in god knows where in Japan kill dolphins. (By the way, I don't even know where Daiji is because the poorly created documentary with a small amount of research didn't refer to the exact location.) And I'm very sad and shocked, I strongly feel that our government should take actions immediately. And yet some of you guys make the most offensive racist comments and some of them even bring up WWI and WWII. How low could you go, really?
Now somebody tell me who is better;
A) Ignorant racists who don't have a slightest clue of what they are talking about but think they are better than us ALL Japanese because their small brains can only "learn" things from a gossip site.
B) People like me who is actually ashamed of what the fishermen have been doing and getting their feelings hurt by those ignorant comments BUT never resort to fighting back with another racist comments.
I hope at least some of you guys will agree with me when I say that the answer should be B.

Unfortunatly Japan isn't maybe as educated about dolphins as we are. To those of us in a more civilized country(counties)these mamals are almost human like. To them, they are just fish. We had better not tell those fisherman that dolphins are the only other mamals besides humans who enjoy sex, or they will be trapping them to get it on.
Thank you Hayden for shedding light on this subject. I am appalled that Japan lets this happen and I went to the save the dolphins website and sent emails to the officials in Japan to let them know I would be boycotting all japanese products until they end this practice. If more people speak out, we can make a difference. I agree that people should be just as upset about what happens on factory farms here in America. I don't eat meat of any kind.

Excuse me, you will not get away with making a generalization of everyone in America. You can't group people into a category and say everyone is like that . In fact, it makes you ignorant and this is why the world is having wars. None of us can tolerate other people and respect their views. So many Americans get up every morning and read the news to inform themselves on what is happening in the world — in fact many of us like to know what is going on in the world and in politics! but to change the world is the problem.
This is awful and we need dolphins. When have dolphins done anything to harm us? they save people all of the time and bring them to safety. I think dolphins are extremely intelligent and this is incredibly cruel. What have we become?

As much as I hate to think about how other countries treat animals, a lot of it does have to do with culture. I think we all need to be a little more understanding about that. But the WAY they killed those dolphins was disgusting. No animal should be hung up and fighting for its life while its in a tank with other dolphins blood. And then tortured to death. The difference between this country and Japan is the US kills animals HUMANELY.

It was a sad thing to watch how they kill these dolphins I was just at Sea World yesterday watching the dolphins perform a nice show and to see this going on in the world its hard to watch

Response to #235- I'm sorry to inform you, but no animal is killed "humanely." Have you ever seen slaughterhouse videos? How about lab experiments done on animals? Yes, America is violent towards animals, but I agree that other countries are way more brutal, especially in China and other Asian countries. A lady from South Korea once told me, "If you see an animal in that country, its most likely running for its life." That goes for ALL animals around the world!!

This is so true, as much as I think dolphins are beautiful creatures what is the difference between killing a dolphin and say a cow. I applaud Hayden for fighting for what she believes in but who decided that this is somehow worse than killing any other fish or animal for food. I do feel sorry for the fisherman they have to earn a living. I wonder if they were "put to sleep" rather thatn killed in the brutal way we seen would that be any better in peoples eyes. I do object to the way they are killed.

In America cows and pigs are slaughtered in such a way that it's dead before it even has a chance to hit the floor. Not like the sick sadistic japs who slice its neck and let it bleed to death on the floor. Sometimes it'll spend 10 minutes in agony before dying. Japs are well known for their sadistic treatment of animals. Often they would torture the hell out of an animal just because they think it'll taste better.

To help save the dolphins lives;there should be a rescue team with authority going out to Japan and taking as many dolphins as possible.
That just made me cry like a bitch! How horrible…I never even knew it was like that for those poor dolphins!! "Just another fish"…Yeah F**KING right! Most Scientists will tell you that it is fact that Dolphins walked on the earth with us, until they evolved. There are even pictures of a dolphin still with what looks like feet!

The bottom line is that if THIS video bugs you, then get proative and donate, go vegetarian, do what you have to do to take part in the prevention of cruelty.
