The Best Picture mix-up was the subject of every late night monologue on Monday night, but nobody quite captured the emotion of the snafu better than James Corden.
Dressing up as Emma Stone in her Academy Award winning role, the Late Late Show host recreated Mia's audition scene in Damien Chazelle's movie musical to tell a story — and it sure wasn't about her aunt in Paris!
Well, the reason for that is because there were two Best Actress envelopes. One was in Emma Stone's possession, while the other was mistakenly given to Mr. Beatty.
PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accounting firm that oversees the envelopes, now explains that two of their reps, Martha Ruiz and Brian Cullinan, were stationed on both sides of the stage. Both also had their own briefcase containing envelopes of all the winners.
Ruiz handed off the Best Actress envelope when it was time to announce the award, the penultimate of the night, and then immediately following that, when Best Picture was about to be announced, Cullinan also handed off his duplicate of the Best Actress envelope. OOPS!!!
While most of the teams were able to pull together decent routines, there weren't any numbers that particularly wowed us. Be sure to ch-ch-check out the good, the bad, and the downright awful choreographed numbers for yourself (below). Oh, and we'll let you know who got the boot too!
