Tameka Foster is talking to Essence magazine and ranting about the public's perception of her.
She says:
"We (black women) don't like ourselves. If I were Hispanic, Usher would have the sexiest wife alive. If I were mixed, he'd have the sexiest wife alive. But he has a black girl, and it's like, 'She's horrible and she's ugly!' "OK, maybe I don't fit the cookie-cutter standard - 25 and a size two - but this is who he loves. There are women getting raped in Darfur, young girls being turned out every single day right here in Atlanta. We have bigger issues to worry about than two people in love with each other".

It's true, folks. I am an African American woman and everything she said is true. The cookie-cutter standard: 25 and a size 2 is a bit misleading, though. The reality is that in our culture, the lighter your skin, the better. If you've got light skin, the other rules don't apply (meaning, nobody cares if you aren't exactly a size 2 or 25). Ever seen that Spike Lee movie, the one Don Imus referenced? Well, it's true. There are stark divisions within the black community: lighter skinned women being the "yellowbones" or "redbones"…they're like grade-A beef. And, darker women, well, they're the other thing you can, unfortunately, be when you're black.
And, she's right. Many of the predominately black blogs on the web…well, the readers are so horrible and it's obvious self-hate. They can't stand the site of her, I mean, REALLY. Some claim to be sick to their stomachs. Now, beauty is relative but everybody knows there's hardly anything about a healthy person that could make one "sick to his/her stomach". She's absolutely right, they can't stand seeing themselves, they'd much prefer it if he married Beyonce or even Jordan, as long as she isn't grassroots.
