A week after Prince's unexpected death, authorities are one step closer to figuring out how the music legend died.
On Thursday, law enforcement told the Associated Press that they are investigating the possibility that the Purple Rain artist suffered an overdose.
As we reported, sources close to the 57-year-old said the musician was prescribed Percocet in 2009 and slowly became addicted.
On April 15 after a performance in Atlanta, the Grammy winner reportedly overdosed on the drug while in flight, prompting the plane to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois. Police are trying to figure out if a doctor was present for this ordeal.
Additionally, officials are investigating what type of drugs were on the plane, and what kind were at his Paisley Park house.
As we wrote on Thursday, police obtained a warrant to search his Minnesota mansion.

While there has been plenty to talk about in the wake of the singer's death, one of the more controversial topics surrounding the death has been the circumstances in which he died and whether or not painkillers were involved.
Before Prince's passing, he was involved in an incident where his plane had to make an emergency landing and the legendary rock star was allegedly treated for a drug overdose. In fact, it was later reported that the Grammy winner OD'd on the painkiller Percocet!

On Sunday, it was revealed that soul singer Billy Paul passed away in his home due to a serious medical condition. He was 81 years old.

While we won't have a lot of the answers until the singer's autopsy results come in, we are still learning a few details about what circumstances may have triggered the 57-year-old's death.
We already know about the report that Prince overdosed on Percocet days before his death, as well as the Grammy winner's alleged drug dealer talking about the rocker's addiction, but now we know another distressing detail about the hours leading up to the icon's passing.
The late singer's brother-in-law, Maurice Phillips, allegedly revealed to fans at Paisley Park:
Though it was simple, Kimmel honored the legendary rock star by mentioning him in his monologue and having his band play Prince songs throughout the show.

On Thursday, the icon's albums The Very Best of Prince, Purple Rain, and The Hits/The B-Sides took the top three spots on iTunes. The musician's hit single Purple Rain is currently at No. 7 on the list of top songs.
Given the outpouring of respect and love for the singer since his untimely passing, we're not surprised to see his music soar to the top of the charts. We have a feeling this will continue to be the trend for days to come.
