On the 12th day of Perezmas, pop culture gave to us…

12 BRUTAL celebrity breakups!

Love is patient, love is kind… until it’s impatient and nasty. As we know, many Hollywood relationships end in dissatisfaction and heartbreak — and this year proved to be quite a wrecking ball for many beloved celeb couples!

We’ve said goodbye to OTPs that have been together for nearly a decade, and couples that have been hooking up for mere months.

No matter the span of time, however, the death of any celeb romance is tragic; so let us mourn the losses of these once loving relationships…

Liam Hemsworth & Miley Cyrus

The on-again-off-again romance between the Wrecking Ball singer and Last Song actor swung back to “off” mode on August 11, when news broke that the longtime couple had split less than a year after finally tying the knot.

Sources told E! News the couple “were drifting apart” and had been “trying to make it work for months.” But, alas, they just had to keep on movin’ their separate ways. A rep for Miley quickly confirmed news of the split, telling fans in a statement:

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

Miley’s “process” involved climbing onto formerly platonic lady friend Kaitlynn Carter, who the songbird was spotted making out with in Lake Como in Italy just a day after the news of her breakup with Liam broke.

The Disney darling and Brody Jenner‘s ex didn’t last longer than a #HotGirlSummer, though, and Miley quickly moved on to fellow singer Cody Simpson.

With Miley going back to the city lights, Liam, per her instructions, slid away to the shores of Australia, where he spent months hanging out with his family, surfing, and eventually finding a new love interest in actress Maddison Brown.

According to reports, Liam and his new girlfriend have been laughing at Miley and Cody’s over-the-top Instagram PDA, suggesting he and Miles won’t be getting back together, as they’ve done in the past. Sadz!

Brody Jenner & Kaitlynn Carter

Weeks before Kaitlynn was spotted locking lips with Miley, news broke that she and her “husband” had ended their five year relationship — which was easy to do, seeing as they weren’t technically married in the first place. While The Hills: New Beginnings stars pulled out all the stops for a wedding in Bali last year, they never actually finished getting their marriage legalized in America.

It’s not totally clear what caused their relationship to go sour. A source claimed Kait wanted to make their union official and wanted a baby, but Brody did not, while a separate source noted:

“The show didn’t help.”

Insiders also said the couple split up a while before the news broke — which makes sense, as they both quickly moved on to other love interests.

Kait, like we said, was quickly seen on Miley’s arm, while Brody began dating 22-year-old model Josie Canesco. (Neither rebound relationship lasted long.)

Unlike many exes, however, it appears the two are still on good terms. When Kaitlynn and Miley were still together, they sent Brody a joint present for his birthday: a gift box from marijuana dispensary Lowell Farms, complete with a weed bouquet.

Adele & Simon Konecki

On April 19, Adele‘s representatives Benny Tarantini and Carl Fysh said in a statement to the Associated Press that she and Simon Konecki were breaking up after more than seven years together.

The 30-year-old Grammy winner and 44-year-old entrepreneur-philanthropist met in 2011, and she first addressed their relationship in a since-deleted post on her blog around January 2012. Five months later, she announced they were expecting a child together — and went on to give birth to son Angelo on October 19, 2012.

The couple have since lived a quiet life in her native London and Beverly Hills, where they bought a home together in 2016. Despite their private relationship, however, there were a few signs the pair were headed for splitzville over the past year.

Since last June, the songstress has been seen out on the town without her husband, attending concerts and events with her famous pals instead. In 2018, she joined Taylor Swift backstage during her Reputation stadium tour, and surprised Drake several months later by giving one of his concerts a rave review.

Earlier this year, Adele attended one of Robyn’s concerts in El Lay and posted a video of herself singing along to the star’s 2010 hit Dancing On My Own.

A month later, the Brit was photographed heading into a New York City recording studio in an all-black outfit and, tellingly, without her wedding ring on.

Adele and Simon were last photographed together in January, while attending Elton John‘s Farewell Yellow Brick Road concert in El Lay. Her reps said the couple were “committed to raising their son together lovingly.”

Wendy Williams & Kevin Hunter

It was both an empowering and disorienting year for Wendy Williams. The daytime diva filed for divorce from her husband Kevin Hunter in April after over two decades of marriage, and went on to cut ties with him professionally amid the birth of his alleged love child with Sharina Hudson, his alleged mistress.

Not only was Hunter axed as executive producer of The Wendy William Show, Wendy dissolved The Hunter Foundation, the non-profit they founded together in 2014 aiming to help addicts.

While both parties remained tight lipped for a few weeks, Hunter eventually broke his silence on the cheating scandal in a statement to People, confessing he was “not proud of my recent actions.” He explained:

“I am going through a time of self-reflection and am trying to right some wrongs. No matter what the outcome is or what the future holds, we are still The Hunter Family and I will continue to work with and fully support my wife in this business and through any and all obstacles she may face living her new life of sobriety, while I also work on mine.”

The demise of their relationship certainly took a toll on Wendy. Prior to their split, the star was residing in a sober living home and eventually relapsed amid rumors of his alleged infidelity. Following their breakup, however, things started to look up for the talk show host: sources on her show said the star had a new pep in her step and was enjoying her newly single life.

As for their son, Kevin Jr., the 20-year-old has seemingly yet to make amends with his father. As we reported, the duo got into a heated altercation over the summer, and a few punches were reportedly thrown. Wendy, meanwhile, claims to be on cordial terms with her ex. Back in August, she said on SiriusXM’s Sway in the Morning:

“I want to be friends with Kevin. I mean, and not because we have a son but because that was real love. I still love him just not in that way… I still have love for him and I wish him the best in his new life with his new family.”

Hannah Brown & Jed Wyatt

A Bachelor Nation pairing ending in a breakup? Shocking, we know. But, believe it or not, things did NOT end well for Jed Wyatt after he (temporarily) won the heart of Bachelorette star Hannah Brown.

As fans will remember, Wyatt sparked backlash following reports he was in a relationship when he went on the popular dating show. Back in June, musician Haley Stevens told People she was in a serious thing with the Nashville native for four months before he left to film the ABC series in March.

She told the outlet:

“We spent the night together the night before he headed to LA. He told me (the show) was just an obstacle and we’d be stronger on the other side because of it… He said, ‘It’s probably not going to happen, but it’s a huge opportunity. I’m only doing this for my music.’ He wanted a platform… He said he only wanted to be top five… to be a major player so that it would be beneficial.”

Oh, he’s a major player alright. Stevens said she and Wyatt enjoyed a romantic getaway to the Bahamas, where they both said “I love you” for the first time, after Wyatt learned he would officially join the cast in February.

As fate would have it, he ended up earning the final rose from Hannah B., and the two were seen enjoying their engagement — until his past came to light (in dramatic fashion, obvi):

In the live finale, Hannah announced she and Wyatt were no longer together (to a rousing round of applause from the audience!) and eventually asked out the runner-up, Tyler Cameron. Hannah and Ty didn’t go the distance either, but at least the hapless Hannah came out the other side of her Bachelorette experience stronger.

Irina Shayk & Bradley Cooper

The beautiful couple of four years went their separate ways back in June, after a flurry of rumors that Bradley Cooper had taken his on-screen romance with his A Star Is Born co-star Lady GaGa off-screen. Both Coop and GaGa denied this romance; however, a source told to People that Bradley grew “emotionally absent” during the filming of the musical romance flick.

The source explained:

“They tried to save the relationship, but it had changed. Since Bradley and Irina have always been very private about their relationship, few knew there was really for sure something going on.”

The two had always been very private about their relationship. Shayk told British Glamour months before their breakup:

“I have a lot of friends who share a lot of their personal life on Instagram or social media, very publicly. I admire it and I think it’s great—but I think it’s all about personal choice. Because my work requires me to be out there, I just decided my personal life will be quiet. That’s why it’s called personal, because it’s something for you and your family, and I feel happy with it.”

While the couple handled their split as privately as their relationship, there are a couple things we do know. Shayk was the one who called things off, as a source told Entertainment Tonight:

“Recently Irina decided enough is enough. She didn’t feel she was getting the level of commitment she wanted, and the endless fighting made their life unbearable. They are very different people, and once they realized it was the baby that was holding them together, it was time to call it quits.”

We also know the pair have been amicably co-parenting their 2-year-old daughter, Lea de Seine Shayk Cooper. So, it sounds like Bradley was just too focused on his work and not enough on his wife. (At least that’s the narrative they’re pushing!)

As for the GaGa romance rumors, it does sound like those are just rumors fueled by great on-screen (and on-stage) chemistry. After all, Gagz has had a busy year in the (bad) romance department herself…

Lady GaGa & Christian Carino

Yes, the pop superstar was apparently caught in a bad romance during the end over her two year relationship with talent agent Christian Carino. When the engaged couple announced their split back in February, it was reported without any drama.

But soon enough, the drama came to light. According to an Us Weekly source, Carino “didn’t treat Gaga very well toward the end of their relationship.” A second insider said the singer was the one who ended things with her man because he wouldn’t stop texting (read: telephoning) her.

The source told Us:

“He was jealous. He was trying to find her all the time and texted her a lot. Her friends didn’t like him either.”

The alleged post-breakup telephoning got so intense, the Oscar-winner reportedly had to tell her former finance “not to contact her” at all!

The duo, who were first reported to be dating in early 2017, kept tight lipped about their engagement, but the singer publicly confirmed the news during a speech in October 2018. While they made a few joint appearances during the A Star Is Born press circuit in the months leading up to their split, they went their separate ways before the Oscars, and GaGa attended the awards show solo.

Months later, the star was linked to audio engineer hunk Daniel Horton, with whom she worked with on her Las Vegas residency. But GaGa revealed in November that she was “single,” seemingly confirming the two had since split.

Camila Cabello & Matthew Hussey

Camila Cabello’s most notable romance of 2019 was with Shawn Mendes, but let’s not forget: the first half of the year, she was still in a fling with her relationship coach boyfriend, Matthew Hussey!

According to reports, the Havana singer and the British native called it quits in early July — mere weeks before she dropped Señorita, her latest steamy duet with Shawn.

The 22-year-old performer and 32-year-old love guru reportedly got together in February 2018 after meeting on the set of Today. They made their relationship red carpet official the following February when they attended Vanity Fair’s Oscars after-party together.

The former Fifth Harmony member previously opened up about her romance with Hussey in the cover story for Marie Claires holiday 2018 issue, telling the mag:

“He’s so similar to me…In person, we’re just weird and silly and stupid together. He makes me the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”

Of course, that was before Camila made things official with Shawn on the Fourth of July the following year. Sorry to Matthew Hussey.

Bella Thorne & Tana Mongeau… and Mod Sun

We might need a diagram to explain this one. Bella Thorne made no shame of her polyamorous relationships with rapper Mod Sun and YouTuber Tana Mongeau when the three were all dating each other — or the two were each dating Bella? (we’re not sure; the details were never clear) — throughout 2018.

But the whole the-more-the-merrier thing didn’t work out, evidently, as both legs of the relationship eventually gave way. After months of social media speculation, the Famous in Love alum confirmed she had split from Mongeau, writing on Twitter:

“Tana and I aren’t together anymore, pls stop asking.”

Jake Paul’s future “wife” later followed up with a tweet of her own, writing:

“i love her forever don’t get that twisted. she changed my life forever. don’t rly wanna talk on it.. there’s no negativity at all.”

Months later, Bella and Mod called it quits at Coachella. Unlike her parting from Tana, however, there did seem to be some negativity between Bella and the aspiring rapperWhile Bella and Mod have seemingly yet to make amends, the actress and Tana remain friends to this day. Bella is now with Italian musician Benjamin Mascolo.

Emma Roberts & Evan Peters

Evan Peters and Emma Roberts broke up

Evan Peters and Emma Roberts had split before over the course of their five-year, on-off relationship, but they reportedly decided to end things once and for all around Valentine’s Day; only a few weeks before the actress was spotted kissing actor Garrett Hedlund in March.

After the lip lock caused a fan panic, sources confirmed the American Horror Story power couple had called off their engagement. The news was bittersweet, as the pair were said to have had quite the tumultuous romance.

The twosome started dating in 2012 after they worked together on the film Adult World. They faced their first scandal a year into their relationship when Roberts was arrested and quickly released on domestic abuse charges as a result of a “heated argument” she had with Peters that left him with a bloody nose.

The actress’ rep called the ordeal “an unfortunate incident and misunderstanding,” stating:

“Ms. Roberts was released after questioning and the couple are working together to move past it.”

Moving past that incident would include a proposal: Peters went on to pop the question to Roberts with a pink and gold diamond ring just before the new year. They ended up calling off their engagement in June 2015, but were spotted together again in November 2016, with the Scream Queens star still wearing her engagement ring.

The couple faced another scandal in 2017 when Emma found herself in the middle of Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen‘s breakup. At the time, sources said Bilson found texts suggesting that Christensen was cheating on her with Roberts, who was his co-star in the film Little Italy.

While Emma and Evan always seemed to find their way back to one another, they called it quits for good in February. A source told Us Weekly in March:

“Emma and Evan were heading for a split and now are just friends. Evan has moved out. It wasn’t a bad breakup.”

Months later, the actress reflected on the breakup in an interview with Cosmo, musing:

“I think that no matter who you are or what you do or wherever in the world you are, anything ending is hard. Losing something is hard.”

While Roberts is said to be “exploring a relationship” with her new man, Peters has moved on with singer Halsey.

Gigi Hadid & Tyler Cameron

While most Bachelor/ette contestants go on to date within the Bachelor Nation circle, Tyler Cameron shocked the world by dating actual celebrity, Gigi Hadid, for a whole two months! Their relationship was quick, but memorable, and started how most do in 2019: with an Instagram follow.

Months after Tyler lost out to Jed Wyatt, he and the supermodel started following each other on the social media site. Mere weeks later — and days after he got drinks with Bachelorette Hannah B. (playas gon’ play!) — Ty flew to New York and was spotted at Soho House with Hadid. Receipts were posted, and fans were shooketh.

After a second date at a bowling alley, Tyler was seen leaving Gigi’s NYC apartment (!!!), and things really picked up from there. The following weeks saw the couple vacationing together in Lake George; Gigi introducing Tyler to her good friend, Serena Williams; sister Bella Hadid following Tyler on Instagram; Tyler accompanying Gigi to her grandmother’s funeral in the Netherlands; and Tyler moving to NYC — 15 minutes away from Gigi.

But it all came crashing down in early October, when a source confirmed to Us Weekly that “Tyler is single” and “no longer together” with the supermodel.

Khloé Kardashian & Tristan Thompson

Unsurprisingly, the breakup of the year goes to Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson.

The news broke on February 19, with a source spilling that the pair weren’t speaking due to reports that the NBA star had cheated on her with Kylie Jenner‘s then-bestie, Jordyn Woods. We may never know what actually happened that fateful night, but we have a few different narratives to go off of.

On KUWTK, family friend Larsa Pippen told the sisters that Jordyn might have been sitting on Tristan’s lap at a party. After Koko set out to learn the “whole truth,” her baby daddy eventually came clean about everything. She said on the episode:

“There was nothing else he could do but confirm it. He answered my questions and I got more details—that everybody left the party and Jordyn stayed, that she was sitting on his lap, they were all over each other, they were handsy, they made out. It’s disgusting. I’ll never understand the depths of his…ugh. I was just hoping for a better outcome for my daughter and myself.”

Woods shared her (different) version of events on Jada Pinkett Smith‘s Red Table Talk, telling the host:

“Never once was I giving him a lap dance, making out with him, sitting all over him. It’s just we’re all together. We’re in a group. Never once did we leave the public area, go to a bedroom, go to a bathroom. We’re all in plain sight. This seems completely crazy to me that anybody says there was a lap dance involved because there was no lap dance involved.”

She admitted the two did kiss, but it was by no means a “make out,” adding:

“I was drunk. I was not tipsy. I was drunk, but I was not beyond the point of recollection. I know where I was. But on the way out, he did kiss me. No passion—no nothing—on the way out. He just kissed me. It was a kiss on the lips, but no tongue kiss, no making out. Nothing. And I don’t think he’s wrong, either, because I allowed myself in that position. And when alcohol’s involved, people make dumb moves or people get caught up in the moment.”

Fallout from the incident was cataclysmic. Jordyn soon saw herself kicked out of the KarJenner circle (and Kylie’s house, where she had been staying), while Tristan spent the remainder of the year trying to win his baby momma back.

Lest we forget, this wasn’t even the first time Thompson was caught cheating on Khlo. In April 2018, just days before the reality star gave birth to their daughter True Thompson, the athlete was spotted kissing another woman in New York City. The Good American mogul defended her decision to stay with Thompson in June, tweeting:

“You have no knowledge of what goes on in our household or the enormous rebuilding this takes to even coexist. I’m proud of my strength. I appreciate your opinion and I hope you hold that same opinion to everyone else who has stayed in situations.”

Although Khloé spent most of the year insisting she wouldn’t take Tristan back this time, it was reported in December that the apparent exes were “100 percent back together,” but were keeping it a “secret because she knows how much everyone would judge her.” But a separate insider soon insisted that the two were very much still broken up — for now, at least.

Which celeb split was the most heartbreaking for YOU??
