Not only is Oprah Winfrey endorsing Barack Obama's presidential bid, she's going on the road to campaign for him!
Does Oprah's approval sway your vote in any way????
Posted: November 28, 2007 at 10:08 am

Heck no. Getting endorsed by Oprah is like getting endorsed by Donald Trump. She's an icon in the media…Almost freak-like (ala Trump). The only reason people would listen to her is because she has big money. Otherwise, she offers no wisdom or impact on the political hierarchy. Now, if she endorsed a fancy leather bag on her show, then that would have an impact and the women would go stir crazy over the bag and lay out big bucks for it. However, the american public is too prudent to fall for Oprah playing the RACE CARD in the presidential elections.
……
Oprah may be able to promote herself effectively as a prima donna in the media, but I don't think the reasonable people of this country will vote for B.O. (Barrack Obama), just because Oprah endorses him because he is of the same skin color.

It doesnt really matter either way..The majority of peoples vote doesnt count anyway, so dont vote, dont vote, dont vote!!
Nope. Just makes me want to vote for Hillary even more.
no it wont. Team Hilary!!!!!
What does Opra have to do with my vote for my president? Surely they jest!!
It's incumbent upon each individual to vote with their own values and conscience, and to take the time to do their own research on each candidate. With the various forms of media available including the net, there is now no excuse to vote blindly. It's still a free country, and as a citizen, Oprah can endorse anyone she likes. Sure, she holds sway, but so do the Clintons and one or two Repubs, and that's the way of American Politics. That's why lobbyists exist. It's still up to each individual to vote with their own values and conscience. She has always stepped up when she feels a responsibility to, as is her right; just as it's the right and responsibility of all other citizens to make sure their vote is counted whether or not they disagree with her. It's still up to each individual to vote with their own values and conscience.
If I were less convinced of him, she might sway me the OTHER way. Cannot stand her, but will still vote for him.
does she even know where he stands in helping the country or is she just seeing black?
The Red Sox win the World Series then Barack Obama wins the President?….hell has frozen over.
Re: en par – Well, then, enlighten us all since you are quick to insult everyone on the blog. Easy to hide behind a generic, all encompassing dig.
Ron:
You have NO IDEA how strong the AMERICAN PEOPLE are. There may be many different opinions, & different ideas on how to run OUR COUNTRY, but in the end we ALL STAND TOGETHER (9/11 ?). If WE were ever in danger from anything evil, we would hold hands & FIGHT for OUR COUNTRY - TOGETHER. Americans are hard headed, opinionated, & strong - but that's why we are powerful. We have the FREEDOM to be different. Bring on China baby, we can HANDLE it. AMERICA IS STRONG, no matter what anyone sees, thinks, or hears. We will always UNITE. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

no, i'll still vote republican
Absolutey not.
I HATE THAT PHONY BITCH AND WILL DEFINITELY NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA.
Yes it does - It sways me NOT to vote for him - Good Job OW
Absolutely Not! In fact, all it has done is make me like her EVEN LESS. Unfortunately, she is an extremely revered public figure…this gives her a huge responsibility! She is completely abandoning it with this gesture.
I never did give a crap about oprah.
not at all. the only reason she's endorsing him is b/c he's black. it's so obvious, and that is not a reason to endorse someone. if barak was white, she wouldn't be endorsing him.
Oprah will turn it into an ALL BLACK caucus. Oprah can sell handbags, books, her show and even turn little italian chicks into media darlings, but her presense in the national scene, trying to get a black elected into office will never work.
—–
She'll turn the presidential election into a black v. white presidential election. If Oprah was endorsing a candidate purely on the issues, she would endorse Hillary hands down. They side on basically all issues (including feminism and lesbianism), whereas, with Obama, she collides with on many issues (including homosexuality - where Obama stated that he has questions about). Oprah is endorsing Obama simply because he is black and we don't elect people because they are black. We elect Presidents because of what they stand for…..
Maybe the Big O will give away a bunch of shitty cars to voters. I liked Obama until I realized he keeps saying the same shit day after day nothing ever new just the old stand by: I did not vote to give Bush authorization to invade Iraq–No shit stupid you were not even a U.S. senator at the time of the vote. Obama is a fraud plain and simple!!!!
Most of you morons can't even form a complete sentence, so I love your criticism.
She is supporting him, just as other celebrities support their favorite candidates. This is similar to the way politicians support other politicians. Why do you find it so offensive? He is an excellent candidate. Why shouldn't he be accepting the support of someone who holds so much sway?
Do you tell white candidates to turn down possible support for their campaign? No! When our idiotic fearless leader throws his support to a Republican do you say "If he had such a good campaign, why does he need W?" No!
You pathetic people may not be ready for a black president, but I certainly am.
Team Obama!
Oprah-Phony. End of story.
"Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama, was born in Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black Muslim from, Kenya, and Ann Dunham, a white atheist from Kansas.
His parents divorced at age two. His father returned to Kenya.
His mother married Lolo Soetoro, a radical Muslim From Indonesia.
When Obama was 6 years old, they relocated to Indonesia.
Obama attended a Muslim school in Jakarta.
He also spent two years in a Catholic school.
Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim.
He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school."
Obama's political handlers are trying to make it appear that Obama's connection to Islam came via his father, and that this was temporary at best.
Obama Sr. returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any influence over his son's education.
Lolo Soetoro introduced his stepson to Islam.
Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta. Wahabism is the radical teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world.
Since it is politically expedient to be a Christian when seeking major public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background.
The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level."
RON PAUL 2008!!!!!
NO - if anything I am pushed away by the BIG “O”.
No, not really but Baracks public speaking skills and what he stands for has my vote! =)
Oprah is far more politically savvy than Barb Streisland. In fact, she must be one of the most influencial women in America, certainly the most influencial African-American. I'd vote for Obama anyway, but yes I do think Oprah knows what she's talking about and many millions of Americans listen to her.
Re: Al –
He's mixed race and of dual heritage, so he's not only Muslim but Christian as well. However, I think it's fair to say he is very secular. Does he pray five times a day? Fast for Ramadan? Only eat with his right hand? I bet not.
_
Don't you think that a man with such a diverse background and the wealth of cultural understanding that comes with being of mixed heritage would be an ideal President of such a large and culturally diverse country?
_
TEAM OBAMA!
She doesn't support his politics, she supports him because he's a black man (who's trying to be white, just like she wishes that she is white!)
.
.
Oprah is a CON ARTIST! Let us not forget of "Ape-rah's" past as a promiscuous YOUNG teenager who was "supposedly" raped…this alleged "circumstance/rape" was never verified legally - at least not to the public arena!…"her" story was just accepted because she vocalized it - she victimized herself in order to be accepted by the sympathetic viewing public. I personally think the persona she's CREATED for herself is completely fabricated…especially since she promotes herself as this ethical and moral standard that all should aspire to. She promotes segregation, publicly abuses and exploits the needy, and associates with those whom she can use to propel herself ahead in all aspects of her livelihood!!!
I won't decide until Tyra Banks and Ricki Lake announce who they're supporting.
Re: LawGrrl –
First of all, to vote for someone just because they are black is absolutely ludicrous. That's what Oprah is doing by throwing her support for Barrack. The Clintons have done more for the blacks in this country than most Presidents in the last 200 years. Hillary, for one, has been a staunch supporter of black issues since her days as a student. In fact, wasn't Bill on her show just recently?
Barrack has done nothing in comparison for the black issues. At any rate, we will see that Oprah is simply endorsing Barrack because he is black and that will do more damage to his campaign than good. Oprah and Hillary have more in common politically and the American public hates race baiting….which is what Oprah is doing.
No, Oprah will not sway my vote.
Barak Obama has been ALWAYS been my candidate!
Why wouldn't EVERYONE be swayed by Oprah's choice for President.
She singlehandedly chose who should run her school in Africa.
And we know how well that turned out.
I liked Obama but now I am having serious second thoughts.
It should never be forgotten that Oprah was one of the first on television to start beating the war drums to "liberate" Iraq. There's no doubting all the good work she's done but a charitable mind is not a political mind. Take it with a grain of salt and do your own election research.
Just the opposite. Oprah is endorsing him because he is black, not because he is the most qualified candidate. If a white celebrity would endorse a white candidate based on race…well, you get the picture. We will never be color blind…
Re: april –
"Stand together"? Take a look at the comments posted on this board itself where multiple people have shown how rascist and small-minded they are.& if it takes "danger from any evil" to make you "hold hands" and fight together or whatever, why dont you just pause for a moment and think about why exactly people even do "evil" things to you - "hard-headed and optionated" you may be, but many a time, those are the things that get you in midst of trouble in the first place.
remember when oprah did the pro-iraq war show? funny, people don't talk about that at all. It was pro-bush, pro-invasion and she absolutely slammed a woman in the audience who DARED to call it propaganda. oprah is powerful and smart AND she really believes her own shit. she is just a fallible human like everyone and it would behoove her and her syncophants to remember that.

i wasnt going to vote for him before.. im not going to vote for him now
No, not in any way at all. Oprah is too self important.
No, not in any way at all. Oprah is too self important.
Sadly this will probably sway quite a few votes. A lot of Oprah's viewers are quite obsessed with anything she approves of, endorses or even mentions! Perfect example is Josh Groban's CD!! However, she is a chat show host, not a politician and this is something she does not need to get involved with.
Personally, there is not way in hell that this 'chat show host' will sway my vote! Hilary all the way!!!
NO. Too much already. She's putting her name on everything and acting like anything she says or does is the right thing, no matter. She's become tiring and trite.

um, fuck no, seems as though she supports him because he is black? that's great politics
No. This endorsement is all about black…not bests.
…we will never be color blind, not because whites don't want it, but because blacks don't want it.
when will politicians figure out that celebrity endorsements are the kiss of death? Now that she is backing him (obviosly because he is black) I am now crossing Obama off my list. I wont vote for him now.
It won't sway my vote… but I'm glad she's doing it. I'm a conservative, but I think Obama is likely a genuine person who wants to do good. So anything that helps to defeat Clinton is fine with me. I think she is possibly the least genuine person ever to walk the earth.
no way, oprah is overrated …the only interesting candidate is Ron Paul — but he doesn't have a chance!
Now I don't know i he will get my vote. Thanks a lot Oprah!
Vote Obama, regardless of Oprah! At this point, he seems to be the best candidate, and whether or not Oprah is on team Obama makes no difference to me… he is the best candidate.
YES! I love Barack!! Not because Oprah endorses him, but it certainly confirms my beliefs about him– he's an awesome guy! People should really look into his policy matters more- it can help that Oprah likes him, but don't let her make up your mind for you.
Nope.
Hillary and backseat Bill will rule for 8 years and the world will be a better place.
Thank you, drive through.
um, she should take care of her media empire and make sure no more kids get molested at her school.
Unless she wants to become a political consultant.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No way. Oprah is not always right. She thinks she is bigger than she really is.
HOW MUCH LONGER UNTIL APE-RAH STARTS SELLING STEAK ON QVC???…APE-RAH & TRUMP ARE MEDIA WHORES WHO'S THINK THEY CAN DO NO WRONG, AND THAT ALL THEY DO IS SUPERIOR TO EVERYONE ELSE!
HELL NO
Not really…electing a president is a little different than following her book of the month pick.
Re: Al – Mudslinging is beneath you. It's beneath everyone.
Distortion of the facts is an age-old game, and I think the public are on to this with the help of the internet. Obama is a fine candidate, but not my personal pick.
She has a HUGE fan base and has turned little known books into cash cows for their authors, so I'm sure Oprah's endorsement will help him tremendously!
Re: JEWISH MAN – Talk about 'yer promotin' stereotypes. With your identifying handle, someone could go there too, but I won't, Lol…
OPRAH HAS PRETTY MUCH NEVER HAD A SHOW WITH A BIT OF EDUCATION. ALL OF A SUDDEN !!!! AN AFRICAN AMERICAN IS RUNNING, RUN OPRAH RUN.
OPRAH, ALL YOUR DOING IS MAKING AFRICAN AMERICANS LOOK BAD.
HANG IT UP OLD LADY. HERE'S AN IDEA FOR YOUR RETIREMENT, HELP OUT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ! WALK ONE BLOCK IN THE WINDY CITY AND LOOK AT "OUR" HOMELESS.
YOU ARE THE MOST BLINDED PERSON ON TV.
Re: shannon – Very on point and astute of you to mention here. She does go off on tangents, and has had to do some backpedalling on occasion. She wields some clout, but I don't consider her to be a very deep thinker on occasion as her shows don't require it, and are time limited and are more geared to the middle of the curve, so the line of thinking stops at the end of the hour. I'm sure she expands her views on her own over time after her shows end, however.
OH HELL NO. IT makes me want to run far far away and vote Republican. Which I was going to do anyway, Oprah is stupid!
NO!!!
And um, Dear Oprah:
Why are you on the cover of EVERY ONE OF YOUR OPRAH MAGAZINES????
re=977892]Re: LawGrrl[/re]
LAWGRR—- RE READ WHAT YOU WROTE!!!!!
DUMB SHIT HEAD!
BARAK AS NICE AND REASON DRIVEN AS HE IS, WILL BE A MERE PUPPET AT THE HANDS OF WHITE CORP.
KUSENICH IS THE ONLY ONE THAT IS FOR THE PPLE.
Re: LawGrrl – Here's why it's offensive to me…..Oprah has NEVER backed a candidate, not publicly. Yes, there are plenty of celebs who do this….but the truth is most of them do it at each election….she did a show with Obama (a few years ago)..long before he announced he would run for President….and on that show she said "A black President would be refreshing, what this country needs"…that immediately told me she was mostly backing him for that reason alone. I actually think he's not a bad candidate at all, I think he would make a good President, not sure he's the best candidate tho..he really hasn't done that well in debates, walks around ALOT of important questions. It doesn;t offend me at all that he's black….I could care less what color or gender…..but people backing him for THAT reason…is dangerous.
I just dont think he has enough experience in International/Global Policy, at least Hilary Clinton has Bill Clinton to guide her if needed. I like Ron Paul also.
Borak would make a good Vice President tough? Actually maybe Richardson better.
o can't think 4 every1 in america, can she?
I feel she gives bad advise from bras that are way too tight to plastic surgeons. It won't influence me at all.
Go Barack! He has my vote.
no i hate oprah shes stupid i like ellen degeneres WAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY better
Oprah has been supporting Obama since before he decided to run for any of you who don't just talk out of the side of your necks and want to play the race card because its the most simple-minded and shallow rebuttle to come up with. He was on her show as a senator and she glorified him for being a well-educated, honest, family man who stands his ground. Everytime someone does well you have some simple-minded idiot down-playing what they've worked hard for and making excuses for why they're a success and deserve to be where they're at in life. the fact that he's black is irrelevent and if anything as an African-American, we all feel that Oprah actually caters and kisses more white ass than anything. She stands behind him because of wht he's accomplished and stands for. If she stood behind Hillary, you'd have the same sort of assholes saying that she's only doing it because she's a woman. finally, as far as the pledge goes, depending on your spirituality and/or religion and your interpretation of the Bible, its stated in there that you shouldn't pledge your allegiance or faith in any symbols or men besides God. Sort your lives out people.
NO WAY.. with or without Oprah. a black man can be our next president!
Once Oprah jumped in, WE ALL KNOW IT'S A BLACK POWER THING NOW. I never liked Barrack anyway, not because he is Black, but because I've seen him on his talks and he says the same thing over and over again. I OPPOSED THE IRAQ WAR AT THE BEGINNING AND HILLARY DIDN'T.
——-
I think Oprah will turn off a lot of voters and Hillary already has the women vote. Oprah is one helluva talk show host, but she isn't a barometer of what makes a WORLD LEADER.
yeah actually……for some weird reason it does. and i don't even watch oprah
1st of all I make my own decision. I think those that let her sway your vote. Well those people are clueless. She can sway me not to want to hear about Obama………. Only thing I will do is continue to be an Angel and help others…………
I make My own decisions & I wouldnt sit there and hang on her every word, unlike some people. People who let Oprah sway their vote in my opinion have no clue! The only thing i will continue to do is be an angel and help others, but her stance on this whole issue speaks volumes needless to say I dont watch her anymore. No thank you…
RON PAUL 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RON PAUL 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!RON PAUL 2008!!!!!!!!!!!! VOTE RON PAUL AND REGAIN OUR AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, not at all.
As a star I think it is unacceptable that she is using her fame to influence politics. Hollywood stars should not influence the american public. There purpose is to entertain not lecture us on who to vote for.
are you for real. she should keep her mouth shut it will hurt him
i live in iowa and have seen all the canidates more than once. obama is by far the best.
After the death of Kanye West's mother and the fact that Oprah had Mrs. West's doctor on her show (without a thorough backgound check of the doctor), I don't accept anything Oprah endorses. I would not vote for anyone or anything based upon Oprah's recommendation.
I think Oprah should stay in the Studio and do what she does best. She is using her 'celebrity' dangerously to influence people, whom some don't know any better. She should be educating and not endorsing. If Obama should become our president, where will be Ms Winfrey be when he f#$ks up?
I do not think celebrities should endorse political candidates but that is only my humble opinion. I like to vote for a candidate based on my own values, not someone else's idea of who the best candidate is. Although Oprah thinks she can make a difference, it is up to the voting majority to decide. Is America ready for a black president or a woman? That is the real question. Let's see whether Oprah is up to the challenge of placing the first black president in the White House. Oprah thinks low enough of Obama that she thinks he cannot make it without her and that in itself is a very sad story. The Oprah factor will be a hindrance in Obama's campaign. It appears that when it comes to politics, people will make their own opinion. As much as I love Oprah, I still like being myself. Some of her money in my bank account would not hurt a bit but I do not want to be/look/live/sleep with Oprah. I do admire her success, her fame and fortune but I think she should stick to entertainment and use her money, influences and resources for charity, not for politics. Most people bet that Obama will not become president, even if he wins the party's nomination. I will hope that he wins neither if only to prove that celebrities endorsement do not mean anything. Obama lacks substance as a presidential candidate. So far, his speeches are used to denigrate his major contender and that has not impressed me at all. He needs to prove himself and not step on someone else to win.
Oprah could not convince me to vote for a dogcatcher, much less Barack Obama. I so do not trust his ties to the Muslim world. And he wont even salute our flag, during a public ceremony. Cant have that in a president.
SHE SUCKS! SHE COULD NOT SWAY ME FOR ANYTHING!
OK PEEPS THIS IS JUST ANOTHER REASON WHY BARACK OSAMA OBAMA SHOULD NOT!!! BE PRESIDENT
OPRAH SECRETLY HOPES OBAMA WILL WIN AND HE WILL CHOSE HER AS HIS VP
BAD BAD BAD NEWS WILL COME FROM THIS OPRAH YOU SUCK
HILL IN 2008 YEAH
NO WAY does Oprah change my vote. She is a bigger racist than most out there.
I WOULD NEVER vote for him and I certainly do not give a shit what Oprah thinks. She should worry about taking care of what's going on in her schools in Africa. Whore.
Dumb….. dumb are the Americans that will vote for Barack, Hillary OR even Edwards! Mitt Romney all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TEAM MITT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: gigi – you state "is America ready for a black president or a woman? That is the real question". The real question shouldnn't be about whether its a black man or a woman as president, the real question is who is better qualified. You americans need to get over the black and woman factor and just vote on merit, smarts and who is best of the job.

Everyone has the right to be passionate about their political views, including Oprah. As a resident of Illinois, I would think Oprah would be somewhat knowledgable on Obama.
Oprah knows her show sells books and such. I would hope most Americans are educated enough, to put more research into their vote than watching an Oprah show.
I hope Oprah doesn't affect votes for Obama in a negative way. I think Barak Obama and Joe Biden are the best candidates, and I also think Bill Clinton was a great prez.
