Mental illness is the excuse being given to her camp to distract from her drug problem. ALot of the signs she exhibits do look like mental illness, but they are signs that can be attributed to drug use too. THis girl is an addict, and she wasn't a hot mess a couple years ago. This is all recent.

When did that become a form of neglect or abuse? Whether or not she DID take them isn't the issue. She wouldn't be neglectful if she choose to not take them trick-or-treating. However, in your brother's case — there is a diagnosis and i'm sure he is getting the proper medication and services he needs and his family's emotional support. in brit's case, there is NO diagnosis. she is NOT doing anything to improve her quaility of life for herself and children. brit is on her way to self-destruction. in brit's case, there is an imperative NEED for a court order diagnosis with mental health care services to get her with correct medications and in-depth therapy so she can be on the road to normalacy.

(also i wanted to tell everyone that addiction IS a disease, new research proves this. the study of kids whose bio parents were drug addicts but the kids were adopted as infants by parents who do not use drugs or alc, study shows the kids will have issues with drug addiction as teens/young adults. this is bc addiction is in your genetic makeup. some people are geneticly predisposed to become addicts.) KATE, you are right, she is NOT getting help. One thing I have learned with my brother's illness is that you need to have patience. Those dealing with a mental illness need time to accept it. Before they can accept it, though, there are relapses. You can have all the support in the world, but it comes down to the individual to want to get help, you can support, not force. My brother's illness causes the brain to not know that anything is wrong with them. It is called lack of insight and in his case, his reality was what was going on in his head just like our reality is what is what we experience. I am not trying to change the world but I really think people are not as caring with the mentally ill as they are with the physically ill. Which is why there is so much judgment. Thank god for meds!

The cover is a bit misleading i.e, "leaving her kids alone in the car while shopping" She left them in a car with an adult, not in the sweltering heat.

I am not really defending her actions - while she did leave them in the car while she went shopping - they were supervised by the parenting coach (although I don't exactly think it was the parenting coach's responsibility to babysit… that is another issue).

Anyone got the text for the Britney story? I know, it's a sickness to want to read about her downward spiral, I admit it. *hangs head* I don't revel in it, though I think she's brought some of it on herself with her refusall to grow up and admit she needs help for her addictions. I keep hoping maybe someday she'll hit bottom and begin to claw her way out of the wreckage, because she is a human and it's sad to see another person throw their life away like this.

I saw something today that makes Britney look like an (almost) fit mother. I was in the checkout line at Wal-Mart and there was a white teenage girl (looked to be about 15 or 16) and what I am presuming to be her very loud and foul-mouthed mother. Both were dressed really trashy, teenage girl was wearing a midriff top with a huge gut hanging out from beneath it. She was also holding onto a stroller and she had a newborn half-black baby slung over her shoulder. An older woman was in line behind them talking to the girl. I heard the older woman say "Well, that's an unusual name, how do you spell it?" The girl spelled out "D-A-Y-U-M-S-H-A-U-N." She pronounced it exactly as someone would say "dayum" as in "dayum she's hot" but with the name Shaun on the end. I almost dropped to the floor right there. The old lady said "I have never heard that name before" and the girl said "That's because it's original." I think they must have had a crack pipe in their mouth when they were naming it too. Poor kid doesn't stand a chance in life.
