Former 'Bachelorette' Contestant Tyler Gwozdz Dead At 29 After Suspected Overdose

Tyler G. Bachelorette dead overdose

One of Hannah Brown’s former Bachelorette suitors had died.

According to reports, the body of Tyler Gwozdz (above) is at the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office. His date of death is listed as January 22, a week after the Boca Raton PD say they responded to a 911 call for a “medical overdose” involving Gwozdz on January 13.

The 29-year-old, who competed on Hannah B.’s season of the hit ABC reality show, was taken to a hospital and admitted to the ICU, where he stayed for a week and was listed in critical but stable condition. The department added the case is “an active and ongoing investigation,” but the cause of death is a suspected overdose, according to TMZ.

The outlet reports that during the 911 call, a woman told dispatchers the reality star might have taken heroin. The caller was frantically trying to get into a bathroom in which Tyler had locked himself; eventually, the woman broke through the door and turned him on his back before an ambulance arrived.

Tyler was briefly on season 15 of the dating competition — but was mysteriously sent home after three weeks and a one-on-one date with Hannah, after which he received a rose. The reason for his removal was never disclosed, with Brown only saying:

“Tyler G. had to leave, and that’s upsetting, because I really enjoyed my date with him.”

After his removal, Brown told ET the date was “really good” and applauded Gwozdz for being “calming and nurturing.”

However, a Reddit thread painted a much different picture of the aspiring psychologist. Right before filming began, an anonymous poster claimed to know two people who went to high school with Gwozdz and allegedly called him an “extreme misogynist,” with one claiming he once “spit on” a girlfriend during a breakup.

Fans believed these claims are what led production to remove Gwozdz from the show. Tyler later spoke out about the thread, however, and dismissed it as “totally unsubstantiated rumors.” He wrote in an email to Refinery29:

“I continue to have faith in my journey and in a purpose for everything that’s happened to me in my life. Above everything else, I am a son to my mother. She raised me to be better than these sort of baseless accusations. The rumors are so far out of the realm of my personality and values that it seems silly to waste time denying, but I suppose I will for the record. BUT I will be alright.”

He went on to explain the reason for his departure wasn’t aired in order to respect his privacy, and that he came to the decision to exit the show with producers, adding:

“[S]omething that I’ve come to realize… [it] is the best decision that could’ve been made.”

According to Cam Ayala, another rose-seeker on Brown’s season, producers told the contestants it was “in the best interest for Hannah and for Tyler for him to no longer be here.”

Bachelor Nation staple Colton Underwood also weighed in on Tyler’s exit, telling ET:

“I’ll say if there’s a guy that was removed because of production, it was probably something that they didn’t want out there.”

Our hearts go out to his loved ones.
